1) Vapor Barrier and Install Metal Lathe:
Apply a water vapor barrier before installing.
Install a metal lath, using 1" roofing nails every 6".
2) Prepare Scratch Coat:
Cover entire lath surface with ½" thick using type S cement.
Scrape horizontal grooves and allow to dry for at least 24 hrs.
3) Stone Veneer Mix:
Prepare mortar mix with 2 parts sand and 1 part cement,
until paste consistency is obtained.
4) Prep the stones:
Wash the stones, and do a dry layout to plan the placement.
Apply ½" thick mortar layer onto wall and back of stone.
5) Installation:
Stones should be installed corners first, wiggling into place and
holding for 10 seconds, allowing some of mortar to squeeze out.
6) Finishing Joints:
Joints should be filled with grout mix using a grout bag.
Use a pointing tool to push mortar into joints once mortar
mix starts to dry.
7) Clean & Seal:
Remove excess dirt using a water/vinegar mixture within
30 minutes. Use a steel brush to rub cement off the stone
surface. Seal the stone and re-seal as necessary.
