Though you can use four AA (LR6) alkaline batteries (not included), the rechargeable batteries help you save time and money you might otherwise spend buying replacement alkaline batteries. Charge your new rechargable batteries before installing them in the camera. Keep the following points in mind when using these batteries.

At certain times you may want to adjust the white balance setting so that the colors in your images appear more like those seen by the eye. When taking pictures at dusk, for example, adjust white balance to Lock to increase reddish color tones in your images.

If you turned on the camera with the lens cap attached, optical zoom feature may not work correctly. In this case, change to another card, erase some pictures using the LCD monitor, or transfer the pictures to your computer and then erase them. You can take a picture as close as 20 cm with or without the flash in Macro mode.
