MANTELS
The graph in Figure 7 shows a range of allowable
depths and heights for a combustible mantel
installation.
As shown, the minimum allowable mantel height
above the replace opening is 2”/50 mm with a
1”/25 mm deep mantel.
The maximum mantel depth is 12”/300 mm at a
minimum height above the replace opening of
13”/330 mm.
All of the mantel height/depth combinations fall in
between these extremes in accordance with Figure
12.
Mantels made of non-combustible material are
allowed inside these dimensions but they will be
subjected to elevated temperatures and may be
too hot to touch.
A typical completed installation with mantel is
shown in Figure 7.
