Framing the Heat Shield
Included with the DV 42 Gas replace, is a framing Heat Shield Kit. This kit is fabricated
from galvanized steel and arrives with three (3) pieces, as shown below. The shields
protect all adjacent combustible materials, mantels and mouldings from excessive
heat radiated by the replace.
NOTE: The shields must be installed as shown in Figures 6 thru 6b.
Step 1. Fasten the two side shields (L42FS01x2) rst and ensure they are fastened
in place as shown. These are installed with the wide anges facing the center of
the replace opening, and the shallow ange toward inside of room. These are also
fastened with nails or screws, ush with framing as shown in Figure 6 and Inset.

Step 2. Next, fasten the top shield (L42FS02x1), with the wide ange face up, and
the shallow ange toward inside of room, Figure 6a.
Step 3. Nail or screw the top shield in place ush with framing, as shown in Figure 6b.

What is Combustible?
Materials that can catch re and burn are considered
combustible. Any material that is made of, or faced with,
wood, wood pulp, paper, plastic or any other material
that can catch re and burn is considered combustible.
Even though these materials may have been 'ame-
proofed', made 're-resistant' or are 're-rated' they are
considered combustible. Standard and Type X drywall
are both combustible.
What is Non-combustible?
A given material is said to be non-combustible when it
cannot catch re and burn. For example, materials made
entirely, or in combinations, of, stone, brick, concrete, tile,
steel, plaster or glass are considered non-combustible.
As of this writing, the materials listed below
are reported by their manufacturers to be non-
combustible (in accordance with the ASTM E136
standard) AND applicable for use around replaces:
