Cable TV/coaxial cable protection
Arre s ters are parti cularly well s u i ted for protecti ng the
coaxi al cables frequently lai d i n CATV networks, a s they
do not d isturb the s y s tem even at h i gh frequenci e s thanks
to thei r low s elf-capaci tance of typ. 0 . 5 to 1pF . The ar-
res ter is contai ned i n the coaxi al protecti on module where
i t is connected between the central conductor and the
s h i eldi ng. It is recommended to ground e i ther the s h i eld-
i ng or the housing of the protecti on module, dependi ng
on the appli cati on ( Fig. 11)
.
AC line protection
Telecommuni cati onsin s tallati ons a s well a s CATV ampli -
f i ers , CB trans m i tters , home entertai nment s y s tems ,
computers and sim i lar equi pment can be expos ed to
voltage s urges conducted v i a the power network. The
combi nati on of a s urge arre s ter and a varistor offers
proven protecti on i n thes e cas e s. The phas e and neutral
conductors are connected to ground potenti al of both
protecti on elements ( Fig. 12) .
EPCOS arre s ters can be u s ed i n S PD ( S urge Protecti ve
Devi ces ), whi ch fulfi ll EN/IEC 61643-11 class I, II or III
requi rements.

In dem Coax-S chutz modul w i rd der Ablei ter z w ischen
z entralem Lei ter und S chi rm ges chaltet. Abhängi g von
der Anwendung empfi ehlt sich d i e Erdung desSchi rms
b z w . des Gehäus e s desSchutz moduls ( Bild 11) .
