intro.fm5 Page 7 Friday, April 4, 1997 8:25 AM Introduction Energy-saving Tips Here are a few tips you can use to be even more energy-wise: ◗ If your monitor isn’t ENERGY STAR compliant, turn it off when you’re not using it. ◗ Turn off your computer, printer, and monitor each day when you are done using them. ◗ Use the print preview option in your software so you can catch errors before you print something. ◗ Send e-mail rather than distributing memos.
intro.fm5 Page 8 Friday, April 4, 1997 8:25 AM Introduction ◗ Do not let the power cord become damaged or frayed. ◗ If you use an extension cord with the printer, make sure the total ampere rating of the devices plugged into the extension cord does not exceed the cord’s ampere rating. Also, make sure the total of all devices plugged into the wall outlet does not exceed 15 amperes. ◗ Except as specifically explained in this User’s Guide, do not attempt to service the printer yourself.
intro.fm5 Page 9 Friday, April 4, 1997 8:25 AM Introduction ◗ Do not use an ink cartridge beyond the date printed on the cartridge carton. For best results, use up the ink cartridges within six months of installing them. ◗ Do not shake an ink cartridge; this can cause leakage. ◗ Always turn the printer off using the Ppower button. When this button is pressed, the Ppower light flashes briefly then goes out. Do not unplug the printer or turn off the power to the outlet until the Ppower light is off.

printjob.fm5 Page 2 Friday, April 4, 1997 9:34 AM Managing Print Jobs and Network Printing Using the Spool Manager The Spool Manager works like the Windows Print Manager. When you send a job to your printer, your printer software creates a temporary journal file, stores it in the C:\TEMP or C:\WINDOWS\TEMP folder or directory, and assigns it to a print queue. The software then sends the file to your printer at the right time. Note: In Windows 3.

trouble.fm5 Page 1 Friday, April 4, 1997 11:15 AM 6 Troubleshooting As you use your printer, you may occasionally experience a paper jam or other problem. The first thing you should do is diagnose the problem, following the guidelines in this chapter. Then try the most likely solutions until the problem is fixed.
trouble.fm5 Page 2 Friday, April 4, 1997 11:15 AM Troubleshooting ◗ To determine whether the problem is caused by the printer itself, run a printer operation check. See “Running a Printer Check” for instructions. ◗ For the latest information, check the EPSON Stylus Photo Help program and the ReadMe file in the EPSON program group or folder. ◗ If none of the suggested solutions in this chapter solve your problem, contact EPSON as described under “Where to Get Help” in the Introduction.
trouble.fm5 Page 3 Friday, April 4, 1997 11:15 AM Troubleshooting Improving Print Quality You can often improve print quality by doing one of the following: ◗ Clean the print heads (see Chapter 5 for instructions). ◗ Use higher quality paper appropriate for your print job (see Chapter 3 for a list of EPSON papers). ◗ Match the Media Type setting in the Main printer settings dialog box to the type of media you loaded in the printer (see Chapter 3 for details).
