ESI Communications Servers Hardware Installation Manual ESI-50
H.8
Installation of card(s) for ESI Mobile Messaging and SIP trunking
The following instructions cover installation of the CS-SIP24, CS-SIP8, and CS-ASC on an ESI-100 or ESI-50.
Important: Each card is for ESI Communications Servers only (except ESI-50L) and requires a Hot-Swap Port Card
Adapter (five-pack, ESI # 5000-0462) if used on an ESI-1000, ESI-600, or ESI-200.
Before installing, verify that the system is running the appropriate system software. If it isn’t, download the
correct version from the ESI Resellers’ Web site and install it on the system.
ALWAYS power-down the entire system (all Cabinets) BEFORE adding or replacing any hardware.
Also, be sure to observe all proper procedures regarding the prevention of electrostatic discharge (ESD)
when performing the following procedures; otherwise, circuit boards may suffer damage.
Whenever you change the port card configuration, you must create a backup file for the new configuration
to be able to perform the Restore function later.
After removing the new card from the box, install it as follows:
1. Remove the locking screw (at the top of the cabinet, securing the cover),
and then remove the top cover by pressing down the locking tab and
pulling the top cover forward (Fig. C-1).
On each system, port cards are added in a “piggyback” fashion — i.e.,
port card 2 plugs into port card 1, port card 3 plugs into port card 2, etc.
(Neither the CS-SIP24 nor the CS-SIP8 nor the ASC may be in slot 1
on an ESI-100, and the ESI-50 main board contains a fixed 482 card.)
Use the following table and Fig. C-2 (below) to determine which
connectors to use in each case:
System Connecting SIP/ASC to . . . Use these respective connectors . . .
ESI-100 Main board n/a (not permitted)
ESI-100 Another port card other than a CS-SIP24, CS-SIP8, or CS-ASC
J15 to J2
ESI-100 Another CS-SIP24, CS-SIP8, or CS-ASC J15 to J16
ESI-50 Main board J18 to J16
ESI-50 A 482 card (i.e., not the one built into the ESI-50 main board) J18 to J6
ESI-50 A DLC82 card J18 to J9
ESI-50 Another CS-SIP24, CS-SIP8, or CS-ASC J18 to J17
2. A cable is attached to the correct connector of the new card. Connect the cable’s other end to the correct
connector of the cabinet’s existing port card.
3. Secure the card to the cabinet (Fig. C-2).
If it’s going into the top slot, use five screws.
If it’s going into the bottom slot, use five standoffs appropriately:
7/16-in. standoffs — Between the ESI-100 Base Cabinet and
the first card.
3/4-in. standoffs — Between the first and second card in the
ESI-100 Base Cabinet.
1-in. standoffs Between port cards in either the ESI-100
Expansion Cabinet or the ESI-50.
Use the screws that ship with the card to secure the new card to
the standoffs. (You may have leftover screws.) DON’T overtighten the
standoffs; it will strip the plastic bosses.
4. Put the top cover back on the cabinet, and then replace the locking screw to secure the cover on the
cabinet. (In other words, perform the reverse of Step 1.)
5. To remove the new card, follow steps 14 in reverse order.
