Safety Information
The Display Ring is white (which usually indicates that the ice bin is full), but the ice bin
is not full.
This could indicate a malfunctioning sensor or a buildup of minerals.
If Opal used to make ice, and occasionally makes ice now but will not fill the bin, you will need
to clean your Opal. Minerals have probably built up over time. After cleaning, we recommend
using only distilled water in your Opal. Water quality is very important to the function and
required maintenance of your ice maker. Even bottled water can have high mineral content.
The Display Ring is blue (which usually indicates that Opal needs water), but it’s full of
water.
This could indicate that Opal’s pump is not working. To find out, put Opal in cleaning mode
using the switch on the back of the unit. Then, press the front button. Let the unit run in this
mode for three minutes. If the pump is operating correctly, you should see and hear water
pumping through your Opal.
If water begins pumping during this time, the pump is operating correctly. Switch the unit back
to ice mode and start making ice.
Opal leaks out the front.
A few drips from melted ice is normal when removing the ice bin; constant dripping or a puddle
of water leaking out the front is not!
Opal will not turn on.
First, check to make sure you are plugged into a working outlet and the breaker hasn’t been
tripped.
Next, put your Opal in cleaning mode using the switch on the back of the unit.
If the Display Ring begins to pulse yellow, press the front button.
If the water begins pumping and the display ring begins to rotate, your front button is working
fine. Switch the unit back to ice mode and see if it is working correctly.

The display ring is flashing yellow.
Switch Opal to ice making mode. Let Opal run for 10 minutes in this mode, and note if the air
blowing out of the unit is cool or warm at the end of 10 minutes.
If the air is warm, and Opal used to make good nuggets, try cleaning it. Minerals have
probably built up over time. After cleaning, we recommend using only distilled water in
Opal. Water quality is very important to the function and required maintenance of your
ice maker. Even bottled water can have high mineral content.
