Countertop Care and Maintenance

CARE and MAINTENANCE for GRANITE and MARBLE TOPS
Granite and marble are natural materials; the variations in the minerals make up will affect the
color and appearance from one batch to the another. When sealed and cleaned properly, the
natural stone will maintain its beauty for a very long time.
HANDLE with CARE
Granite is a very heavy material and also very fragile if handled improperly.
Slabs must always be carried / stored vertically, never flat
.
Long pieces should always be handled by two people.
SEALING the TOP
The top is sealed at the factory. Nevertheless, we recommend re-sealing it after installation.
After that, it’s best to seal the top about twice a year with clear granite sealer (granite &
marble sealers are readily available in any hardware store). Before you seal the top,
make sure the top is thoroughly clean and dry.
If your counter is flooded with water and you see two different colors in the top, let it
dry well for a few days. Make sure it is clean, then seal with good granite sealer following
instructions on can.
Please note – sealers will not protect the top from physical or chemical damage.
GRANITE/MARBLE COUNTERTOP MAINTENANCE
Use cleaning agents designed specifically to clean granite or marble. Other detergents may
leave film/residue. Rinse surface well and dry well with soft cloth.
Blot any spills immediately with a paper towel – do not wipe the area as the spill will spread.
Flush several times with water and mild soap, rinse well and dry with a soft cloth.
DO NOT
use acid cleaner (or lemon or vinegar), abrasive scouring materials, bleach or
ammonia cleaners.
