To install the ribbon cartridge, remove it from its packaging and then follow these steps: 1. Open the printer cover by gently lifting up the notch on its left side. Then snap the cartridge into place so that the tabs on both sides of the cartridge fit into the notches in the cartridge holder. A52 5. Turn the ribbon-tightening knob again to remove any slack in the ribbon and to make sure the ribbon moves freely. A53 6. 1-8 Close the printer cover.

Make sure the printer is turned off. The printer is off when the top of the Operate button is flush with the raised tabs on either side of the button. 2. Check the label on the back of the printer to make sure its voltage matches that of your electrical outlet.
L Adonis Rev.E A5 size 96/12/19 Chapter 1 pass 0 Connecting the Printer to Your Computer To connect your computer to your printer’s built-in parallel interface, you need a shielded, twisted-pair parallel cable with a D-SUB, 25-pin, male connector for your computer and a 36-pin Centronics® compatible connector for the printer. If your computer requires a different type of printer interface, you should be able to use one of the optional interfaces described on page 5-19.

A printer driver is software that allows your computer to control the printer. You need to install the printer driver so your software applications can take full advantage of the printer’s capabilities.

You see the New Hardware Found screen. R 2 Note: If you do not see the New Hardware Found screen, follow the instructions under “Installing the printer driver using My Computer” on page 2-4. 5. Make sure the screen displays your printer model name.

Make sure Windows 95 is running. 2. Double-click the My Computer icon. 3. Click Printers. 4. Double-click the Add Printer icon. You see the Add Printer Wizard screen. fig2 2-4 5. Click the Next button. 6. Select the local or network printer setting; then click Next.

Select the Yes or No radio button to indicate whether you want to use the printer as the default printer for Windows 95 applications. 13. Click Finish. The program copies the files to your hard disk and adds an icon to the Printers folder using the printer model name or the name you selected.

The access method explained below is typical for many Windows applications, but the way you access your printer driver may differ depending on your application. When you are finished making changes, click OK to apply the settings, or click Restore Defaults to return the settings to their factory defaults. If you need to change the default printer or the port assignment, use the Control Panel Printers utility. Using the printer driver Before you start printing, you should make sure that the printer driver settings match your document requirements. While many Windows applications override the printer settings made with the driver, some do not.

This chapter explains how to use these paper types with your printer. Note: See Appendix A for detailed specifications on the paper types the printer can use.

You use the paper release lever to select the paper-feeding method: for tractor feeding or feeding, as described in the next section.

The paper release lever has two positions: tractor feeding and for for single-sheet feeding, as explained below. While adjusting the left edge guide to match the width of your paper, insert a sheet of paper between the edge guides until it meets resistance. Be sure to load your paper printable side up. After a few seconds, the printer automatically advances the paper to the loading position. The printer is ready to accept data from your computer and print.

If you are printing a multiple-page document, remove the printed sheet and insert a new sheet into the paper guide. The printer automatically advances the paper and resumes printing. Note: If the printer does not eject the printed sheet, press the Load/Eject button.

When using continuous paper, you can use the tear-off function to tear off printed pages and save the blank pages that are usually wasted between print jobs. For more information, see the next section. Note: q You can advance the paper to the loading position by pressing the Load/Eject button.

Note: When the auto tear-off function is on, the printer advances the paper perforation to the tear-off position automatically. You can turn on the auto tear-off function by using the printer’s default-setting mode or the EPSON Remote! utility.

When you turn on this feature, the printer provides a one-inch (25.4 mm) margin between the last line printed on one page and the first line printed on the next page. Because most application programs set their own top and bottom margins, you should use this feature only if you cannot set your top and bottom margins using your application.

You can choose automatic, parallel, or optional for the interface mode. When you select auto, the printer automatically selects the interface that is receiving data, and uses that interface until the end of the print job. This setting allows you to share the printer among multiple computers without changing the interface mode.

The slash allows you to easily distinguish between an uppercase letter “O” and a zero. High speed draft In high speed draft mode, the printer prints up to 300 cps (characters per second) at 10 cpi (characters per inch) when the Draft font is selected. If you select normal speed draft, it prints up to 250 cps at 10 cpi when Draft is selected.
