About the Software The CD-ROM that came with your camera includes the following software for Windows® and Macintosh®: ◗ A selection of PRINT Image Framer designs for holidays, birthdays, and other special occasions (in addition to the frames already loaded on the camera) ◗ P.I.F. Designer for creating original frames and modifying the included frames ◗ P.I.F.
Optional Accessories Epson offers an AC adapter (B867062) for use with any standard electrical outlet. This is particularly useful when you are printing from the camera. See your on-screen Reference Guide for instructions on using it. Epson also offers a lithium ion battery (B32B818242) that you can carry as a spare in case you need it. Getting Started Before using your camera, you need to follow the instructions in this section to: ◗ Charge the battery with the included battery charger (page 10) ◗ Install the memory card (page 11) ◗ Install the battery (page 12) ◗ Turn on the camera (page 13) ◗ Set the current date and time (page 14) ◗ Install the software on your computer (page 15).
Charging the Battery Be sure to charge the battery before you use it the first time or if you haven’t used it for a long time. Charging takes about two hours. A fully charged battery lets you take approximately 200 photos. 1 Connect the small end of the battery charger power cable to the charger, then plug the power cable into an electrical outlet. 2 Place the battery into the charger. The charge light comes on red. If it doesn’t come on, reinstall the battery in the charger.
Installing the Memory Card Caution: Turn off your camera before installing or removing the memory card. Make sure you insert the card in the correct orientation, or you may damage the camera and card. 1 Make sure the camera is turned off. 2 Turn the camera on its left side. 3 Slide the battery cover until it pops up. 4 Position the card as shown and slide it all the way into the slot until it clicks into place: Notch 5 Press down on the battery cover and slide it back into place.
Removing a Memory Card Note: Your camera won’t store photos and some of its buttons won’t operate without a memory card correctly installed. 1 Make sure the camera is turned off, then slide the battery cover until it pops up. 2 Push in the memory card to release it. The card pops out. 3 Pull out the memory card, then press down on the battery cover and slide it back into place. Installing the Battery 1 Turn the camera on its left side.
4 Press down on the battery cover and slide it back into place. To remove the battery, open the battery cover as described in step 2, then release the white battery catch and take out the battery. Turning Your Camera On and Off Before turning on your camera, remove the protective film sheet covering the LCD screen. ◗ To turn on the camera, press the POWER button on the top. The LCD screen turns on. If the camera is set to a shooting mode, the lens cover opens and the lens pops out.
Setting the Language, Date, and Time When you turn on the camera for the first time, you need to set the language, date, and time. 1 Turn on the camera. 2 If you see the language screen, move the joystick to r to select English, then press the OK button. Move the joystick to u and press the OK button. Then perform steps 5 to 7 to set the date and time. If you don’t see the language screen, turn the Mode dial to SETUP. Then go to step 3. 3 Move the joystick to r to select Setup Menu 2.
Installing the Software To use all of your camera’s special features, install the software on your computer from the camera’s CD-ROM. Windows 1 Insert the CD-ROM in your CD-ROM or DVD drive. The Installer starts automatically. If it doesn’t start, select My Computer and double-click Epson. 2 Read the license agreement, then click Agree. You see this screen: 3 Click Install, then follow the on-screen instructions. If you don’t have Adobe Reader or QuickTime, click Custom instead of Install.
Macintosh 1 Insert the CD-ROM in your CD-ROM or DVD drive. 2 Double-click the Epson CD-ROM icon if necessary, then double-click the Epson icon. 3 Read the license agreement, then click Agree. You see this screen: 4 Click Install. If you don’t have Adobe Reader, click Custom instead of Install. Select Adobe Reader and click Install. 5 Enter your administrator name and password if necessary. You may have to do this more than once. 6 Follow the on-screen instructions to install each program.
Taking and Viewing Photos You can take several different types of photos with your camera and then view them on the LCD screen: ◗ Automatic photos: Use automatically adjusted settings for great snapshots. All you have to do is point and shoot. See page 18. ◗ Manual photos: Fine-tune your shots by adjusting a variety of camera settings, including resolution, exposure compensation, sensitivity, white balance, and more. See page 20.
Taking Photos in Automatic Mode Automatic photography mode lets you capture highresolution images without making complicated settings. You can use the zoom buttons to move in closer to your subject and set the flash for indoor or low-light photos. In automatic mode, images are captured at a resolution and quality setting of (2560 × 1920 pixels). To change these settings, use manual mode (see page 20). Note: You can also use the macro and/or self-timer features in automatic mode.
3 Center your subject in the middle of the square focus frame on the LCD screen. The default flash setting is automatic, indicated by icon on the LCD screen. The flash will go off the automatically whenever necessary. If you want to change the flash setting, move the joystick to r . See page 23 for a list of flash settings. 4 Press and hold the shutter button halfway. The focus frame turns green and the focus is set.
Taking Photos in Manual Mode If you are an advanced photographer, you may want to use manual mode. This allows you to select the quality (resolution), white balance, light sensitivity (ISO Speed), and exposure compensation. You can also select special scene modes for portraits, landscapes, or night photos. Before you start, make sure the batteries are installed and the camera is turned on, as described on page 12. 1 Turn the Mode dial to manual.
4 Center your subject in the middle of the square focus frame on the screen. The default flash setting is automatic, indicated by icon on the LCD screen. The flash will go off the automatically whenever necessary. If you want to change the flash setting, move the joystick to r . Use of the flash is not recommended with continuous shooting, so make sure you have adequate lighting. 1 Turn the Mode dial to continuous shooting. 2 If you want to adjust the resolution or other settings, press the MENU button. See page 22 for a list of available settings or see the Reference Guide. 3 Make sure you are at least 20 inches (50 cm) away from your subject. Note: To turn on digital zoom, see the Reference Guide. ◗ To zoom in on your subject, press the T (telephoto) button.
Recording Videos You can record videos with sound. The length of the video is limited only by the amount of storage available on your memory card. 1 Turn the Mode dial to video. 2 Press the MENU button. You see the Movie Menu. 3 Move the joystick to r to change the Resolution setting. 4 Move the joystick to u or d to select a resolution setting, then press the OK button.
9 Press the shutter button all the way down to start recording. 10 Press the shutter button again to stop recording. Taking Photos With Fun Frames You can use P.I.F. (PRINT Image Framer) to take pictures with a variety of frames for holidays and special occasions. Four frames are already stored in your camera and over 100 more frames are copied to your computer when you install the camera software. You can use the PRINT Image Framer Tool to copy the frames from your computer to your memory card.
To take a picture with a frame: 1 Turn the Mode dial to automatic, manual, or continuous. 2 Press the P.I.F. button. The first frame stored in the camera is displayed. 3 Select the frame you want by moving the joystick to u or d, then press the OK button. The selected frame is displayed on the LCD screen. (If you stored more frames on the memory card, move the joystick to r to move to the memory card frames.) Tip: Most frames are available in both horizontal and vertical designs.
You can now print your framed photo directly from the camera on supported Epson printers; see page 33. Note: You can also add or change a frame on an existing photo. See page 32 for instructions. If you have the Epson Stylus Photo RX500, you can print photos with P.I.F. frames by removing the camera’s memory card, inserting it into the RX500, and printing using the RX500 control panel. See page 33 for details. To turn off P.I.F for your next photos, press the button again. P.I.F.
2 To view up to 12 photos at once, press the W button (press it repeatedly if you’ve zoomed in). ◗ To select a photo, move the joystick to u, d, l, or r. ◗ To view the selected photo on the full screen, press the T or OK button. Viewing a Slide Show 1 Turn the Mode dial to playback. The last photo you took is displayed. 2 Press the MENU button. 3 Select Slide Show by moving the joystick to d, then press the OK button. The slide show plays. ◗ To pause the slide show, press the OK button.
Deleting Photos You can easily delete photos one at a time, delete all the photos in the camera, or delete a group of continuous photos. Deleting Photos One at a Time 1 Turn the Mode dial to playback. 2 To delete the currently displayed photo, move the joystick to d . 3 Select OK by moving the joystick to u, then press the OK button. The photo is deleted. 4 To delete another photo, move the joystick to l or r to select the photo and repeat step 2.
Deleting a Group of Continuous Photos 1 Turn the Mode dial to playback. 2 Move the joystick to l or r to display one of a group of continuous photos. 3 Press the MENU button. Playback Menu 1 is displayed. 4 Select Delete Group by moving the joystick to d, and then to r. The continuous photo deletion screen appears. 5 To delete the entire group of continuous photos, press the OK button. 6 To retain a continuous photo in the group, move the joystick to l or r to display the photo.
Adding, Changing, or Removing Frames You can add, change, or remove a P.I.F. frame on an existing photo using the frames stored in your camera. (See page 26 for more information about P.I.F.) 1 Turn the Mode dial to playback. 2 Select the photo on which you want to add, change, or remove a frame by moving the joystick to l or r. 3 Press the P.I.F. button. You see the first frame stored in the camera or on your memory card.
Printing Your Photos You can print your photos directly from the camera to supported Epson printers using Epson Premium Glossy Photo Paper, Premium Semigloss Photo Paper, or PictureMate Photo Paper (with PictureMate only) in 4 × 6 inch, A4, or Letter sizes (if available). You can include the date, print with or without borders, print several photos on one sheet of paper, and print photos with P.I.F. frames. (You cannot print photos with P.I.F. frames from your computer.
Connecting the Camera to Your Printer Use the USB Type A cable that comes with your camera to connect it to your printer. Make sure the camera is turned off before you begin. USB cable You can conserve battery power by using the optional AC adapter when you print from the camera. See the Reference Guide on your computer for instructions. 1 Connect the large end of the USB cable to the correct EXT I/F port on your printer.
Printing Photos You can print all the photos in the camera or select the ones you want to print. Images with P.I.F. frames must be printed directly from the camera on a supported Epson printer; see page 33 for a list of supported printers. Before you start, make sure your printer is set up and has ink installed. Load Epson Premium Glossy Photo Paper, Premium Semigloss Photo Paper, or PictureMate Photo Paper (with PictureMate only) in 4 × 6 inch, A4, or Letter size (if available).
7 Move the joystick to d to select Print Settings, then press the OK button. 8 Move the joystick to r to select Paper Type, then move it to d to select the paper size you loaded and press OK. To print a photo with white borders, turn off the date stamp, or change other settings, see page 40. 9 Press the MENU button to return to the print screen. 10 Press the print button to start printing. When printing is complete, press the OK button. Note: If you need to cancel printing, press the MENU button.
To print more than one copy, press the OK button and move the joystick to u to select the number of copies you want. Then press the OK button. 6 Move the joystick to d to select Print Settings, then press the OK button. 7 Move the joystick to r to select Paper Type, then move it to d to select the paper size you loaded and press OK. To print your photos with white borders, turn off the date stamp, or change other settings, see page 40. 8 Press the MENU button to return to the print screen.
5 Select the photos to print by moving the joystick to l or r, then select the number of copies by moving the joystick to u or d. 6 Press the print button. 7 Move the joystick to d to select Print Settings, then press the OK button. 8 Press the OK button or move the joystick to r to select Paper Type. Then move it to u or d to select the paper size you loaded and press OK. To print your photos with white borders, turn off the date stamp, or change other settings, see page 40.
3 Move the joystick to l or r to display the first photo you want to print. 4 Press the print button. You see the print menu. 5 Select Print an Album by moving the joystick to d. 6 Select the number of photos per page by moving the joystick to l or r, then press the OK button. The number of photos per page also selects the photos that will print.
Making Print Settings You can make the following settings when printing images directly from the camera: ◗ Paper size selection ◗ Printing with or without white borders ◗ Printing the date (not available with frames or album printing) ◗ Printing with normal or high quality Note: Once you change the paper size setting, the camera retains it. 10 × 15 cm paper is not available in the U.S.
Solving Problems Before you call for help, check this list of common problems and solutions and the Reference Guide. Camera Problems The camera has no power. ◗ The camera may have shut off automatically to save power. Press the POWER button to turn on the camera. Also make sure the Mode dial is turned completely to a mode. ◗ Make sure the battery has power and is correctly installed. See page 10 and page 12 for instructions. The camera does not take a photo after you press the shutter button.
The camera does not react when you press the buttons. ◗ If the light on the front of the camera is flashing, try turning the camera off and then on again. ◗ If the power does not turn off, remove the battery, reinstall it, and turn the power on. Also make sure the memory card is installed correctly. The camera takes too long to take a photo. If you press the shutter button all the way down, the camera has to focus and set the exposure before the shutter releases.
Nothing appears on the LCD screen. ◗ The camera may have shut off automatically to save power. Press the POWER button to turn it back on. Also make sure the mode dial is turned completely to a mode. ◗ When the camera is connected to a computer, the LCD screen is disabled. When it is connected to a printer, press any button to display the print progress screen. After a moment, it disappears again. Image Problems Images are out of focus.
Images are too dark (underexposed) or too bright (overexposed). ◗ Make sure the flash is not set to flash off. However, if you are shooting a close-up in macro mode, you should try using the flash off setting. ◗ If you are using the flash, make sure you are the right distance from your subject: between 2.3 and 17.1 feet (in wide-angle mode) and 1.6 to 9.9 feet (in telephoto mode). See the Reference Guide for details.
The wrong date and/or time is printed. Turn the Mode dial to SETUP, then move the joystick to r to select Setup Menu 2. Move the joystick to d to select Date/Time, then move it to r to adjust the settings. You see an error message when you try to open the Reference Guide. Install Adobe Reader from the CD-ROM that came with the camera. See page 15 for instructions. List of Error Messages The following list includes the most common error messages you may see on the LCD screen.
Error message Description Not enough free space on the memory card. Make room by deleting photos or downloading them to your computer and deleting them. See page 30 for instructions. This frame cannot be used with this camera. The file size of the frame exceeds the camera’s limit. Use the PIF Designer software to simplify the frame. This image cannot be displayed. Images from another camera or other source may not display on your camera. Printer error.

Although this product is designed to be sturdy, rough handling can damage it. Never spill liquid onto this product. If this product emits unusual noises, odors, or smoke, cancel the current operation and turn it off immediately.
