Manual

Select the correct collet for the case to be trimmed (see the table on the back) and place it in
the collet screw. For a smooth operation, a very small amount of grease should be applied to
the front face and tapered portion of the collet before installing it in the collet screw. Turn the
collet screw containing the collet into the collet housing by hand until the collet touches the
housing without closing. Fasten this assembly to the base post with the 10-32 x 3/4” socket
head cap screw. Screw the threaded handle into the collet screw.
To line up your trimmer with the drill press spindle, place one end of the line-up bar in the
collet and lock it. The upper end of the line-up bar is then placed in the drill press chuck and
locked. The Power Case Trimmer is now accurately lined up and ready to be fastened to the
drill press table.
The hole in the base has a 3/8”-16 thread for attaching the base to drill press tables that have
a hole in the center. On drill presses without a center hole, the base can be fastened to a flat,
hardwood board and the board then held by C-Clamps. Either of these methods has proven
satisfactory in use.
Install the correct Pilot in the cutter holding it tightly against the edges of the cutter. With ten
-
sion on the collet released, insert the base of the cartridge case into the collet. Hold the car
-
tridge case against the shoulder of the collet with one hand and lock the collet with the other.
It is important that the base of the cartridge is firmly seated against the shoulder of the collet
in order to obtain consistent and accurate results.
The drill press spindle stop controls the depth of cut and should be set carefully in order to
trim the cases to proper length. Take a light trial cut and measure the length of the case. Sharp
corners are easily removed by using the Forster Inside-Outside Deburring Tool.
Powder residue can be removed from the primer pocket with the Forster Primer Pocket
Cleaner and Center. The Primer Pocket Cleaner is locked in the cutter in place of the Pilot. The
Center is locked in the collet. With the neck of the case over the Center, support the case with
one hand and guide the Cleaner into the primer pocket. A few revolutions will then remove
powder residue.
Primer pockets can be chamfered with the Forster Primer Pocket Chamfering Tool. This tool
will also remove most of the crimp from military cartridges. Use the same center that is used
for the Primer Pocket Cleaner.
All calibers can be hollowpointed with the Forster Universal Hollow Pointer Accessory, which
is made for all rifle and pistol cartridges in 1/16” or 1/8” size drills.
Neck reaming should be done
after the cases have been fired with a full load and before
the neck or full length sizing operation.
The Forster Neck Reamer is mounted in the cutter shaft
in place of the Pilot. Reamers are ground .002”-.003” larger than the maximum bullet diameter.
