Scanner Buttons and Lights 1 The scanner cover light 2 The 3 The scanner light 4 The start button power button Parent topic: Scanner Parts Locations Changing the Power Off Setting You can use the Epson Scan Settings utility to change the time period of inactivity before the scanner turns off automatically. 1. Do one of the following to access the Epson Scan Settings utility: • Windows 8.x: Navigate to the Apps screen and select EPSON Scan Settings.
2. Click Energy Saving. 3. Enter the time period of inactivity before the scanner turns off automatically as the Power Off Timer setting. If you enter a value of 0, the scanner will not turn off automatically. 4. Click OK.
Placing Originals on the Scanner Follow the instructions here to place your originals on the scanner. Caution: Do not place anything on top of your scanner or use its cover as a writing surface to avoid damaging it. Placing Originals on the Scanner Glass Placing Thick Documents Placing Film or Slides on the Scanner Placing Originals on the Scanner Glass You can place originals directly on the scanner glass.
1. Open the scanner cover. 2. Make sure the document mat is installed inside the scanner cover.
3. Place your original facedown on the scanner glass with the top edge facing as shown. Slide the original to the edges of the indicated corner. Note: You can place multiple originals on the scanner glass. Make sure they are at least 0.8 inch (20 mm) away from each other. Note: If the originals have white borders, the built-in auto recognition feature may not detect the edges properly when scanning multiples. If this is the case, scan each original separately or manually select the scan area.
4. Close the scanner cover gently to keep your original in place. Press the power button to turn off the scanner.
2. Disconnect the cover cable. 3. Open the scanner cover.
4. Pull the scanner cover straight up and off of the scanner. 5. Press the power button to turn on the scanner. 6. Place your document facedown on the scanner glass. Note: Press down on your document to flatten it and hold the document down as you scan. 7. When you are finished scanning, replace the scanner cover in the reverse order that you removed it. Note: Always turn off the scanner before connecting or disconnecting the cover cable.
Placing Film or Slides on the Scanner Follow the instructions here to place your original film or slides on the scanner.
3. Slide the document mat out from inside the scanner cover. Note: Make sure the transparency unit transportation lock is unlocked. 4. Clean the transparency unit window and the scanner glass before placing your film or slides. 2. Slide up to three film strips into the holder with the shiny side facing up so that images and any wording on the film strips are not backward. Note: Do not cover any of the small holes in the holder; they are used as guides in the Thumbnail feature. 3. Close any open holder covers and press them down until they click into place. Also press down all the edges of the covers to secure them. Make sure the film strips are not pinched or curled.
4. Turn the film holder over. 5. Open the scanner cover. 6. Remove the document mat from the scanner cover, if necessary. 7. Place the holder on the scanner glass as shown. Align the arrows on the holder with the arrows on the scanner.
8. Close the scanner cover gently to keep the holder in place. Parent topic: Placing Film or Slides on the Scanner Placing Medium Format Film on the Scanner You can place medium format film on the scanner using the medium format film holder. Caution: Hold only the edges of the film strips or use gloves, or you may damage the film. Note: You cannot use Full Auto Mode when scanning medium format film.
2. Place the medium format film in the holder with the shiny side face up so that images and any wording on the film strips are not backward. Make sure the film is placed between the film guide tabs and resting on top of the film lock bevels as shown. 1 Film lock bevel 2 Film guide tab 3 Film holder cover Caution: Place the film on top of the film lock bevels. Forcing the film beneath the beveled edges will damage the film.
3. Make sure that the entire image frame is positioned in the film holder opening, with the film centered and sitting on top of the film lock bevels. Then gently close the film holder cover and press it down until it clicks into place. Also press down all the edges of the cover to secure it. Make sure the film is not pinched or curled.
7. Place the holder on the scanner glass as shown. Align the arrows on the holder with the arrows on the scanner. 8. Close the scanner cover gently to keep the holder in place. Parent topic: Placing Film or Slides on the Scanner Placing 4 x 5 inch Film on the Scanner You can place 4 × 5 inch film on the scanner using the 4 × 5 inch film holder. Caution: Hold only the edges of the film strips or use gloves, or you may damage the film.
2. Slide the 4 × 5 inch film into the holder with the shiny side facing up so that images and any wording on the film strips are not backward. Make sure the entire image frame is positioned in the film holder opening. Note: You may need to trim the edges of the film so that it sits properly in the film holder without bending or warping. Do not cover any of the small holes in the holder. 3. Close the film holder cover and press it down until it clicks into place.
4. Turn the film holder over. 5. Open the scanner cover. 6. Remove the document mat from the scanner cover, if necessary. 7. Place the holder on the scanner glass as shown. Align the arrows on the holder with the arrows on the scanner.
8. Close the scanner cover gently to keep the holder in place. Caution: Hold only the edges of the slides or use gloves, or you may damage the film. Note: Make sure the white areas on the back of the holder are not scratched, dirty, or covered in any way or the scanner may not correctly detect the holder during scanning. You cannot scan negative slides. 1.

Scan using Epson Scan Professional Mode and select Film (with Film Area Guide) as the Document Type.
1. Open the scanner cover. 2. Remove the document mat from the scanner cover, if necessary. 3. Place the film area guide on the scanner glass and align it as shown.
4. Place the film in the film area guide with the shiny side facing down. Make sure the entire image frame is positioned within the film area guide.
Note: The images and any wording on the film should appear backward. Do not cover the area shown or colors in your scan may be affected. 5. Close the scanner cover gently to keep the film in place. Parent topic: Placing Film or Slides on the Scanner Related tasks Scanning in Professional Mode Epson Fluid Mount Option The Epson fluid mount option lets you take full advantage of your scanner’s capability for high-resolution imaging.
To use the Epson fluid mount, you need to obtain the following commercially available supplies: • Scanner mounting fluid • Scanner mounting film (clear Mylar polyester film) Caution: Scanner mounting fluid is highly flammable; keep away from sources of heat, flame, or sparks. Mounting fluid contains harmful solvents. Avoid contact with the eyes and skin and always work in a wellventilated area.
2. Set the Epson fluid mount guide on your work table. Then place the fluid mount tray on top of the guide. 1 Tray 2 Guide 3 Grid Note: Use the grid to align your film while mounting it on the tray. The grid indicates the optimal area for 6400 dpi scanning.
3. Place a drop or two of mounting fluid on the glass tray where you want to mount your film. Only a few drops are needed to mount a six-frame 35-mm strip. Note: You need to work quickly so the mounting fluid doesn’t evaporate. 4. Place your film over the wet area. Use the grid to align your film. 5. Apply a small amount of fluid to the top of your film. 6. Place the clear mounting film on top.
7. Open the scanner cover and remove the document mat, if necessary.
8. Lift the fluid mount tray off the guide and place it on the scanner. Orient it so the narrow window of the tray is toward the back of the scanner. Do not block the window. 9. Close the scanner cover. 10. Start Epson Scan and select Professional Mode as the mode setting. 11. Select Film (with Film Holder) as the Document Type.
12. Select the Film Type, Image Type, and Resolution settings you want to use. Note: You can select up to 6400 dpi for the best image quality. 13. Click the Preview button to preview your images. Note: Make sure the Normal tab is selected in the preview window. 14. Select the scan area for each photo individually, being careful to select only the image itself and not the surrounding area. Then make any desired image adjustments before scanning.

Starting a Scan from a Scanning Program You can start Epson Scan from a TWAIN-compliant scanning program to select scan settings, scan, and open the scanned image in the program. 1. Open your scanning program and select its scanning option. (See your scanning program help for instructions.
2. Select your product. Note: In certain programs, you may need to select your product as the "source" first. If you see a Select Source option, choose it and select your product. Selecting the Scan Mode Select the Epson Scan mode you want to use from the Mode box in the upper right corner of the Epson Scan window: Parent topic: Selecting Epson Scan Settings Scanning in Full Auto Mode When you scan in Full Auto Mode, Epson Scan automatically saves your scanned file in JPEG format in your operating system's Pictures or My Pictures folder, or opens it in your scanning program.

To select image adjustment options or change your scanned file settings, click Customize, select the settings you want, and click OK. • To choose any of the available image adjustment options, select the checkbox for the option. • To change the scanned file settings, click File Save Settings. 3. Click Scan. Epson Scan scans your original, and saves the file in the selected folder or opens it in your scanning program.

(The Resolution setting is selected automatically based on the Destination setting you choose.) • Screen/Web: Select this option for images you will email, view on a computer screen, or post on the web. • Printer: Select this option for images you will print or documents you will convert to editable text using OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software.
You can also use the scan area to select specific Image Adjustments settings for a scanned image. Just be sure to click inside the scan area before selecting the settings. 1. Do one of the following to select your scan area in the Preview image: • Thumbnail preview: Your scan area is selected automatically, but you can change it. Place your cursor in one corner of the desired scan area, then click and drag the cursor to the opposite corner to create a marquee (dotted line) on the preview image.
• Normal preview: Click the image. Auto Locate icon to create a marquee (dotted line) on the preview 2. Do the following, as necessary, to work with the selected scan area: • If the marquee is correct, continue with the next step. • To move the marquee, click inside the scan area and drag the marquee where you want it. • To resize the scan area, place your cursor over the edge or corner of the marquee, then click and drag the edges where you want them.
• Normal preview: To create additional marquees (up to 50), click the copy the existing marquee and paste it on the preview image. Copy Marquee icon to Note: If you draw multiple marquees, make sure you select the All button in the Preview window before you scan. Otherwise, only the area inside the currently selected marquee will be scanned. • To delete a marquee, click the marquee, then click the Delete Marquee icon. • Thumbnail preview: To change the preview style, click one of the Size icons. 3.
DIGITAL ICE Technology Removes stubborn dust and scratch marks from photos. The effects of DIGITAL ICE Technology do not appear in the Preview of the image; you must scan the original to see the results. Text Enhancement Sharpens the appearance of letters in text documents. Auto Area Segmentation Makes grayscale images clearer and text recognition more accurate by separating the text from the graphics. Brightness Adjusts the overall lightness and darkness of the scanned image.

2. Select the Document Type setting that matches your original, such as Reflective for documents or photos, or Film for film or slides. 3. Select the Document Source setting indicating where you placed your original. 4. Select the specific type of original you are scanning as the Auto Exposure Type setting: Document or Photo. 5. Select the details of your original and how you want it scanned as the Image Type setting. 6. Select the Resolution setting you want to use for your scan. 7.
24-bit Color Select this setting for color photos. Color Smoothing Select this setting for color graphic images, such as charts or graphs. 16-bit Grayscale Select this setting for black-and-white photos with many shades of gray. 8-bit Grayscale Select this setting for black-and-white photos with a few shades of gray. Black & White Select this setting for black text documents or line art.
Descreening Removes the ripple pattern that might appear in subtly shaded image areas, such as skin tones. This option improves results when scanning magazines or newspapers. (The results of descreening do not appear in the preview image, only in your scanned image.) Color Restoration Restores the colors in faded photos automatically. Backlight Correction Removes shadows from photos that have too much background light. Dust Removal Removes dust marks from your originals automatically.
Saturation Adjusts the density of colors in the overall image. Color Balance Adjusts the balance of colors in the overall image. Color Palette Provides a graphical interface for adjusting mid-tone levels, such as skin tones, without affecting the highlight and shadow areas of the image. (For advanced users only.) Click the to access the settings.
A marquee (dotted line) appears on your preview image proportioned for the size you selected. 3. Do the following, as necessary, to work with the selected scan area: • To move the marquee, click inside the scan area and drag the marquee where you want it. • To resize the scan area, place your cursor over the edge or corner of the marquee, then click and drag the edge where you want it. Note: Manually adjusting the marquee will not change the target size of the scanned file.
4. To create a scanned image size that is not available in the Target Size list, click the Customize option. You see this window: 5. Name the custom size, enter the size, click Save, and click OK. Then adjust the marquee on the preview image. The marquee is automatically proportioned for your custom scan size.
6. To use additional sizing tools, click the + (Windows) or and select options as desired. (OS X) icon next to the Target Size setting • Scale: Reduces or enlarges your image by the percentage you enter. • Trimming: Turns automatic image cropping on or off. • Unlock icon: Unlocks the width/height proportions of the scanned image size so you can adjust it without constraint.
• You will scan the image at its original size but enlarge it later in an image-editing program. Increase Epson Scan's Resolution setting in your scan. Increase the resolution by the same amount you will increase the image size to retain a high image quality. For example, if the resolution is 300 dpi (dots per inch) and you will double the image size later, change the Resolution setting to 600 dpi. • You will scan the image at 100% or smaller size.
Selecting Scan File Settings You can select the location, name, and format of your scan file on the File Save Settings window. You can also select various optional settings that control how Epson Scan behaves when you scan and save files. The File Save Settings window may appear after you click Scan on the Epson Scan window. You may also be able to access the window by clicking the icon on the Epson Scan window. 1.
• Click the Other button, click the Browse or Choose button, and select a folder. 2. Type in a file name in the Prefix field. This name is used along with numbers to automatically name your scanned files. 3. Select a different number as the Start Number setting, if you like. 4. Select the file format you want to use in the Image Format Type menu. 5. If your file format provides optional settings, click the Options button to select them. 6.
TIFF (*.tif) A file format created for exchanging data between many programs, such as graphic and DTP software. Optional Settings Overwrite any files with the same name Select to overwrite previous files with the same names. 3. Select the scan mode you want to use. 4. Select the scan settings for your scan. 5. Preview your image. 6. Locate or access the image adjustment settings. 7. Select the Color Restoration checkbox. 8. When you finish selecting all your settings, click Scan. 9. Click Close to exit the Epson Scan window, if necessary. Epson Scan scans your original, and saves the color-restored file in the selected folder or opens it in your scanning program.

Parent topic: Removing Dust and Scratch Marks Using DIGITAL ICE Technology Scanning to a PDF File Using Epson Scan in Home or Professional Mode, you can scan a multi-page document and save it in one PDF (Portable Document Format) file on your computer. 1. Place your original on your product for scanning. 2. Start Epson Scan. 3. Select the scan mode you want to use. 4. Select the scan settings for your scan. 5. Preview your image. 6. When you finish selecting all your settings, click Scan.
You see the File Save Settings window. 7. Select PDF as the Type setting. 8. Select any other settings you want to use on the File Save Settings window. Click the Options button to access additional settings. 9. Click OK.
Epson Scan scans your document and you see this window: 10. Choose one of the following options: • If you are scanning only one page, click Save File. • If you need to scan additional pages in a document, click Add page. Place additional pages on the product for scanning, click Scan, and repeat until you have scanned all the pages. When you are finished, click Save File. • If you need to delete or reorder the scanned pages, click Edit page.
Scanning in Professional Mode Using the Scanner as a Copier - Copy Utility You can use your scanner along with a printer connected to your computer just like you would use a copy machine. Using the Copy Utility, you can enlarge or reduce, restore faded colors, and adjust a variety of other settings as you copy. 1. Do one of the following to start the Copy Utility: • Windows 8.x: Navigate to the Apps screen and select Copy Utility. • Windows (other versions): Click Software, and select Copy Utility.
5. Click the Output Paper box, select the type and size of paper you loaded in your printer, and click OK. Note: When printing from certain Epson printers, you may see the printer settings window. See your printer documentation for instructions on selecting settings. 6. To reduce or enlarge as you copy, click the Copy Size box, select the option you want, and click OK. Note: When printing from certain Epson printers, you may also see options for borderless printing. 7.

Cleaning and Transporting Your Scanner See these sections if you need to clean or transport your scanner. Cleaning Your Scanner Transporting Your Scanner Cleaning Your Scanner To keep your product working at its best, you should clean it several times a year. Caution: Do not use a hard brush, alcohol, or paint thinner to clean the product or you may damage it. Do not use oil or other lubricants inside the product or let water get inside it. Do not open the product case.
1. Make sure the carriage is in the home position on the upper side of the scanner. If the carriage is not in the home position, turn on the scanner and wait until the carriage moves to the home position. 2. Open the scanner cover and slide the transparency unit transportation lock to the locked position. Then close the scanner cover. 3. Turn off the scanner using the power button. 4. Unplug the AC power cord. 5. Disconnect the USB cable.
6. Disconnect the scanner cover cable. 7. On the back of the scanner, slide the transportation lock to the locked position to secure the scanner carriage. 8. Place the scanner in its original packing materials if possible, or use equivalent materials with cushioning around the scanner. Caution: Avoid turning the scanner upside down when transporting.

Start Button Does Not Work as Expected If the start button does not start the correct program or perform the correct action, try these solutions: • Make sure Epson Scan is installed correctly. If necessary, uninstall and reinstall it. • Check the default setting assigned to the start button in Event Manager and change it, if necessary.

Scanning is Slow If scanning becomes slow, try these solutions: • Scan your original at a lower resolution, if possible. • Make sure your system meets the requirements for your operating system. If you are scanning a highresolution image, you may need more than the minimum requirements, such as a Hi-Speed USB port. If necessary, increase your system's memory. • If you are running virus protection or other security software, exclude the TWAIN.log files from monitoring or set the TWAIN.log file as read only.
Film or Slide Scanning Does Not Work Negative Film Preview Image Looks Incorrect Ring Pattern Appears in Scanned Film or Slides Parent topic: Solving Problems Image Consists of a Few Dots Only If your scanned image consists only of a few dots, try these solutions: • Make sure you placed your original for scanning facing the correct way. • If you are scanning using the Epson Scan Black & White setting, adjust the Threshold setting and scan again.
Image is Distorted or Blurry If a scanned image appears distorted or blurry, try these solutions: • Make sure your original is not wrinkled or warped. This may prevent the original from laying flat on the scanner glass. • Do not move your original or your product during scanning. • Your product will not operate properly while tilted at an angle. Place it on a flat, stable surface that extends beyond the base of the product in all directions.
