leadtodistortion,leakage,overheating,orexplosion,Incaseofstorageorthrowaway
thebattery,insulatea
terminalofthebatterywithatape.


Ingeneral,allbatteriesinallformsoftransportation(ground,air,orocean)mustbepackagedinasafeand
responsiblemanner.Regulatoryconcernsfromallagenciesforsafepackagingrequirethatbatteriesbepackagedin
amannerthatpreventsshortcircuitsandbecontainedin“strongouterpackaging”thatprevents
spillageof
contents.Alloriginalpackagingforcarbonzincbatterieshasbeendesignedtobecompliantwiththeseregulatory
concerns.
Carbonzincbatteries(sometimesreferredtoas“Drycell”batteries)arenotlistedasdangerousgoodsunderthe
ADREuropeanAgreementConcerningtheInternationalCarriageofDangerousGoodsbyRoad,
theIMDG
InternationalMaritimeDangerousGoodsCode,UNDangerousGoodRegulations,IATADangerousGoods
Regulations,ICAOTechnicalInstructionsandtheU.Shazardousmaterialsregulations(49CFR).Thesebatteriesare
notsubjecttothedangerousgoodsregulationsprovidedtheymeettherequirementscontainedinthefollowing
specialprovisions.
