Choosing an enclosure When choosing a protective enclosure, understanding the principles of operation of the equipment that will be installed, as well as the conditions in which that equipment will operate, is crucial. With this information, precise and accurate identification of the required enclosure parameters is possible. Parameters to be considered include: Material Our Ensto Cubo range includes enclosures made of thermoplastics (ABS and polycarbonate), polyester, and aluminium.
Flammability Flammability is defined as how easily something will burn or ignite, causing fire or combustion. The flammability-related requirements for an enclosure depend on the application for which it is used. Flammability class refers to classification of the ignition- and burning-resistance characteristics of other than metal or ceramic materials. Our enclosures have been tested in terms of flammability by Underwriters Laboratories.
Materials comparison Our product range comprises enclosing solutions made from thermoplastics, polyester and aluminium. Below, we compare the various materials for their individual advantages and disadvantages. Thermoplastics Ensto Cubo thermoplastic enclosures are manufactured in high-quality halogen-free and recyclable polycarbonate or ABS plastics. Although plastic is much lighter than steel, it still has very high impactresistance.
Polyester Glass-reinforced polyester shows superb resistance to even extreme temperatures. It has high corrosionresistance and is very resistant to solvents. Polyester is more expensive than polycarbonate and ABS. Since enclosures made from this material are difficult to machine, we recommend that you let us customize them for you. In work on polyester enclosures, it is important that you use an anti-dust respirator filter.
Degree of protection IP Code (European standard EN 60529) The IP Code consists of the letters IP followed by two digits and an optional letter. The first numeral of the code classifies the degrees of protection provided against the intrusion of solid objects and dust. The second numeral specifies the protection against water. The optional letter may be appended to classify only the level of protection against human access to hazardous components.
Ensto Cubo enclosures in more detail Enclosure covers The enclosure cover can be transparent, so that the status of the equipment inside is easy to monitor. With thermoplastic enclosures, the whole cover is either grey or transparent. Grey covers are available in both ABS and polycarbonate. Transparent covers are available with polycarbonate. Ensto ABS enclosures can be equipped with a polycarbonate window. Modular enclosures come with a hinged window available in either smokegrey or transparent color.

Thermoplastic enclosures Ensto Cubo thermoplastic enclosures are manufactured in high-quality halogenfree and recyclable polycarbonate or ABS plastics. Although plastic is much lighter than steel, it has very high impact-resistance. In addition, any dents or bumps are not as noticeable in plastic as they would be with steel. Both machining and maintenance of our thermoplastic enclosures is easy, and no special tools are needed.

Polyester enclosures The enclosures are made of glass-reinforced polyester and are extremely durable. They can replace stainless steel enclosures in challenging conditions.
