23 ways the Fluke 64 MAX
Infrared Thermometer can
save you energy and time
You might find it indispensable
Are you looking for a diagnostic tool that can save you money out
of the box? A tool that can help you troubleshoot malfunctioning
HVAC mechanical systems? One that is literally a “‘point and shoot
device? The Fluke 64 MAX Infrared (IR) Thermometer is just that
tool! In fact, once you begin to use it you might find it indispensable.
It has become the first tool out of my tool bag (I’m a senior HVAC
technician and troubleshooter). In just a few weeks of using my Fluke
64 MAX IR Thermometer I found a large number of ways it could
help me. Here are some of the ways.
APPLICATION NOTE
1. Capture the
measurements you need
even when you can’t be
there
The Fluke 64 MAX IR
Thermometer’s Auto Capture
feature allows a user to cap-
ture multiple measurements
unattended, when they are in
another area of the plant or in
the middle off the night after
they have gone off shift. Just
set the time to start the mea-
surements and the interval you
want to capture them. Then
place the 64 MAX on a standard
tripod with the tripod mount
(offered separately). Set it up
and walk away. Capture up to
99 measurements to help get to
the root problem faster.
2. Easy viewing even in
dark environments
The 64 MAX provides easy
viewing even in dark environ-
ments with its easy-to-read
backlit display and flashlight.
3. Internal memory
The 64 MAX IR Thermometer
has the convenience of internal
memory that captures up to 99
data point locations and holds
for later comparison to new
measurements.
4. Check discharge air
temperature
You can check the discharge air
temperature of an HVAC unit
with a ceiling discharge while
standing on the ground. Not
only is this safer than using a
ladder; the values can be used
to adjust the control system and
reduce energy waste. Many air
handling units produce a 55 °F
(12.7 °C) discharge temperature.
“Many possible high-impact uses of the
Fluke 64 MAX IR Thermometer exist,
in addition to the examples given here.
Usually when I get tothe job site, I just
start pointing and using the Fluke 64
MAX IR Thermometer right away!”
