Basic Scanning

gives the best image quality, it also takes up the
most storage space when the image is finally saved
to disk.
256 Colors Saves the scanned object as an 8-bit
color image. Although an image scanned with this
option requires only a quarter of the file size it would
if it were scanned with the Color Photo option, only
256 colors can be represented. This option is best
for a color image that doesn’t have as many tones
as a color photograph would, such as a color
drawing.
Black & White Photo Saves the scanned original
as an 8-bit grayscale image (256 shades).
Black & White HalftoneSaves the scanned object
as a 1-bit halftone image.
A
halftone
image is composed of small black and
white dots that give the image the appearance of
having shades of gray. Most black and white
images in a newspaper or magazine are printed as
halftones.
