Aswithanymaintenanceconcerningthisunit,besuretheunitis“OFF,”hascompletedthe
Shut‐Downcycle,andiscompletelycoolBEFOREbeginning.
BeawarethatmetalpartsinthefireboxcanremainHOTlongafterthefirehasgoneoutand
EVENaftertheShut‐Downcycleiscomplete.Alwaysuseextremecautionwhenhandling
potentiallyhotstoveparts,evenifyouthinktheyshouldbecold.
Yearly(orendofseason)maintenanceshouldincludethestepslistedinthissectionASWELLAS
thestepslistedinthe“DailyMaintenance,”“Bi‐weeklyMaintenance,”and
“Monthly
Maintenance”sectionsofthismanual.
Yearlymaintenanceshouldbeperformedattheendoftheburningseason.Leavingashand
otherbuild‐upinthestoveduringthenon‐heatingmonthscanleadtoprematuremetal
degradationinthestoveandventingsystem.Usingextraattentiontodetailandbeingcertain
tobeverythoroughintheendofseasoncleaningwillhelpincreasetheoperatinglifeofthe
stoveandventingsystem.

SOOTANDFLYASH:FORMATIONANDNEEDFORREMOVAL
Theproductsofcombustionwillcontainsmallparticlesofflyash.Theflyashwillcollectinthe
exhaustventingsystemandrestricttheflowofthefluegases.Incompletecombustion,suchas
thatwhichoccursduringstartup,shutdownorincorrectoperationoftheroomheaterwilllead
tosomesoot
formationwhichwillcollectintheexhaustventingsystem.Theexhaustventing
systemshouldbeinspectedatleastonceeveryyeartodetermineifcleaningisnecessary.
