Startfiresonlywithnewspaper,drykindlingandallnaturalororganicfirestarters.Neverstartafire
withgasoline,kerosene,orcharcoalstarter.
Donotburnwetorgreen(unseasoned)logs.
Donotuselogsmadefromwaxandsawdustinyourwoodstove–theyaremadeforopenhearth
fireplaces.Ifyouusemanufacturedlogs,choosethosemadefrom100percentcompressedsawdust.
Buildhotfires.Formostappliances,asmolderingfireisnotasafeorefficientfire.
Keepthedoorsofyourwood‐burningapplianceclosedunlessloadingorstokingthelivefire.Harmful
chemicals,likecarbonmonoxide,canbereleasedintoyourhome.
Regularlyremoveashesfromyourwood‐burningapplianceintoametalcontainerwithacover.Store
