STEP 2:
measure
Start your installation as close to the center of the room as possible. To find the center
of your room, follow these steps:
Locate your two longest, straightest walls.
Use the tape measure to find the center of each wall.
Measure a line from the center of each wall until the lines intersect. This will be the
center of the room. Mark the center.
Once you have identified the center of the room, snap a chalk line along the
horizontal or vertical line dividing your room in half. You will install half the room
before moving to the other half.
To snap a chalk line, grab a friend to help.
Pull the string across the room so it aligns with the marked center.
Once the string is lined up, pull the string taut and snap the string. This will leave a
straight line dividing your room in half.
Avoid stepping on the chalk line as chalk can transfer to your shoes, clothing and
carpet tiles.

TIP
When installing on finished
floors, skip the chalk line
altogether and use painter’s
tape instead.
