ENERGY STAR

U-Factor: The heat transfer per time per area and per degree of temperature difference. The U-factor multiplied by the interior–exterior temperature difference and by

the projected fenestration product area yields the total heat transfer through the fenestration product due to conduction, convection, and long wave infrared radiation.

Expressed here in units of Btu/h.ft2.°F.

Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC): The ratio of the solar heat gain entering the space through the fenestration product to the incident solar

radiation. Expressed as a value between 0 and 1.

Air Leakage (AL): Measures the rate at which air passes through joints in the window. AL is measured in cubic feet of air passing through one square foot of window area

per minute. The lower the AL value, the less air leakage. Most industry standards and building codes require an AL of 0.3 cf·m/ft².

all of our Exterior Door Products. Certified units must hit

the U-Factor, Solar Heat Gain Coefficient in their climate

zone, and air leakage listed in the chart to the right. Visit
