IT’S TIME TO BUILD YOUR STORY The journey begins when you open the box. Find everything you need to build your story, and get ready to start building! Take all the bags of pieces out of the box—you’re almost ready to start building. Make sure you have your instructions handy! Pull the tab to take your American Girl mini figure out of the window. Let’s get organized! Take all the pieces out of the bags and lay them out where you can see them. Be careful not to lose any.
Meet McKenna! More than anything, Girl of the Year® McKenna Brooks loves gymnastics. At today’s meet, she’s competing in her favorite events— the uneven bars and the balance beam. On the uneven bars McKenna feels like a bird—soaring, stretching, and flying through the air. Before her beam routine, she takes a deep breath and visualizes her moves in her head. I can do this, she thinks.
McKenna’s not afraid to try new things. One day McKenna watches a rhythmic gymnast compete with a ball and hoop. The girl rolls and bounces the ball more gracefully than anyone McKenna has ever seen. Then she spins the hoop, tosses it in the air, and catches it behind her back, McKenna smiles. “That looks like fun!” she says.

8 1 Building TIP Counting is the key to making sure the high bar is straight. When you attach the poles to the mat, count the number of pink dots on each side of the base. Make sure they are equal on both sides of the mat.
