Recorder Panel 1.1 INTRODUCTION The Recorder Panel is the graphical user interface used to control the recorder channels of an XT server. The Recorder Control Panel shows the record status of a channel and can enable channels to start or stop recording depending upon the XT server base configuration.

A recorder channel can be “dragged” from the channel explorer onto the open panel to assign it.

Shown in the screenshots below are all items that are available in the Recorder panel with shortcuts, the default values are shown. These can be modified and saved by the system user if desired.

Ingest Scheduler 2.1 INTRODUCTION The IP Ingest Scheduler allows for clips to be automatically made on any channel under the control of IP Director at either a time scheduled in advance or entered manually by the user, this means multiple events over a period of time can be automatically recorded and protected.

T IME A REA In the One Shot tab, enter the required date, start time and stop time or duration in the Time area.

Keywords Choose from any opened keyword grids all the keywords to be added per event. Bins Choose a destination bin from the bin directory tree, this is where the clips scheduled to be created will be stored.

VTR Control Panel 3.1 INTRODUCTION 3.1.1 PURPOSE The purpose of the VTR Control Panel is to control a VTR (Video Tape Recorder) from IP Director. It is an advanced remote control, from within the IP Director application. Apart from playback and record control, it also allows the extraction of clips from a tape to the XT servers.

The VTR device will be available to all users of the IP Director system.

D EVICE BAR The Device bar shows which device is linked to the VTR Control Panel. A different device can be selected by right-clicking the Device bar and selecting the device in the list that appears. M ODE SELECTOR The Mode selector shows the current state of the window.

The slider can be dragged to the left or to the right with the left mouse button. It returns to the zero state as soon as the mouse button is released. The slider can be "parked" at a fixed position by right-clicking the jog bar at the desired position. To return the slider to the zero state, left-click anywhere in the jog bar.

When a custom speed is not available on the VTR, the closest available speed will be used. S TATUS BAR The status bar shows the current status of the VTR Control Panel. 3.4 VTR CONTROL PANEL MODE 2: AUTO-EDIT MODE 3.4.1 PURPOSE In Auto-edit Mode , a single clip can be digitized from the VTR to a record channel on an XT server.

Values can be entered directly from the keyboard. After entering two values, the third value is calculated automatically.

A window with the question: “Do you want to optimize the Batch List before optimizing it?” appears. Click Yes if you want the list to be sorted automatically, to minimize tape search time. 8. Close Closes the active batch list. New Creates a new batch list. M odify Modifies the properties (Name Description) of the active batch list.

To export a Batch List: click the Export button, select a folder, enter a file name and click Save. In the next window: select which columns from the Batch List should be included in the export file and click OK.

Player Control Panel 4.1 INTRODUCTION The Player Control Panel, referred to as Control Panel in this user manual, is the graphical user interface used to control player channels of an XT server. The Control Panel allows controlling an XT channel and making clips.

The screenshot below shows the Channel Media pane. It includes a video display if the video display has been activated and linked to an A/V board in the IP Director Configuration module of the Remote Installer. 4.4.

This will automatically activate the OnAir button on the Control Panel. The actions linked to the GPI keys are defined in the GPI and Auxiliary Track window available from the IP Director main menu Tools > Settings. CHANNEL FIELD This section displays the name of the player assigned to the Control Panel, i.e.

It is also a drop-down list that contains the last 20 clips or trains that you have loaded on the channel in the current session.

Custom Speed field 4.5.2 LEFT TIMECODE FIELD The left timecode field shows the current timecode for the material being controlled by the panel: 4.5.3 • If a record train is loaded, the field shows the timecode of the record train.

Note Play-Lists can be played in either normal play or continuous loop but not in bounce mode. 4.5.5 CUSTOM SPEED FIELD The Custom Speed field indicates at which speed the media is played.
IP Director Version 4.3 – User Manual – Part 3: Ingest and Play-Out EVS Broadcast Equipment Issue 4.3.C 4.5.7 JOG BAR When a clip is loaded, the Jog bar shows the duration of the clip: • The white section represents the trimmed clip length, i.e. between the IN point and the OUT point that have been defined. • The yellow sections represent the guardbands before the IN point and after the OUT point. • The blue position indicator shows the actual relative position in the clip.
IP Director Version 4.3 – User Manual – Part 3: Ingest and Play-Out EVS Broadcast Equipment Issue 4.3.C 4.5.10 FAST REWIND ICON OR OR The Fast Rewind icon makes it possible to rewind the loaded media. The rewind speed is set via the contextual menu available from the Fast Rewind button. It is specified in the Custom Speed field displayed above the jog bar. A default rewind speed is set in the Tools > Settings menu, Transport tab and Speeds section. Please see the section 4.13.

Selecting a train will go to that train at its current position. A train which is being played through the network to this output channel will be approximately 3 seconds behind current network timecode.

Among others, the Grab Type “Grab to File” needs to be selected. 4.6 CLIP CREATION PANE The Clip Creation pane provides the functions to create clips.

Duration field: time interval between the IN and OUT point, i.e. clip duration 4.6.2 GOTO IN ICON OR OR The Goto IN icon, active when a clip is loaded, takes the media to the IN frame and timecode. 4.6.3 GOTO OUT ICON OR OR The Goto OUT icon, active when a clip is loaded, takes the media to the OUT frame and timecode. 4.6.

The timecode of the OUT point is then displayed in the Short OUT field. 4.6.6 CLEAR IN OR If you select the cross next to the Mark IN icon, the following happens: 4.6.

The update clip operation can also be done using the shuttle pro: Press on the keyboard and Note The update command will not be available if the user rights restrict editing of the clip currently loaded on the Control Panel. 4.6.
IP Director Version 4.3 – User Manual – Part 3: Ingest and Play-Out EVS Broadcast Equipment Issue 4.3.C 4.6.10 LAST CLIPS CREATED LIST This drop-down list displays: • the last 50 clips created by the user OR • the last 50 clips created that the user has the right to see. The list of clips available depends on the Last Clips Created List setting that is defined in the Clip Creation tab available from the Tools > Settings menu. Refer to section 4.13.
IP Director Version 4.3 – User Manual – Part 3: Ingest and Play-Out EVS Broadcast Equipment Issue 4.3.C 4.6.13 TAKE FUNCTION If the channel is in PGM/PRV mode, the Take function performs a transition from the current media on the PGM Control Panel to the media on the associated PRV channel using the settings determined in the Tools menu. Refer to section 4.13.3 “Take Effect Settings”, on page 75 for more information on the Take settings. This function is only available from a shortcut. 4.6.
IP Director Version 4.3 – User Manual – Part 3: Ingest and Play-Out EVS Broadcast Equipment Issue 4.3.C 4.6.15 CLIP STATUS When a clip is successfully created, moved or copied the status bar at the base of the IP Director main window will show the successful operation. If an operation has failed the bar will have a red background warning that the operation was not successful. Using the dropdown feature on the bar will reveal a list of recent operations.

Later Access to the Data Once the clip has been saved, the data will be available in the Clip Information tab and the Metadata tab of the Control Panel.

Play-List Editor 6.1 INTRODUCTION The Play-List Editor allows multiple play-lists to be made, modified and played to air using an efficient workflow with a great deal of flexibility. The workflow combines three work zones within the application that are needed to perform the tasks required: 1. a Mini Database Explorer 2.

A play-list in this state is “Idle”: although clips can be added to the play-list, it is not loaded to a channel of XT. It can therefore not be viewed or replayed but elements can be added and re-ordered.

They are still kept in the IP Director database. Note When the XT is reconnected later, no link is re-created between the play-list present on the XT server and the play-list present in the bins.

To delete unused play-lists, proceed as follows: 1. Load a play-list in the On-Air area of the Play-List Editor. 2. In the On-Air area, right-click the Play-List Name field. The play-lists are deleted from the XN et network. 6.7 THE PLAY-LIST EDIT AREA 6.7.1 INTRODUCTION The top of the Play-List area has an information section displaying the creation date and time, and the total duration of the play-list in the edit area. It also displays the Auxiliary clip being used if any, and allows for a timecode search to be performed within the play-list.

When the mouse is clicked on a value that can be modified on a selected element, the value becomes editable.

The drop-down box displays all trains available on the XNet network. If the corresponding recorder has a defined name, this name is displayed in the list otherwise its EVS technical name is displayed (i.e. : 29_XT1_REC1). IN Zone In this zone the IN point of the inserted train can be defined.

It can have one of the following values: • unknown • a fixed T/C value • a value calculated based on a duration from the IN point Unknown The OUT point of the element is not known, it is an open end element. The elem ent will be played out with the defined delay until an OUT point is entered.

When a right-click is made within the Edit Play-List area a contextual box is opened displaying several options: Insert Comment is displayed in the menu if the selected elem ent is not a comment line.

Up to 5 tags can be defined per playlist element. When a tag is added to a play-list it will be shown in the Tag Column together with its number.

The tags are sorted by T/C. For example, if 3 tags are defined, the first 3 positions should be checked and ordered by increasing T/C. For all undefined tags: • The check box is unchecked.

If Cancel is selected, the operation is aborted and the tag check box is unchecked, the corresponding tag line returns to the ‘empty’ values.

When this window is opened, the last value entered is displayed. Limit values are 00s00 to 20s00. Note A Mute tag and a Swap Audio tracks tag cannot be defined on the same T/C. See below for more information.

A new group can be named in the text field and the foreground and background colour of the new group line can also be defined from the standard ‘colour palette window’ of windows XP.

Each Column can be made visible or hidden using its check box.

For Exam ple when a music bed needs to be played at the same time as the original audio associated with the elements of a list or a particular clip needs to be used instead of the original element audio.

The Preview option will not be present in the ’View’ menu of the playlist editor if the ‘play-list’ code is not activated.

A clip can also be loaded by typing its name or LSM ID in the corresponding fields of the preview control panel.

The operator can also select a train using a right-click from the E/E button or use a left click on the E/E button to go to the default record train.

The train is inserted before or after the selected element in the list depending on the ‘Insert mode in play-list’ parameter of the play-list settings. The train can also be inserted in the play-list by a drag and drop operation into the list.

The operation of this method is the same as loading a train as above with the exception that the train being loaded could be in pause. If the train was in pause, the train is loaded on the preview control panel in PAUSE.

Issue 4.3.C Remaining time till the next break in the play-list. If the play-list has no break, the remaining time till the end of the play-list is displayed. It allows the operator to send commands directly to the XT server. These commands need to be reflected in the IP Director applications. The GPI keys first need to be configured in the Setup Configuration on the XT server.

The Settings for GPIs and Auxiliary track audio outputs are made for each XT server being controlled by IP Director. Therefore the XT server must be selected from the list and then have the settings applied.

PAUSE Initiates a pause command on the selected channel. RECUE Initiates a jump to the IN point of the on air element on the selected channel. If this is a play-list, the jump is performed to the IN point of the first clip of the play-list.

The following trigger modes can be defined: Trigger Mode Description Pulse Edge Rising The trigger is done on a rising edge pulse. Pulse Edge Falling The trigger is done on a falling edge pulse.

Example We consider that a GPI tag has been defined on the GPI key 1 in the Play-List Editor on a given timecode of a play-list. In the above configuration, a high pulse signal, that will last 1.12 sec. (Pulse Duration value), will be sent to the GPI key 1 just 1 sec.

P ULSE DURATION The pulse duration needs to be defined for pulse rising edge and pulse falling edge signals. The pulse duration depends on the sensitivity of the third device to be used. 6.10.

Shown in the screenshots below are all items that are available in the Play-List Editor with shortcuts, the default values are shown. These can be modified and saved by the system user if desired.
