5. Operation
Note:Beforeoperatingthedevice,youmustread,understand,andfollowallinstructions,dangers,

Note:Whenconnectingtheprobeleadstothedeviceundertest,connecttheCOM(negative)lead
beforeconnectingthepositivelead.Whenremovingtheprobeleads,removethepositivelead
beforeremovingtheCOM(negative)lead.
5.1PoweringtheMeter
1.Setthefunctionswitchtoanypositiontoswitchonthemeter.
2.Ifthebatteryindicator showsthatthebatteryvoltageisloworifthemeterdoesnotpower
on,replacethebattery.Seesection6.2BatteryReplacement.
5.1.1AutoPowerOff
Themeterenterssleepmodeafter30minutesofinactivity.Themeterbeepsthreetimes20
secondsbeforepoweringoff.PressanybuttonorturntheRotarySwitchtopreventthemeter
frompoweringoff.Theautopowerofftime‐outisthenreset.Todisableautopoweroff(APO)
presstheMODEbuttonwhileturningonthemeter.TochangetheAPOtime,readsection

Whenmeasuringvoltage,presstheMODEbuttontoselectACorDCvoltage.
5.3AutoRange
Auto‐Rangeistheonlymodeof operationforCapacitance;rangesareautomaticallyselectedby
themeter.InsulationandEarthBondResistancetestsallowforvoltagetestselectionusingthe
rotaryswitch.
5.4‘Smart’Out‐of‐RangeWarnings
Iftheinputisover/underthefull‐scalerange,thedisplaywillshow>xor<x,wherexisthehighor
lowendofthefull‐scalerange.
5.5DataHoldandAuto‐HoldModes
Thesetwomodesarediscussedindetailbelow.IntheSettingsmenu,ifAuto‐HoldissettoOFF,the
meterwilloperateinthestandardHoldmode.IfAuto‐HoldissettoONinthesettingsmenu,the
meterwilloperateintheAuto‐Holdmode.
5.5.1DataHoldMode
InDataHoldmode,presstheHOLDbuttontocapturethemeasurementthatisshownonthe
maindisplay.Thecapturedreadingwillbedisplayedinthesecondary,upperdisplayarea(the
maindisplaywillthenfunctionnormally).The‘H’displayiconwillappearsolidontheLCDin
theHoldmode.ToexittheHoldmode,presstheHOLDbuttonagain.
