Introduction ❏ Keep the entire computer system away from potential sources of electromagnetic interference, such as loudspeakers or the base units of cordless telephones. Important Safety Instructions ❏ Use only the type of power source indicated on the product’s label. Read all of these instructions before using the printer.
SC-P800 Series User’s Guide Introduction ❏ When connecting the printer to a computer or other device with a cable, ensure the correct orientation of the connectors. Each connector has only one correct orientation. Inserting a connector in the wrong orientation may damage both devices connected by the cable. ❏ Shake new ink cartridges four or five times before opening their packages. ❏ Do not shake ink cartridges after opening their packages; this can cause leakage.

Do not use liquid or chemical cleansers. ❏ If the liquid crystal solution gets on your hands, wash them thoroughly with soap and water. If the liquid crystal solution gets into your eyes, flush them immediately with water. If discomfort or vision problems remain after a thorough flushing, see a doctor immediately. ❏ The exterior cover of the LCD screen could break if it receives a heavy impact.

B Edge guide Move left and right depending on the size of the paper that you want to load. This prevents paper being fed at a slant. C Printer cover Open when cleaning the inside of the printer or removing jammed paper. The cover is normally closed when the printer is in use. D Ink cartridge cover Open when installing or replacing ink cartridges.

The A icons indicate the status. Indicates the selected black ink using the following icons. Press the B to G icons to display menus for settings and checking. Photo black ink Matte black ink Displayed when connected to a wired LAN. A Status icon See the following table for the explanations of the icons.
SC-P800 Series User’s Guide Introduction Load Guide is displayed when paper is not loaded. You can continue by checking the selected Load Guide procedure on the screen. Displays the operation mode, radio wave status, and connection status for the wireless LAN. The icon is not displayed when the wireless LAN is disconnected. Media Setup is displayed when paper is loaded. You can set the Media Size and Media Type. The number of lines indicates the radio wave strength.

Precise output using the maximum resolution of 2880 × 1440 dpi and minimum ink dot size of 3.5 pl Print beautiful photographs with little graininess. Notes on Usage and Storage Also, when operating in dry areas, air conditioned environment, or under direct sunlight, maintain the appropriate humidity. Installation space ❏ Avoid locations in direct contact with air from air conditioners and locations with heat sources. This could dry the nozzles in the print head and cause clogging.

If the print head is left uncapped for a long time, the print quality may decline. ❏ When loading ink cartridges, be sure all colors are installed. The printer can only be used when all colors are installed. ❏ Do not move the print head by hand; otherwise, the printer may be damaged.

Notes on handling paper Note the following points when handling and storing the paper. If the paper is not in good condition, print quality may decline. ❏ Do not use a dryer to dry the print outs. Check the manuals supplied with each paper. ❏ Prevent color distortion while displaying or storing the print outs by following the instructions in the paper’s manual.

See http://epson.sn for Mac OS X or if you do not have a disk drive. You need to install the printer driver to use this printer. Summary of the Printer Driver The main functions of the printer driver are described below. Windows ❏ Converts print data received from applications into printable data and sends it to the printer. ❏ Allows the user to specify print settings such as the media type and paper size.

For cut sheets, the feeding methods vary depending on the media thickness. c❏ ❏ If the cut sheets are wavy or curled, flatten them before loading them in the printer. If wavy or curled cut sheets are loaded, this printer may not be able to detect the paper size or print correctly.

When Paper Setup Display is set to On and paper is loaded correctly, the setup screen for paper type and paper size is automatically displayed. The default value for Paper Setup Display is On. H I When paper feeding is complete, check that the printer is not operating, and then close the front manual feed tray. J Fully extend the output tray.

When the paper is loaded correctly, the Paper Setup screen is displayed.
SC-P800 Series User’s Guide Basic Operations B Loading Roll Paper Tighten the 2 screws on the unit. For roll paper, attach the optional roll paper unit to the printer. Load roll paper on the spindle supplied with the unit, and then load the spindle into the unit. SC-P800 Series User’s Guide Basic Operations U “Supported Media” on page 118 A Remove the black flange with the attachment from the spindle. B Push out the two hooks that fit into the flange. When the hooks have been released, you can remove the attachment. B Align the triangle marks on the attachment and the flange, and press until the hooks click into place. C In the same way, insert the attachment into the spindle first, and then attach it to the flange that is fixed to the spindle.

D Press the roll paper against the flange so that there is no gap between the flange attached to the spindle and the roll paper. E Press the black flange so that there is no gap between the flange and the roll paper. B Insert the spindle from the right so that the end of the roll paper is hanging down towards you. The front cover opens automatically when it is pressed.

F If the leading edge of the roll paper is curled, straighten it before inserting it in the printer. Load from the rear and make sure the gray (fixed) flange is on the left. If the leading edge is curled, the back of the paper may be soiled when printing.

If you try to remove the spindle while roll paper is still being fed, the printer could be damaged. E This section explains how to print and how to cancel printing. The Progress Bar is displayed, and printing starts. E Screen while printing The following screen is displayed when you start printing, and the Progress Bar (the computer's processing status) is displayed.

You can make print settings such as paper size and paper feed from the connected computer and then print. A Turn on the printer, and load the paper. B When you have created the data, from the File menu of the application, click Print and so on.
SC-P800 Series User’s Guide Basic Operations Set the Media Type, Color, Print Quality, and other settings according to the type of paper loaded in the printer. Normally, you can print correctly just by setting items in the Print Settings screen. F Canceling Printing (Windows) When the computer has finished sending data to the printer, you cannot cancel the print job from the computer. Cancel on the printer. When settings are complete, click Print.
SC-P800 Series User’s Guide Basic Operations If the job has been sent to the printer, print data is not displayed on the above screen. Note: You cannot delete print jobs which are in the print queue on the computer using the above operation. See "Canceling Printing (Windows)" or "Canceling Printing (Mac OS X)" in the previous section for information on deleting print jobs from the print queue.
SC-P800 Series User’s Guide Basic Operations Printable area The printable area is shown in gray in the illustration below. Note, however, that owing to the design of the printer, print quality will drop in the areas with hatching. The arrow in the illustration indicates the direction of the ejected paper. Important: c The width of the margins may vary somewhat depending on how the paper is loaded and its elasticity.
SC-P800 Series User’s Guide Basic Operations B Changing the Type of Black Ink This printer allows you to set both photo black ink and matte black ink and switch between them depending on the paper type. Select the paper type from the Media Type menu. Depending on the media type you select, black ink is switched automatically during printing. Photo Black ink reduces the grainy feeling of photo papers giving them a smooth, professional finish.
SC-P800 Series User’s Guide Basic Operations The black ink type that can be used for printing varies depending on the media type. ❏ You can select the type of black ink from the printer driver when the media type selected supports both photo black and matte black. When Last-used is selected, you can print using the black ink settings made on the printer. This printer comes equipped with the following two types of power saving settings.

Using the Printer Driver (Windows) Displaying the Settings Screen You can access the printer driver in the following ways: ❏ From Windows applications U “Printing (Windows)” on page 35 Make the necessary settings. You can save the settings or change the display items as you prefer. Saving various settings as your Select Settings You can save all printer driver settings as a Select Setting. Additionally, in Select Setting the recommended settings for a variety of uses are already available. You can save up to 100 settings.

A Go to the Utility tab and click Menu Arrangement. B Select Edit Item. C Order or group items in the List box. You can save up to 100 settings. You can choose a setting you have registered from the Media Type list box. Note: You can save the settings as a file by clicking Export.

Follow the instructions below to uninstall the printer driver. c ❏Important: You must log in with an Administrator account. ❏ In Windows 7/Windows Vista, if an Administrator password or confirmation is requested, enter the password and then continue with the operation. A Turn off the printer, and unplug the interface cable.

This utility is installed automatically when you install the printer driver. Displaying the Settings Screen Starting Epson Printer Utility 4 The display method of the printer driver setting screen may differ depending on the application or the OS version.

EPSON Status Monitor You can check the printer's status, such as the remaining ink level and error messages, from the computer's screen. Nozzle Check This function prints a nozzle check pattern to check whether the print head nozzles are clogged. If the pattern is blurred or there are gaps, preform head cleaning to clear the clogging.

Use the "Uninstaller" to remove the printer driver. Acquiring the Uninstaller You can download the "Uninstaller" from the Epson homepage. http://www.epson.com/ Using the Uninstaller Follow the steps provided when you acquire the "Uninstaller".

Correct color and print The printer driver automatically and internally corrects colors to match the color space. You can select from the following color correction modes. ❏ EPSON Standard (sRGB) Optimizes the sRGB space and corrects the color. ❏ Adobe RGB Adobe RGB Optimizes the sRGB space and corrects the color.

You can print black and white photos with rich gradation by adjusting the image data color by the printer driver. The original data is not affected. You can correct image data when printing without processing the data from applications. Note: It is recommended that you use images with a color space of sRGB.

You can print your data without margins on the paper. The types of borderless printing you can choose vary as shown below depending on the media type. Cut sheets: No margins for all edges Roll paper: No margins for the left and right When performing left and right borderless printing, margins appear on the top and bottom of the paper.
SC-P800 Series User’s Guide Printing Varieties Retain Size Create the print data larger than the paper size in the applications to produce borderless output. The printer driver does not enlarge the image data. Use settings such as Page Layout in the applications to set the size of the image data as follows. - When printing on cut sheets, print data is created so that 5 mm (a total of 10 mm) extends in all directions beyond the actual paper size.

Select Auto Expand or Retain Size as the Method of Enlargement. If you select Auto Expand, set how much of the image goes beyond the edge of the paper as shown below. A You can enlarge or reduce the size of your data. There are three setting methods.
