Press to move the print head to its home position. When the ink light is off, press and hold for at least 3 seconds to clean the print head. Press to load or eject paper. Control Panel Lights Light Description On when the printer is on. Flashes when the printer is receiving data, printing, charging ink, or cleaning the print head. On when the ink level of one or more ink tanks may have reached the lower line. Flashes when the ink level of one or more ink tanks may be low. You may continue printing until the ink level reaches the lower line. On when the printer is out of paper or the CD/DVD tray is not loaded corretly.
Load Paper Before you print, load paper for the type of printing you will do. Load Paper for Documents or Photos Load Envelopes General Paper Information Load Paper for Documents or Photos You can print documents and photos on a variety of paper types and sizes. 1. Open the paper support, then pull up the extension. 2. Open the front cover, then extend the output tray. 3. Squeeze the tab on the edge guide and slide it to the left.
4. Insert paper, glossy or printable side up and short edge first, against the right side of the sheet feeder and place it behind the tabs on the edge guides. If you are inserting a stack of paper, fan the sheets first and tap the stack on a flat surface to even the edges. Letter- or A4-size Smaller paper 5. Slide the edge guide against the paper, but not too tightly.
Tip: Load only the recommended number of sheets. Load paper short edge first, no matter which way your document or photo faces. Load letterhead or pre-printed paper top edge first. Do not load paper above the arrow marks on the edge guide. Check the paper package for any additional loading instructions. Leave enough space in front of the printer for the paper to be fully ejected. Load Envelopes You can print on plain paper envelopes in 4 1/8 × 9 1/2 inch (#10) (105 × 241 mm) size. 1.
2. Open the front cover, then extend the output tray. 3. Squeeze the tab on the edge guide and slide it to the left.
4. Load up to 10 envelopes against the right side. Load them printable side up and flap edge left and behind the tabs on the edge guides. Tip: Press each envelope flat before loading it or load one envelope at a time. 5. Slide the edge guide against the envelopes, but not too tightly. Tip: Do not use envelopes that are curled or folded, and avoid using envelopes that are too thin because they may curl during printing.

Print From Your Computer After you connect the printer to your computer and install its software, you can print documents and photos from your computer. Follow the instructions in these sections to print documents and photos: Windows Printing Mac OS X Printing To print on CDs/DVDs, follow the steps in Print on a CD or DVD. Before you print, make sure you installed your software and connected the printer to your computer; see the Start Here sheet for instructions.
2. Select EPSON L800 Series. 3. Click Properties or Preferences. Note: If you don’t see these buttons, click Setup, Printer, or Options, then click Properties or Preferences on the next screen.
Follow the steps in these sections to select settings, print, and control printing: Select Basic Options Change Print Layout Select Advanced Options Print Your Document or Photo Check Printing Status Change Default Print Settings Select Basic Options There are two ways to select basic printing options: • Select a printing preset to quickly select settings for common paper types, sizes, and print qualities. • Select individual settings on the Main tab.
If the settings are correct for your print job, click the preset and print. To create your own presets, click on the Advanced tab, select your settings, and then click on the Save Settings button. To delete a preset you created, click Add/Remove on the Shortcuts tab, select the preset, and click Delete. Select Basic Settings on the Main Tab Click the Main tab at the top of the printer settings window to select your basic print options.
Tip: For information about an option, move the mouse over the setting or right-click it to access the Help utility. Note: When printing borderless photos, part of the image will be cropped because this option enlarges the image slightly beyond the paper size. Adjust the image to the size of the paper and set the margins in your application to zero. 1. Select a Source option (if you are printing on paper, select Sheet). 2.
Note: Fix Photo uses a sophisticated face recognition technology to optimize photos that include faces. For this to work, both eyes and the nose must be visible in the subject’s face. If your photo includes a face with an intentional color cast, such as a statue, you may want to turn off Fix Photo to retain the special color effects. 7. Choose Portrait or Landscape orientation for your document or photo. (Choose Landscape for printing envelopes.
• To size your printed document or photo, click the Reduce/Enlarge Document checkbox and select sizing options. • To print on both sides of your paper, select On for 2-sided printing and adjust the margins or select Folded Booklet as necessary. • To print multiple pages on one sheet, or one image across multiple sheets, click the MultiPage checkbox and select the multi-page options you want for your document.
1. Select the paper type setting that matches the paper you loaded. 2. Select the print quality setting for your document or photo, such as Fast Economy for the fastest printing or Photo or Photo RPM for the best print quality. Note: Available print quality settings depend on the selected paper type setting. 3. Select the paper size setting for the paper you loaded. A User Defined option is also available so you can create a custom size. 4. If you’re printing borderless photos, select Borderless.
• Select different print layout settings • Select basic printing options When you’re finished, you’re ready to print. Print Your Document or Photo After selecting your print settings, click OK to save them and return to the Print window. Click OK or Print to start printing. During printing, you can check printing status. Check Printing Status During printing, you see this window showing the progress of your print job. It allows you to control printing and check ink levels.
To check ink status, click Check Ink Levels. If you see an error during printing, see Solve Problems for solutions. Note: You can also cancel printing by pressing the printer’s paper button. Change Default Print Settings When you change your print settings from within a program, the changes apply only while you’re printing at that time. If you want to select different settings to use in all your Windows programs, you can change the default print settings. 1. Right-click the printer icon in the taskbar.
3. Select the language you want to display. 4. Click OK to close the driver screen. The language used on the driver screen changes to your selection the next time you access it. Mac OS X Printing You can print using any Mac OS X printing program.
• Starting a printing program and opening a document or photo from it. • Double-clicking a document or photo file icon on the screen. When you’re ready to print, select print options and then print. Select Basic Print Options After opening your file for printing, open the print window to select your print options. 1. Open the File menu and select Print. 2. Select the name of your EPSON product as the Printer setting. 3. If necessary, click the Show Details button or the expand the print window.
These settings appear on the screen: 7. Select the Media Type setting that matches the paper you loaded. 8. Select a Print Quality for your document or photo. Available settings depend on the selected Media Type setting.
• Select different print layout settings • Manage colors When you’re finished, you’re ready to print. Select Page Setup Options Depending on your application, you may be able to select the paper size and orientation settings, and adjust the size of your printed document or photo, from the print window. Note: If you don’t see these settings in the print window, check for them in your application before printing.
To print multiple pages on one sheet, select 2, 4, 6, 9, or 16 in the Pages per Sheet pop-up menu. Select the order in which the multiple pages print on the sheet as the Layout Direction setting. To print borders around each page, select one of the line settings in the Border pop-up menu. You can also flip the direction of your image by selecting Reverse page orientation or Flip horizontally.
Manual Settings lets you select manual color adjustments. Click the arrow next to Advanced Settings and select settings for Brightness, Contrast, Saturation, and individual color tones. You can also select a color Mode setting for printing photos and graphics and the Fix Red-Eye setting to reduce or remove red-eye in photos. If you select the Adobe RGB color mode, you can also adjust the midtone density using the Gamma setting. Fix Photo to improves the color, contrast, and sharpness of flawed photos.
2. Select from these options: • To cancel printing, click the print job and click Delete. • To pause printing for a specific print job, click the print job and click Hold. To resume printing, click the print job marked “Hold” and click Resume. • To pause printing for all print jobs, click Pause Printer. • To check ink status, click Supply Levels. Note: You can also cancel printing by pressing the printer’s paper button. 3. When you’re finished, close the window to exit the program.
5. Select the following options: • Thick paper and envelopes prevents ink from smearing when you print on envelopes or other thick paper. • Skip Blank Page to ensure that pages without text or images are not printed • Quiet Mode for quieter printing when Plain Paper/Bright White Paper is selected as the Media Type • High Speed Printing for faster printing; print quality is reduced.
Print On a CD or DVD You can use your product to print a design right onto ink jet-printable CDs or DVDs to create a custom label. You can do this using the EPSON Print CD software that came with your product. Follow the steps in these sections to: Guidelines for Printing on CDs and DVDs Load a CD/DVD Print a CD/DVD From Your Computer Note: If you’re using discs where the printable area extends to within 0.
• Test print on a spare CD/DVD and check the printed surface after waiting for one full day, especially before printing a large number of CDs/DVDs. • If the printed surface is sticky even after it has dried, the color saturation may be too high. If this occurs, adjust the level of color correction from the Print screen in EPSON Print CD. • If the print position is misaligned, adjust it using EPSON Print CD.
Note: If you’re using discs where the printable area extends to within 0.16 inch (4 mm) of the edge of the center hole, you may need to adjust the inner diameter setting in the File menu of the EPSON Print CD software. Before printing on a CD/DVD, it is necessary to clean the roller inside the printer by feeding and ejecting Letter- or A4-size paper. Load plain paper and press the paper button to feed and eject paper several times. 1.
6. Place the disc on the CD/DVD tray with the white or printable side face-up. Make sure the disc lies flat in the tray. To print on a small disc (8-cm), place the small CD/DVD adapter on the tray first, then place the disc inside the adapter. CD/DVD adapter 12-cm CD/DVD 8-cm CD/DVD Caution: Before positioning the CD/DVD, make sure that no foreign particles or substances are on the CD/DVD tray, as these may damage the CD/DVD’s data side. Be sure to use the CD/DVD tray provided with this printer.
Now you can print on the CD/DVD using the EPSON Print CD software on your computer. After printing, remove the printed CD/DVD. Print a CD/DVD From Your Computer If you installed the EPSON Print CD software when you installed your product software, you can use it to create designs and print on CDs/DVDs.
3. Select the image you want to use. • Click the File tab. • Click Browse, select the folder where your image is located, and click OK. • Select the image you want to use and click OK to use the image as is. • To adjust the image, select the options on the right side of the window. 4. Click OK to close the Select Background window. 5. To make additional adjustments, click the Background button again. • 38 Click the Image Adjustment button and tab.
• Adjust any of the necessary settings and click OK. 6. Click OK to close the Select Background window. 7. To add text, click the Text button. • Enter your text in the Text box. • Select the font, size, and other text effects by accessing them through the Text Settings, Text Color, and other tabs. Note: For more details on EPSON Print CD options, click Help. 8. Click OK to close the Text Settings window. 9. When you’re finished, open the File menu, select Save, and save your design file.
Mac OS X 1. Select Applications > EPSON Software > Print CD. 2. To select an image to use in the background, click the • 40 Click Select Background. background icon.
• Select your image folder, select your image, and click Open. • Click OK to use the image as is. • To adjust the image, select the options on the right side of the window. 3. To further adjust the image, use the tools and sliders in the Adjust Background window. Then click OK. 4. To add text, click the text button. • Enter your text in the Text Settings box. • Select the font, size, and other text effects in the options below or on the Distort Text tab.

If you need to adjust the print position or print quality, see: Adjust Print Position Adjust Print Quality Adjust Print Position If your printed design is not positioned on your disc correctly, you can adjust the print position using an extra CD/DVD.
1. Load the CD/DVD. 2. Print an adjustment pattern and adjust the position as instructed for your computer: Windows Adjustment Mac OS X Adjustment When you’re finished, you can burn another CD or DVD and print your design again. Windows Adjustment 1. Open EPSON Print CD. 2. Open the File menu and select Print. 3. Select your EPSON printer as the Printer setting, if necessary. 4. Click Print Position Confirmation Pattern. 5. Click Print. 6. Remove the disc after printing. 7.
9. Click Enter Values, then select the distance for Top in the Height (Top) box and the distance for Right in the Width (Right) box. 10. Click OK. Now you can burn another CD or DVD and print your design again. Mac OS X Adjustment 1. Open EPSON Print CD. 2. Open the File menu and select Print. 3. Make sure your EPSON printer is selected. 4. Click Print Position Check Pattern.
5. Click Print. 6. Remove the disc after printing. 7. Using a metric ruler, measure the distance from the hole to the cross marks labeled Top and Right. 8. Click Position Adjustment. 9. Click Value Entry, then select the distance for Top into the Top Space box and the distance for Right in the Right Space box. 10. Click OK.
Now you can burn another CD or DVD and print your design again. Adjust Print Quality If ink smears on your disc design, you can adjust the color saturation and ink density using an extra CD/DVD. This may be necessary to make sure your designs look their best on the particular brand of discs you’re using. 1. Load the CD/DVD into the product. 2.
11. Click Print Density Confirmation Pattern, then click Second or Third to print additional patterns using different settings. 12. Click Print to print a new pattern in another position on the same CD/DVD. 13. Examine the CD/DVD again and, if necessary, adjust the settings and print again. 14. Let the disc dry for at least 24 hours and check the results. If necessary, adjust the density again. Now you can burn another CD or DVD and print your design on it. Mac OS X Adjustment 1. Open EPSON Print CD. 2.
Refill Ink You can refill an ink tank when the ink alert message appear on your computer screen and the ink level is below the lower line on the ink tank. You can monitor the approximate ink levels from your computer and view on-screen instructions for refilling ink. Your product and its software will let you know when an ink tank may be low or needs to be refilled. If ink is low but the ink level is above the lower line on the ink tank, the ink light may flash.
The progress meter appears automatically when you start a print job. You can check the approximate ink levels from this window.
Select Do not display this message again and click Decline to disable online offers. Promotional offers are not valid in Latin America. If you cannot check the ink levels from the printer driver, make sure that the Disable EPSON Status Monitor 3 checkbox is not selected by clicking the Speed & Progress button on the Maintenance window of the printer driver. If it is selected, you cannot check the ink levels and refill ink. Mac OS X 1. In the Apple menu or the Dock, select System Preferences. Mac OS X 10.
Purchase EPSON Ink Bottles You can purchase genuine EPSON ink and paper from an EPSON authorized reseller. To find the nearest one, contact Epson. Use these part numbers when you purchase new ink bottles and use the ink by the date printed on the package: Ink color Part number Black T6731 Cyan T6732 Magenta T6733 Yellow T6734 Light Cyan T6735 Light Magenta T6736 Note: Ink yields vary considerably based on images printed, print settings, paper type, frequency of use, and temperature.
Precautions on Refilling Ink • We recommend the use of genuine EPSON ink bottles. Epson cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of non-genuine ink. The use of other products may affect your print quality could result in printer damage. • Other products not manufactured by Epson may cause damage that is not covered by Epson’s warranties and under certain circumstances may cause erratic printer behavior. • Keep ink bottles out of the reach of children.
You can monitor the approximate ink levels from your computer and view on-screen instructions to refill the ink. You must use the printer driver to refill the ink. Click the How to button in the EPSON Status Monitor window and follow the on-screen instructions, or follow the instructions below to refill ink. Warning: Keep the ink bottles out the reach of children and don’t drink the ink. Caution: For best printing results, use up the ink bottle before the date printed on the package.
1 2 Caution: Do not pull the ink tubes. 3. Open the ink tank unit cover, and then remove the ink tank cap. 2 1 Note: Be careful not to spill any ink. Make sure that the color of the ink tank matches the ink color that you want to refill. 4. Snap off the tip of the bottle cap, remove the cap of the ink bottle, remove the seal from the bottle, and then install the cap.
Note: Do not throw away the tip of the bottle cap. If any ink remains in the ink bottle after refilling the tank, use the top of the cap to seal the ink bottle cap. 5. Refill the ink tank with the correct colored ink up to the upper line on the ink tank. Note: If any ink remains in the ink bottle after filling the ink tank up to the upper line, install the cap securely and store the ink bottle upright for later use. 6. Install the cap onto the ink tank securely and then close the ink tank unit cover.

Hook the ink tank unit onto the printer. 2 1 Caution: Make sure the transportation lock is set to the printing position when using the printer, or ink will not be delivered and you may experience print quality problems. When transporting the printer, set the transportation lock to the transport position or ink may leak. 8. Confirm the ID that is indicated on the ink bottle, and then follow the on-screen instructions to enter the ID and complete the refilling procedure.
Adjust Print Quality If your print quality declines, you may need to run a utility to clean or align the print head. Clean the Print Head Align the Print Head If you see ink on the back of a printout, you may need to clean the paper guide. Clean the Print Head If your printouts become too light, dots are missing, or you see dark or light bands across them, you may need to clean the print head nozzles. Cleaning uses ink, so clean the nozzles only if print quality declines.
5. Check the printed pattern to see if there are gaps in the lines. Nozzles are clean Nozzles need cleaning 6. If there are no gaps, the print head is clean and you can continue printing. If there are gaps or the pattern is faint, clean the print head. From the Computer 1. Make sure that no lights are indicating errors, that the CD/DVD tray is not inserted in the printer, and that the output tray is in the paper position. 2. Load a few sheets of plain paper in the sheet feeder. 3.
4. Select Nozzle Check. 5. You see one of these windows: 6. Click Print. 7. Check the printed pattern to see if there are gaps in the lines. Nozzles are clean Nozzles need cleaning 8. If there are no gaps, click Finish. If there are gaps or the pattern is faint, clean the print head. Clean the Print Head Nozzles If print quality has declined and the nozzle check pattern indicates clogged nozzles, you can clean the print head.
Using the Printer Buttons 1. Make sure that no lights are indicating errors, that the CD/DVD tray is not inserted in the printer, and that the output tray is in the paper position. 2. Load a few sheets of plain paper in the sheet feeder. 3. Hold down the ink button for at least 3 seconds to start the cleaning cycle. The power light flashes throughout the cleaning cycle and stays on green when the cleaning cycle is finished. Caution: Never turn off the printer during a cleaning cycle or you may damage it.
5. Click Start to begin the cleaning cycle, which lasts around 1 minute. The power light flashes throughout the cleaning cycle and stays on green when the cycle is finished. Caution: Never turn off the printer during a cleaning cycle. 6. When the power light stops flashing and remains on, you can check to see if the nozzles are clean; click Print Nozzle Check Pattern and click Print. 7. Check the printed pattern to see if there are gaps in the lines. Nozzles are clean Nozzles need cleaning 8.
Note: Power cleaning consumes more ink than normal cleaning. If you perform power cleaning when the remaining ink in the tank is low, the print quality may not improve completely. If the alert screen appears on the computer’s screen, you have to click the Continue button and then run the power cleaning utility again, or refill the ink and then run the power cleaning utility again. If print quality does not improve, contact Epson. To maintain print quality, print a few pages on a regular basis.
If no patterns are aligned in one or more of the sets, choose the closest one in each set and click Realignment. Then print another alignment sheet and check it. 7. When you’re done, click Finish. Clean the Paper Guide If you see ink on the back of a printout, you can clean the paper guide to remove any excess ink. 1. Make sure that no lights are indicating errors, that the CD/DVD tray is not inserted in the printer, and that the output tray is in the paper position. 2.

Check the Lights on Your Printer Lights Problem and solution Paper out No paper is loaded. Load paper into the sheet feeder, and then press the paper button. The printer resumes printing and the light goes out. CD/DVD tray error When printing on a CD or DVD, the CD/DVD tray is not inserted. Insert the CD/DVD tray in the printer and press the paper button. Multiple feed error The printer has fed more than one sheet of paper at a time. Make sure you set the output tray to the paper position.
Ink level is low Ink level may be low. You may continue printing. To confirm the actual ink remaining, visually check the ink levels in the printer’s ink tanks. Epson recommends that you continue using the printer until the ink level reaches the lower line so that the ink tank can be refilled with the entire contents of a new ink bottle. Cover open The printer cover is open. Close the printer cover. Output tray error The output tray is not in the correct position.
3. Load plain paper in the sheet feeder and make sure that the CD/DVD tray is not inserted in the printer. 4. Hold down the paper button as you press the power button to turn the printer back on. Hold down both buttons until the printer turns on, then release both buttons. 5. The printer begins printing the nozzle check pattern. • If the page prints, the printer is operating properly. Your problem may be caused by your computer, cable, software, or settings.
Setup Problems Noise After Ink Installation Software Installation Problems Noise After Ink Installation • The first time you fill the ink tanks, the product must charge its print head for about 20 minutes. Wait until charging finishes (the power light stops flashing) before you turn off the printer, or it may charge improperly and use excess ink the next time you turn it on. • If the printer stops moving or making noise, but the power light is still flashing after 5 minutes, turn off the printer.
• If multiple pages feed at once, remove the paper from the sheet feeder, fan the edges to separate the sheets, then reload it. • If paper is jamming when you are inserting only one or two sheets, try loading more pages at a time. However, do not load more than the recommended number of sheets. • If you’re printing on both sides of the paper, try loading fewer sheets. • Use new, smooth, high-quality paper that is not curled, creased, old, or too thin. Make sure to load it printable side up.
4. If you cancelled the print job, relaunch it. Note: The product won’t operate properly if it’s tilted or at an angle. Place it on a flat, stable surface that extends beyond the base in all directions. Paper Does Not Eject or Ejects Wrinkled • If the paper doesn’t eject fully, you may have set the wrong paper size. Press the paper button, then open the printer cover and remove the paper. Select the correct paper size when you reprint.
Windows 7: Click and select Devices and Printers. Then right-click EPSON L800 Series, select See what’s printing, right-click the stalled print job, and click Cancel and then Yes. Windows Vista: Click , select Control Panel, and click Printer under Hardware and Sound. Then rightclick EPSON L800 Series, select Open, right-click the stalled print job, and click Cancel and then Yes. Windows XP: Click Start and select Printers and Faxes.
For the fastest printing, try these tips: • Choose the Black/Grayscale or Grayscale option in your printer settings if your document doesn’t include color. • Choose Draft or Text for the print quality. • Turn on the high speed setting in the Windows or Mac OS X printer software. • If Plain Paper/Bright White Paper is selected as the paper type, choose Economy or Fast Economy for the print quality. • Make sure the paper Type or Media Type setting matches the paper you loaded.

In most cases, you do not need to uninstall your product software before re-installing it. Clean and Transport Your Product If your printer gets dirty or you need to move it some distance, follow the instructions in these sections: Cleaning Transportation Cleaning To keep the printer working at its best, you should clean it several times a year. Caution: Do not use a hard brush, benzene, alcohol, or paint thinner to clean the printer or you may damage it. Do not use oil or other lubricants inside the printer or let water get inside it.
5. Open the printer cover, then secure the print head with tape, as shown below. 6. Close the front cover, then close the paper support. 7. Set the transportation lock to the transport position. 8. Pack the printer in its original box or one of a similar size using protective material to keep it from moving inside the box. Keep the printer level during transportation. Use Your Product on a Network To use your printer over a small computer network, you need to install your printer software on the networked computer as necessary, and set up network printing. Note: If you want to print over a large network, consult your network administrator for setup instructions.

If ink gets on your skin, wash the area thoroughly with soap and water. If ink gets into your eyes, flush them immediately with water.
