6. Replace the ink ribbon and retransfer film cartridges.
7. Close the printer access door and lock the printer, if necessary.
8. Power on the printer.
9. Print a sample card to verify the quality of printing. Refer to “Print a Test Card” on page 28 for
more information.
Use a Lapping Stick
If the print quality does not improve after using the cleaning swab, clean the printhead using a
lapping stick.
1. Repeat step 1 through step 3 on page 57.
2. Open and remove the lapping stick from its package.
3. Repeat step 5 on page 57 using the lapping stick.
4. Open a new cleaning swab and repeat step 5 again to remove any leftover debris loosened by
the lapping stick from the printhead.
5. Repeat step 6 through step 9 to complete the cleaning process.
HINTS & TIPS
 Avoid touching the heater line of the printhead with your fingers. Contamination due to skin
oils eventually can damage the printhead.
 Avoid touching the heater line of the printhead with any sharp objects that can permanently
damage the printhead.
 Use only the cleaning swab and lapping stick to clean the printhead. Other materials can stick
to the printhead and cause damage.
 Use the lapping stick and each cleaning swab one time only. Discard the materials after you
clean the printhead.
Do not remove the pink lapping paper from the lapping
stick.
