password (Line Configuration)
Use the password command in Line Configuration mode to specify a password on a line. The default
configuration is no password is specified.
Format password [password [encrypted]]

password
Password for this level. Range is 8-64 characters
encrypted Encrypted password to be entered, copied from another switch configuration. The encrypted
password should be 128 characters long because the assumption is that this password is
already encrypted with AES.
The following examples show three dierent ways of using the command.

no password (Line Configuration)
Use this command to remove the password on a line.

Mode Line Config
password (User EXEC)
Use this command to allow a user to change the password for only that user. This command should be
used after the password has aged. The user is prompted to enter both the old and new passwords.

The following example shows the prompt sequence for executing the password command.
