INSTALLATION, OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL
General
Airfix D diaphragm pressure expansion vessels are compliant
with EU Directive 97/23/EC. Certification is available at the
manufacturer.
Items included are one Airfix D (A), one Airfix TD T-piece (B),
the installation, operation and maintenance manual (C), and
an optional AirfixControl maintenance fitting (D).
Information on the manufacturer, year of construction and
other technical data is displayed on the product label.
Airfix D vessels are for use with potable water systems.
Airfix D vessels can also be used in pressurization systems.
When rinsing with additives (for instance for protection against
legionella), the vessel has to be cut off from the potable water
installation, for example by means of an AirfixControl.
Safety requirements
Install and operate Airfix D vessels only if the vessel is free
from visible damage.
In order to keep within the operating parameters, appropriate
safety accessories must be fitted.
Disregard of this manual may lead to defects in the vessel,
impairment of its function, personal injury or damage to
property. To ensure a constant pressure in the mains water
supply to the Airfix D, a pressure reducing valve must be fitted
upstream in the pipeline after the water meter.
First use
1. Shut off the water pipe (K) and remove pressure from the
water system.
2. Set the pre-charge of the expansion vessel 0.2 bar lower
than the set pressure of the pressure reducing valve (please
see the vessel label for the factory pre-charge):
- Remove the cap (L) and the plug (M).
- Measure the pressure (P).
- If the pressure is too high at the gas top-up valve (S), blow
off some gas. If the pressure is too low, top it up, e.g. with
a nitrogen canister.
3. Re-fit the plug (M) and the cap (L).
4. Re-open the water pipe.
5. Check the seals.
The installation must be carried out by approved personnel only.
Observe local regulations at all times.
Airfix D vessels 8 – 25 litres must be mounted hanging at the
water connection (F). If mounted to a wall, vessel support
MB 2 (G) is available as an accessory.
Airfix D 35 litre must be mounted to the suspension hook (H)
with the water connection (F) pointing downwards.
We recommend a combination with the AirfixControl
maintenance fitting (D) (available as an accessory).
1. Fit the Airfix TD T-piece (B) in the cold water feed pipe.
The direction of water flow has no influence on the Airfix
TD T-piece.
2. Apply synthetic tape (J) (Teflon) to the connection of the
Airfix D (and AirfixControl) (do not use hemp under any
circumstances!).
3. Optional: screw the AirfixControl maintenance fitting (D)
into the T piece.
4. Screw the Airfix D (or AirfixControl) into the T-piece.
Installation
Maintenance
The Airfix D must be checked annually. Should water escape
from the safety valve, proceed as follows:
Check the outward condition of the vessel for damage or
corrosion.
Check the gas pre-charge and, if necessary, set to the correct
pressure as follows:
- Shut off the water supply (K) or AirfixControl (D) and drain
the Airfix D.
Caution:
The water in the Airfix D may be hot!
- Set the pre-pressure => see under First use.
- Open the water supply to the Airfix D => see under
First use.
Environment
Dispose of the Airfix D in compliance with local
regulations.
Caution:
The water in the Airfix D may be hot!
1. Shut off the water supply (K) or AirfixControl (D) and drain
the Airfix D.
2. Remove the cap (L) and the plug (M).
3. Remove pressure (P) from the Airfix D at the gas top-up
valve (S).
4. Unscrew the Airfix D (A).
Caution:
be careful, the weight of the vessel may be greater
than expected, as it may be filled with water.
