Welcome! Your Epson Stylus® Photo R2400 gives you beautiful archival prints on a wide variety of glossy and matte papers in many sizes. About Exif Print The Exif (Exchangeable Image File) Print format includes information about your digital camera settings in JPEG/TIFF files so your printer and application can use them to create accurate print settings. Most digital cameras store Exif Print information such as shutter speed, metering, flash, and exposure settings, resolution, and lens use in the JPEG/TIFF image file. Your printer uses the information to ensure the most accurate image reproduction.

See page 15 for instructions. Loading Paper in the Sheet Feeder 1. Open the paper support and pull up the support extensions. 2. Push in the bottom of the output tray.
3. Pull out the output tray extension. 4. Place your paper in the printer and slide it against the right side of the sheet feeder. It’s usually whiter or brighter than the other side. ■ Load letterhead or preprinted paper into the printer top edge first.

Loading Multiple Sheets of Matte Paper If you are loading multiple sheets of the following papers in sizes larger than letter (8.5 × 11 inches), attach the matte sheet support to the top of the sheet feeder to help separate the sheets of paper and prevent misfeeds: ■ Epson Ultra Premium Presentation Paper Matte ■ Epson Enhanced Matte Paper ■ Epson Premium Presentation Paper Matte ■ Epson Matte Paper Heavyweight 1. Open the paper support and pull up its extensions.
2. Place the hook on the back of the matte sheet support over the paper support extension, and hold the top extension with one hand while sliding the matte sheet support all the way down. Matte sheet support 3. Load your paper as described on page 12. Note: Remove the matte sheet support when you load other types of paper.
Loading Special Paper in the Single Sheet Guide Load these types of paper in the single sheet guide: ■ Epson Watercolor Paper - Radiant White ■ Epson Velvet Fine Art Paper ■ Epson UltraSmooth Fine Art Paper ■ PremierArt Matte Scrapbook Photo Paper for Epson 1. Remove the roll paper holder if it’s installed (see page 21). 2. Slide the roll paper edge guide all the way to the right.
3. Line up the notches on the single sheet guide with the slots on the back of the printer and insert them as shown. Then insert the tabs on the top of the guide into the slot beneath the printer cover. 4. Turn on the printer (the printer must be on to load paper in the single sheet guide correctly). 5. Insert one sheet of paper against the right edge, then slide the left edge guide against the sheet.
6. Guide the paper into the slot and feed it into the printer until the paper meets resistance. 7. Maintain constant pressure against the paper until the printer pulls it in slightly. Continue to apply light pressure until the paper begins feeding, then let go of the paper to allow the printer to adjust the paper position.
8. Open the printer cover and look down into the printer to make sure the paper is loaded correctly. It should be straight and the leading edge of the paper should not be visible. Paper is loaded correctly If edge is visible, reload paper If the paper isn’t loaded correctly, press the z roll paper button for 3 seconds to back the paper out. Remove the paper, then press the ) paper button to clear the paper out error. Reload the paper. 9.
Loading Roll Paper or Canvas You can load 4-inch, 8.3-inch, or 13-inch wide roll paper or 8.3-inch canvas for printing multiple photos or panoramas, with or without borders. Note: Instructions apply to both roll paper and canvas unless otherwise noted. Tip: It’s a good idea to check your ink levels before loading and printing on roll paper (see page 83). If you need to replace a cartridge with roll paper loaded, you should remove the paper or marks may appear in your printout. 1.
5. Place the roll paper on the holders as shown, then remove the tape and protective paper from the end of the roll. 90° 6. Make sure the end of the paper is cut straight across, with 90° corners. If the end is cut diagonally, you may have problems feeding the paper. If you’re loading canvas, it is important to cut the edge so it’s straight and even. 7. If the paper curls at the end, roll it backwards between a folded sheet of paper to uncurl it.
8. Insert the left roll paper holder (marked with an orange triangle) into the far left slot (also marked with an orange triangle). Then insert the other holder into the corresponding slot on the right. 9. While holding the paper, feed it part of the way into the roll paper feeder (under the white rollers), then slide the right roll paper edge guide to fit lightly against the paper.
10. Push the paper into the feeder until it meets resistance. Maintain pressure on the paper until the printer feeds the paper automatically. Note: You may need to reload canvas or thicker roll media to ensure accurate paper registration. When loading canvas, leave ample slack between the roll and the printer to ensure smooth paper feeding. Be sure to maintain slack while printing. If you don’t, your prints may show distortion of shapes, fuzzy text, or banding.
Loading Thick Media in the Front Path You can load media 1.0 to 1.3 mm thick into the front path, in sizes from 8 × 10 inches to A3+. Note: Since the media feeds through the printer from the front to the rear, make sure there is enough space behind the printer for the media to move completely through the printer. 1. Turn on the printer and remove any paper loaded in the sheet feeder at the top of the printer. 2. Close the paper support at the top of the printer. 3.
6. Insert the media two or three inches into the printer, and push the left edge guide against the media’s edge. Maintain slight pressure on the guide while inserting the media the rest of the way into the printer. Stop when the front edge of the media is aligned with the arrow on the right side. 7. Press the ) paper button. The media is fed into the printer automatically. When the P power light stops flashing, the printer is ready to print.

Basic Printing in Windows Follow the steps below to print a document or image using the basic printer settings. For roll paper printing, see page 43. For borderless printing, see page 49. 1. From the File menu, click Print. You see a Print window like this one: Check for your printer name here Click here to open your printer software 2. Make sure EPSON Stylus Photo R2400 is selected. 3. Click the Properties or Preferences button. (If you see a Setup, Printer, or Options button, click it first.) 4.
5. Select one of these document types as the Quality Option setting: ■ Draft: For rough drafts with reduced print quality ■ Text: For text-only documents (like letters) with good print quality ■ Text & Image: For documents with text and images with higher print quality ■ Photo: For photos and graphics with good print quality and speed ■ Best Photo: For photos or graphics with high print quality 6.
Note: For more information about printer settings, click the ? or Help button. For additional print settings, click the Advanced button at the bottom of the screen and see page 31 for details. 11. Click OK to return to the Print window. 12. Click OK or Print to start printing. During printing, this window appears. Use it to cancel, pause, or resume printing and check ink cartridge status.
Customizing Your Windows Print Settings Follow these steps to print a document or image using advanced printer settings: 1. On the Main tab, click the Advanced button in the bottom right corner. 2. Click Continue. The Basic settings change to the Advanced settings: Print quality Note: If you want to use the Advanced screen each time you access your printer settings, select the Show this screen first checkbox. 3.
■ Edge Smoothing: Prints smoother edges on low-resolution images, such as bars in a graph. ■ Color Controls: Lets you adjust the Brightness, Contrast, Saturation, and cyan, magenta, and yellow levels in your printout. ■ Advanced B&W Photo: Lets you access Color Toning, Toning, and other image adjustments when printing black and white images. Choose a preset Color Toning with the menu or create a custom setting by clicking Settings.

2. Open the Format for menu and select your printer. Select Stylus Photo R2400 Select your document or image orientation 3. Open the Paper Size menu and select the size of the paper you loaded. Then select the source setting from the submenu for that size. Choose the paper size 34 Choose a source setting ■ For prints on paper loaded in the sheet feeder with borders around the image, select just a paper size in the menu or submenu.
■ For prints made on thick media loaded into the front path, choose Manual - Front as the source. For roll paper printing instructions, see page 43. For details on borderless printing, see page 49. Caution: When printing non-borderless print jobs using a custom paper size, make sure the selected size matches the paper you loaded and is within the printable area for your printer. For example, never choose a paper size wider than your printer’s sheet feeder or longer than your paper length.

15. To monitor the progress of your print job, click your printer’s icon or the Print Center icon when it appears in the dock. Then double-click Stylus Photo R2400. You see this screen: 16.
Customizing Your Macintosh Print Settings Follow these steps to print a document or image using advanced printer settings: 1. From the File menu, select Print. 2. Select Print Settings from the pop-up menu. Note: In certain programs you may need to select Advanced before you can select Print Settings. 3. To access advanced settings, click Advanced. 4.
■ Mirror Image: Inverts the image horizontally. ■ Finest Detail: Places ink droplets in the most precise manner for high quality printing. (Printing takes longer in this mode.) Note: For more information on printer settings, click ?. 5. To select Color Management options, select Color Management from the pop-up menu. Select Color Management options as follows: ■ Color Controls: Lets you adjust the Brightness, Contrast, Saturation, Gamma, and cyan, magenta, and yellow levels in your printout.
Selecting the Correct Paper Type Select the correct Type or Media Type setting so your printer knows what kind of paper you’re using and adjusts the ink coverage accordingly. Certain paper types may be unavailable depending on which black ink cartridge is installed. See “Matching Black Ink to Paper Type” on page 68.

Selecting Roll Paper Print Settings Follow the steps in one of these sections to select your roll paper print settings: ■ “Windows” below ■ “Mac OS X” on page 45 Windows 1. Start your print application, open your photo file, and resize it as necessary. 2. Open the File menu, click Print, then click Properties or Preferences. 3.
6. Choose Roll as the Source setting. The Roll Paper Options dialog box pops up: 7. Select the roll paper settings, including whether to print a page frame, based on the type of printing you’re doing (see the table below); then click OK: Type of printing Roll Paper Options Borderless photos Cut Sheet Mode or Banner Mode (if your photo is over 27 inches long) Photos with borders or panoramics Cut Sheet Mode 8. Click OK. 9. Click OK or Print. Follow the steps on page 48 to remove your printed photos.
4. Open the Paper Size menu and select your photo size. Then select a Roll Paper or Roll Paper - Borderless setting from the submenu for that size. To print without a border between photos, choose a Roll Paper - Borderless Banner setting for your photo size. Make sure the width of your photo is 4, 8.3, or 13 inches maximum, depending on the width of the roll paper you loaded. Also set the margins to 0 in your printing software. 5. Click OK. 6. Select Print from the File menu. 7.

Select the type of roll paper you loaded as the Media Type setting: ■ Premium Photo Paper Semi-Gloss ■ Ultra Premium Photo Paper Luster ■ Premium Photo Paper Glossy Note: For PremierArt Water Resistant Canvas, choose Ultra Premium Photo Paper Luster. For Piezo Pro Matte Canvas, choose Premium Presentation Paper Matte. When printing on canvas, choose Best Photo or Photo RPM and turn High Speed off. For the best color prints on either Epson canvas medium, be sure to use the Premium ICC Profile. 10.
Removing Your Printed Photos Follow these steps to remove your printed photos: 1. Press the z roll paper button once to feed the paper forward. 2. Cut the paper on the printed cutting line. 3. If you want to print another job on roll paper, press the z roll paper button once again; the paper returns to the correct print position. Removing and Storing Roll Paper Follow these steps when you’re ready to remove and store your roll paper: 1. Press the z roll paper button for 3 seconds.
Printing Borderless Cut Sheets You can print your photos with no margins, extending the image all the way to the edges of the page.
Follow the steps in one of these sections to print BorderFree photos on cut sheet paper: ■ “Windows” below ■ “Mac OS X” on page 51 Windows 1. Start your print application and open your photo file. 2. Open the File menu, click Print, then click Properties or Preferences. 3. Select Photo or Best Photo as the Quality Option. 4. Choose Sheet as the Source setting. 5. Select the type of paper you loaded as the Type setting. See page 41 for details. 6. Click the Borderless checkbox. 7.
Mac OS X 1. Start your print application and open your photo file. 2. From the File menu, select Page Setup. 3. Open the Format menu and select your printer. Select Stylus Photo R2400 Select the size of the paper you loaded here 4. Open the Paper Size menu and select the paper size for the paper you loaded. Then select a Sheet Feeder - Borderless setting from the submenu. 5. Select one of the portrait or landscape orientation icons as the Orientation setting. 6. Click OK. 7.
9. Select Print Settings from the pop-up menu. Note: In certain programs you may need to select Advanced before you can select Print Settings. 10. Select the type of paper you loaded as the Media Type setting. See page 41 for details. Note: If you can’t choose your paper type, check the Paper Size settings on the Page Setup window to make sure you selected the correct paper size and source, or that you have the correct black ink cartridge installed (see page 70 for information). 11.
Managing Color With Profiles Follow the steps in this section to use color profiles for printing with Adobe Photoshop (the instructions cover Photoshop 7, CS, CS2, and CS3).
5. If you see this message, select Use the embedded profile (instead of the working space) and click OK. It is generally best to use the embedded profile. 6. If you see this message, select Assign working RGB: Adobe RGB (1998) and click OK: 7. When your image appears, evaluate the color balance and contrast as displayed on your monitor. If they need improvement, select Image > Mode > Assign Profile (for Photoshop CS and 7) or Edit > Assign Profile (for Photoshop CS2 and CS3).
Selecting Your Print Settings 1. Select File > Page Setup. 2. Select the Size for your paper and the correct Orientation for your image: Select the correct size Select Portrait or Landscape 3. Click OK. 4. Select File > Print or Print with Preview. 5. If necessary, click More Options or Show More Options. If you see Output, select Color Management from the pull-down menu.
6. Under Color Handling in Photoshop CS2, select Let Photoshop Determine Colors. In CS3, select Photoshop Manages Colors. 7. Under Profile or Printer Profile, select the Epson Premium ICC profile that matches your printer, the paper you’ll use for the print, and the quality setting. Note: The Epson Premium ICC profiles can be identified with the suffix “.icc,” for example, “SPR2400 PremLuster BstPhoto.icc.” 8. For the Intent or Rendering Intent setting, select Relative Colorimetric.
7. Click the ICM button under Color Management, then Select Off (No Color Adjustment). IMPORTANT! Select Off (No Color Adjustment) Note: Make sure that you select Off (No Color Adjustment). If you don’t, the printer driver will apply additional correction to the image data, producing inaccurate results. 8. Click OK. 9. Click OK or Print to print your photo.
Mac OS X Opening Your Image 1. Open Adobe Photoshop. 2. Select Color Settings from the Photoshop menu (Photoshop 7 or CS) or the Edit menu (Photoshop CS2 or CS3). 3. Select U.S. Prepress Defaults or North America Prepress 2 from the Settings pull-down menu. This sets Adobe RGB (1998) as the RGB working space and activates warning messages for profile mismatches and missing profiles. Click OK. 4. Open the photo you want to print. 5.
7. When your image appears, evaluate the color balance and contrast as displayed on your monitor. If they need improvement, select Image > Mode > Assign Profile (for Photoshop CS and 7) or Edit > Assign Profile (for Photoshop CS2 and CS3). Select one of the following as the Profile setting: ■ A different RGB working space, such as ColorMatch RGB or sRGB IEC61966-2.
3. Click Color Management from the pop-up menu: Photoshop 7, CS Photoshop CS3 4. Under Color Handling in Photoshop CS2, select Let Photoshop Determine Colors. In CS3, select Photoshop Manages Colors. 5. Under Profile or Printer Profile, select a profile for your printer and the paper you’ll use for the print. If you’re printing with Epson Premium ICC profiles, select the profile that matches the print quality you want to use. Note: The Epson Premium ICC profiles can be identified with the suffix “.
3. Select Print Settings from the pop-up menu. Note: In certain programs you may need to select Advanced before you can select Print Settings. 4. Select the Media Type setting for the paper you’ll use for the print. Note: For printouts on Epson PremierArt Water Resistant Canvas, select Ultra Premium Photo Paper Luster for the paper type setting. For printouts on Piezo Pro Matte Canvas, select Premium Presentation Paper Matte. Additionally, make sure the Photo Black ink cartridge is installed.
Solving Color Management Problems If you selected the wrong combination of source profile, printer profile, and color management settings, you’ll get unexpected results. Try these solutions: ■ If your printed image is darker than expected and/or has a strong yellow-brown cast, you probably turned off color management in both Photoshop and the Epson printer driver. Return to the Print or Print with Preview instructions for Adobe Photoshop on page 59 (for Mac OS X) or page 55 (for Windows).
5. Select No Color Management (Photoshop CS2 or CS3) or Same as Source (Photoshop CS or 7) as the Print Space: Profile setting. 6. Click the Page Setup button. You see this window: 7. Select Stylus Photo R2400 from the Format for menu. 8. Select the appropriate Paper Size and Orientation settings, then click OK. 9. Click the Print button. 10. Select your printer from the Printer menu, then select Print Settings from the pop-up menu.
11. Select the Media Type setting for the profile you’re printing. 12. Click the Advanced button. 13. Select your desired level as the Print Quality setting. 14. Turn off the High Speed setting. 15. Select Color Management from the pop-up menu. 16. Select Off (No Color Adjustment). IMPORTANT! Select Off (No Color Adjustment) 17. Click Print to print your test target. 18. Repeat these steps to print a test target for each paper type and Print Quality setting you plan to print with.
Windows 1. Open Adobe Photoshop and open the profile target file provided by your profile-building software manufacturer. 2. If you see a missing profile screen, select Leave as is (don’t color manage). 3. Select File > Print or Print with Preview. 4. In the Print window, click the Show More Options checkbox, then choose Color Management in the pull-down menu. 5. Select No Color Management (Photoshop CS2 or CS3) or Same as Source (Photoshop CS or 7) as the Print Space: Profile setting. 6.
10. Select the print quality desired: Photo (1440 × 720 dpi), Best Photo (1440 × 1440 dpi), or PhotoRPM (5760 × 1440 dpi). 11. Turn off the High Speed and Edge Smoothing settings, if they are available. 12. Click the ICM button under Color Management and click the Off (No Color Adjustment) button. IMPORTANT! Select ICM, then click Off (No Color Adjustment) 13. Click OK. 14. Click OK or Print to print your test target. 15.
Easy Printing With Photoshop Elements 3.0 If you are using Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0 with Windows, you can take advantage of the Epson EasyPrint interface when you’re ready to print. It lets you select your basic settings directly from the Print window, so you don’t need to open the Properties or Preferences window to access the printer driver. This one-stop printing feature also prevents conflicts between software and driver settings by making them both match.
5. Select Print from the File menu. You see the Epson EasyPrint interface: Select EPSON Stylus Photo R2400 Select your paper type Choose your paper size and orientation Click here for borderless printing Select other print settings Click here for more print options 6. Change your print settings as necessary. 7. Click Print to start printing. Tip: If you’re printing a borderless print and it comes out with one or more borders, select Crop to Fit.

Swapping the Black Ink Cartridges Be sure you have the other black cartridge handy before you begin. Once you start replacing a cartridge, you must complete all the steps in one session. You can replace a cartridge whether the red H ink light is off, flashing, or on. 1. Make sure the printer is turned on (the green P power light should be on, but not flashing). Then open the printer cover. 2. Press the H ink button. The print head moves and the green P power light flashes. 3. Lift up the cartridge cover. 4.
8. Press the cartridge down until it clicks into place. 9. Close the cartridge cover, press down on the top until it clicks, then close the printer cover. 10. Press the H ink button. The printer begins charging the new cartridge. The green P power light and red H ink lights flash and the printer makes noise. Charging takes about 90 seconds. When it’s finished, the green P power light stops flashing and stays on. The red H ink light and the light above the cartridge go out.

Advanced Black and White Photo Printing The Advanced B&W Photo mode lets you easily produce neutral and toned black-and-white prints using your Epson driver and offers an alternative black-and-white workflow. Advanced B&W Photo mode also provides settings for more advanced black-and-white controls. These controls can be applied to color image files without the need to save a separate grayscale version.
Windows 1. Start your printing application and open your photo file. 2. Open the File menu and click Print, then click Properties or Preferences. 3. Select the appropriate Source, Type, and Size for your printout. 4. Click the Advanced button, if necessary. The Basic settings change to the Advanced Settings. 5. Click Advanced B&W Photo in the Color Management section.
6. Select a Color Toning option from the menu, or click Settings to create a customized Toning option. If you click Settings, the following window appears: 7. You can adjust the following settings: ■ Color Toning: Allows you to add tone (hue) to your black and white output. The default is Neutral, which will provide you with a neutral tonal scale print. Maintaining Your Printer Follow the instructions in this chapter to keep your printer working at its best and to prepare it for moving, if necessary: ■ “Cleaning the Print Head” below ■ “Replacing an Ink Cartridge” on page 82 ■ “Aligning the Print Head” on page 86 ■ “Cleaning the Printer” on page 88 ■ “Transporting the Printer” on page 89 Cleaning the Print Head If your printouts are unexpectedly light, or dots or lines are missing, you may need to clean the print head.
Automatically Checking and Cleaning the Print Head The Auto Nozzle Check and Cleaning utility prints a nozzle check pattern that the printer then reads to see if you have any clogged nozzles. If cleaning is needed, the printer automatically cleans the print head. 1. Make sure the printer is turned on but not printing, and the red H ink light is off. (If the H ink light is flashing or on, you need to replace a cartridge; see page 82.) 2.
Running the Head Cleaning Utility 1. Make sure the printer is turned on but not printing, and the red H ink light is off. (If the H ink light is flashing or on, you need to replace a cartridge; see page 82.) 2. Do one of the following: Windows: Right-click the icon on your taskbar (in the lower right corner of your screen). Select Head Cleaning. Note: If the icon does not appear, click Start > Printer (and Faxes), right-click on EPSON Stylus Photo R2400, and select Printing Preferences.
If the pattern has white lines or gaps (as shown below), click Clean to clean the print head again. If you don’t see any improvement after cleaning the print head three or four times, check the solutions beginning on page 99. You can also turn the printer off and wait overnight—this allows any dried ink to soften—and then clean the print head again. Replacing an Ink Cartridge When the red H ink light flashes, an ink cartridge is low on ink.
Checking the Ink Cartridge Status To check your ink cartridge status, do one of the following: ■ Windows: Double-click the taskbar. icon on the Windows You see a window like this: ■ Mac OS X: Choose Applications > EPSON Printer Utility > SP R2400 > EPSON StatusMonitor. You see a window like this: Click a cartridge image to display information about the cartridge.

Ink Cartridge Precautions Warning: Keep ink cartridges out of the reach of children and don’t drink the ink. If ink gets on your hands, wash them thoroughly with soap and water. If ink gets in your eyes, flush them thoroughly with water.
4. Press in the tab on the back of the cartridge, lift it out of the printer, and dispose of it carefully. 5. Shake the new cartridge four or five times before opening its package. (Don’t shake it after it’s unwrapped.) 6. Remove the new cartridge from its package. Caution: Don’t touch the green circuit board on the front of the cartridge; you may inhibit normal operation and printing. 7. Slide the new cartridge into its slot. The side with the green circuit board goes in the front of the slot. 8.

Make sure the printer is turned on but not printing. 2. Load letter-size Epson Presentation Paper Matte (Photo Quality Ink Jet Paper). 3.
Cleaning the Printer To keep your printer working at its best, you should clean it several times a year. 1. Turn off the printer, unplug the power cord, and disconnect the interface cable. 2. Remove all the paper, then use a soft brush to clean the paper feeders. 3. Clean the exterior of the printer with a soft, damp cloth. Keep the paper support and printer cover closed as you clean the printer. 4.
Transporting the Printer If you move your printer some distance, you need to prepare it for transportation in its original box or a similar one. Follow these steps: 1. Turn on the printer, and wait for the ink cartridge holder to move right to the home position. 2. Turn off the printer, unplug the power cord, and disconnect the interface cable. 3. Open the printer cover and tape the ink cartridge holder to the printer case using packing tape. Then close the printer cover.

Clears paper error after unloading roll paper. Cancels a print job while printing. H ink Moves the print head to the ink cartridge replacement position and returns it to its home position. Cleans the print head.
Printer Lights The table below summarizes the functions of the printer lights. Light Meaning Red ) paper out On: printer is out of paper, multiple sheets have fed, or the wrong size sheet has fed. Flashing: paper isn’t loaded for the currently selected paper path, or paper is jammed. Red H ink (eight) On: an ink cartridge is expended, or the Photo Black or Matte Black cartridges were swapped during printing. Flashing: an ink cartridge is low on ink. Green P power On: printer is turned on.

Red H ink light flashes slowly Running a Printer Check You can run a printer check to determine whether a problem comes from the printer or some other source. 1. Turn off your printer and computer, then disconnect the printer’s interface cable.
Problems and Solutions Setup and Software Installation Problems The printer makes noise after ink cartridge installation. ■ When you install ink cartridges, the printer must charge its print head for about two and a half minutes. Wait until it’s finished (the green P power light stops flashing) before you turn off the printer, or it may use excess ink the next time you turn it on.
Printer Problems Only the green P power light is on, but nothing prints. ■ Make sure the interface cable is securely connected at both ends and meets the system requirements on page 109. ■ Run a printer check as described on page 96. If the test page prints, make sure your software is installed correctly. ■ If you’re printing on a network, make sure you set up your printer for network printing, as described in your on-screen Reference Guide.
Quality Problems You see banding (light lines). ■ Clean the print head; see page 79 for instructions. ■ Select a higher print quality and turn off High Speed mode; see page 31 (Windows) or page 39 (Macintosh). ■ Select the correct Type or Media Type setting for your paper; see page 41. ■ Make sure the printable side of the paper is face-up; it’s usually whiter or shinier. ■ The ink cartridges may need replacing; see page 82. ■ Align the print head as described on page 86.
Your printout is faint or has gaps. ■ Clean the print head; see page 79 for instructions. ■ The ink cartridges may be old or low on ink; see page 82. ■ Select the correct Type or Media Type setting for your paper in the printer driver; see page 41. ■ Make sure your paper isn’t damaged, old, dirty, or loaded face-down. For best results, use genuine Epson paper. Caution: Don’t open Epson Status Monitor, pause printing, or respond to ink messages when your printer is printing.
■ Try turning off PhotoEnhance (Windows). Also check if you’re using a special effect that alters image colors, like Sepia. ■ Change the Gamma setting (Macintosh); see page 39. ■ Your printed colors can never exactly match your on-screen colors. However, you can use a color management system to get as close as possible. See the Photoshop color management instructions on page 53.
3. Remove any jammed paper from the sheet feeder or open the printer cover and remove any paper jammed inside. Press the ) paper button to clear the error. Roll paper or canvas doesn’t feed correctly or jams in the printer. ■ Cut the end of the paper straight across. If the edge is uneven or frayed, the paper won’t feed smoothly. ■ If the roll paper end is curled, place the end inside a folded sheet of paper and roll it backwards against the curl.
There is fiber or dust on the paper rollers, preventing paper from feeding properly. Paper dust may have built up on the paper rollers, preventing paper from feeding properly. Use Epson Ink Jet Printer Cleaning Sheets (part number S041150) to clean the rollers. Caution: Do not use the cleaning sheets that come with Epson special papers; they may jam inside your printer. Follow these steps to clean the paper rollers: 1. Remove any paper loaded in the printer’s sheet feeder. 2.
Miscellaneous Problems The image is inverted, as if viewed in a mirror. Turn off Mirror Image in the printer software or the mirror setting in your program. See page 31 (Windows) or page 39 (Macintosh) for instructions. The printer prints blank pages. ■ Make sure your printer is selected in the Print window, or in the Macintosh Printer Setup Utility or Print Center. ■ Clean the print head; see page 79 for instructions. You see incorrect characters.
Too many copies printed. Make sure that the Copies option in your printer software or program is not set for multiple copies. Image size/position is incorrect. Make sure the paper and layout options are set correctly. Uninstalling and Reinstalling Printer Software You may need to uninstall and then reinstall your printer driver and utilities if, for example, you upgrade your Windows operating system. You don’t need to uninstall your other photo software or the Epson Reference Guide. Windows 1.
4. Double-click the SPR2400 icon, then double-click the Vise icon. Click Continue. 5. Select Uninstall from the drop-down menu, then follow the on-screen instructions to remove the printer software. 6. Restart your Macintosh, then see the Start Here sheet to reinstall your software.
