Sizing the Scanned Image
How much computer memory or disk space will be
required to store an image depends on several factors.
This section describes these factors, the relationship
between physical size of an image and the image’s
storage requirements, and how to adjust both of these
values.
Factors that Affect Image Storage
Requirements
There are several factors that affect how much
computer memory or disk space will be required to
store a scanned imaged:
Type of Original The size of a scanned image
depends on the type of original.
Color images require 24 bits of
computer memory or disk space for
each
pixel or dot in the image.
In comparison, grayscale images
require only 8 bits per pixel, and
