Built-In Fireplace Installation
Built-ininstallationofthisreplaceinvolvesinstallingthereplace
intoaframed-in enclosure.This makesthefront ofthereplace
ushwithawallorthefrontofthereplacewindowushwitha
wall.
Frame in rough opening. Use dimensions shown in Figure 21 for a
conventional rough opening. Use Figure 22 for an elevated instal-
lation.Besure toprovidesupportto thebottomofthe replace.
Besuretoprovidegasline forreplaceandelectricalpowerfor
optionallightassembly.Refer toJunctionBox Wiringsectionon
pages10and11fordetailsonelectricalrequirements.
1. Verifygasandelectricallinesarereadyforreplaceinstalla-
tion.See"GasSupply"page12.See"JunctionBox"pages10
and11.Ifnoelectricalpoweristobeused,placeasolidcover
(provided)overthe junctionbox opening.SeeJunction Box
Wiring section in this manual.
2. Insertreplaceintoenclosure.
3. Levelrebox.
4. Securesixframingbracketswithdrywallscrewstotheframed
openingabovethereplace asshownin Figures 20 to 22.
Topbrackets should beinstalled to support theends of the
non-combustibleboard.Note:Thedrywallscrewsarelocated
inthe instructionenvelope packet. Securethe leftand right
standoffs to the side framing as shown in Figure 20. Secure
thereplaceontheleftandrightthroughtheframingbrack-
ets.
5a. Toinstallthereplacecabinetfaceushwiththewall-board,
securetheframingbracketsatthetopandsidesofthere-
placewitha1/2"setback.Thisallowsyoutousethesupplied
non-combustibleboardabovethereplace.Note:Thistypeof
installationwillallowyoutoapplytile,marble,stoneorother
non-combustiblematerialoverthefaceofthereplacecabi-
net,uptotheangeopening.Note: Decora-
tive fronts do not cover the entire face of the unit.

5b. To install the replace so that non-combustible board is in-
stalledoverthereplacecabinetface(uptotheopeningwin-
dow),securethetopandsideframingbracketsushwiththe
faceofthereplacecabinet.Note:Withthisoptionadditional
non-combustiblematerialswillbeneededtoextendoverthe
face of thereplace cabinet, above and beside the anged
opening.Non-combustibleboardhasbeensentwiththeunit.
Attach these pieces to the face of the unit with high tempera-
ture silicone adhesive or with screws. If putting screws into
the face of the unit, avoid the area around the outer glass.
See Figure 18a.
FIREPLACE INSTALLATION
Notice for Finishing Materials
The wall above the replace will become hot. Install the non-
combustible board supplied with the replace before adding
paint,tileorstone.Attachtileorothernon-combustibleproducts
tothereplacefaceandtothenon-combustiblearea(Figures
18a and 18b) using adhesives designed for high-temperature
applications. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for applica-
tionandcuringtimes.Heatfromthereplacemaycauseincor-
rectly installed materials to fail. If you are painting above the
replace,useacoatingdesignedforhightemperatureenviron-
ments and follow the manufacturer's instructions for surface
prep,applicationandcuring.Heatfromthereplacemaycause
incorrectly applied coatings to fail or discolor.
6. Checkgaslinesforleaks.
7. ForVFL(L,Z)48SP90plugpoweradaptertojunctionbox.
8. Placebatteriesinreceiverboxesandremotesusinginstruc-
tions provided. Verify remotes are communicating with receiv-
ers.
9. Install optional liners using their instructions.
10a.ForVF(L,Z)48SP30replaces:Connecttheremotereceiver
to the valve as indicated in the instructions included with the
remote and receiver. Light the pilot (see page 23) and turn the
valveto the "ON"position. Set "Hi" or"Lo" for ameheight
asdesired.Thereplacewillnotlighttheburneruntilthere-
mote's"ON"buttonispressed.
10b.ForVF(L,Z)48SP90replaces,setreceiverfor"remote".See
page 30. Set switch on heat shield to standing pilot or inter-
mediate pilot. See Figure 61. Verify that the heat shield is
backinplace. See Figure 10.
11. Replaceburnercover.See Figure 10.
12. Retrieveshorterglassandinstallonbothsidesofburner.See
Figure 20.
13. Place optional decorative glass or rocks according to their
instruction.
14. Retrieve larger glass panel and install in slots on the left and
rightofreplace.See Figures 34 - 36.
15. Installoptionaldecorativesurroundpanelassembly.Referto
instructionsincludedwiththesurroundpanelkit.
16. Testreplaceusingremoteandshowownerhowtousethe
remote. Show owner lighting instructions in this manual.
17. Installationofbuilt-inreplaceiscomplete.Leavethismanual
with the owner.
