BEFORE YOU BEGIN Thank you for selecting the revolutionary FREEMOTION® 510 REAR DRIVE elliptical. The 510 REAR DRIVE elliptical provides an impressive selection of features designed to make your workouts at home more effective and enjoyable. reading this manual, please see the front cover of this manual. To help us assist you, note the product model number and serial number before contacting us. The model number and the location of the serial number decal are shown on the front cover of this manual.
PART IDENTIFICATION CHART Use the drawings below to identify the small parts needed for assembly. The number in parentheses below each drawing is the key number of the part, from the PART LIST near the end of this manual. The number following the key number is the quantity needed for assembly. Note: If a part is not in the hardware kit, check to see if it has been preassembled. Extra parts may be included.
ASSEMBLY • Assembly requires two persons. In addition to the included tool(s), assembly requires the following tools: • Place all parts in a cleared area and remove the packing materials. Do not dispose of the packing materials until you finish all assembly steps. one Phillips screwdriver one rubber mallet • Left parts are marked “L” or “Left” and right parts are marked “R” or “Right.” Assembly may be easier if you have your own set of wrenches. To avoid damaging parts, do not use power tools.
2. Orient the Front Stabilizer (3) so that the indicated hole is facing the pin on the Main Frame (1). 2 While a second person lifts the front of the Main Frame (1), attach the Front Stabilizer (3) with two M10 x 95mm Screws (100). 100 3 Hole Pin 1 3. Orient the Upright (5) and the Top Cover (27) as shown. Slide the Top Cover (27) upward onto the Upright (5). Then, have a second person hold the Upright (5) and the Top Cover (27) near the Main Frame (1).
4. Tip: Avoid pinching the Main Wire (60). Insert the Upright (5) into the Main Frame (1). 4 60 Attach the Upright (5) with four M8 x 16mm Screws (102) and four M8 Split Washers (103); do not tighten the Screws yet. You will tighten the Screws at the end of step 11. Avoid pinching the Main Wire (60) 5 102 103 102 103 1 102 103 102 5. Using a small plastic bag to keep your fingers clean, apply a coat of the included grease to the Upright Axle (48) and to two Wave Washers (118).
6. Identify the Right Pedal (14), the Right Pedal Insert (117), and the Right Pedal Arm (12) and orient them as shown. Attach the Right Pedal (14) and the Right Pedal Insert (117) to the Right Pedal Plate (80) with four M6 x 12mm Screws (146). Tip: It may be helpful to lift the Right Pedal Plate. Attach the Left Pedal (not shown) and the Left Pedal Insert (not shown) to the Left Pedal Plate (not shown) in the same way. 6 14 117 80 12 146 7. Apply grease to the axle on the right Crank Arm (39).
8. See drawing 8a. Locate the Pedal Arm Roller (32) on the Right Pedal Arm (12). Set the Pedal Arm Roller (32) on the right side of the Ramp (130). See drawing 8b. Pull upward on the Latch (50) on the Right Pedal Arm (12). Press the Right Pedal Arm (12) onto the right Pedal Arm Sleeve (46). Make sure that the Right Pedal Arm latches into place. Repeat this step on the other side of the elliptical.
9. Orient the Ramp Cover (131) around the Upright (5) as shown. 9 Press the Mounts (not shown) on the underside of the Ramp Cover (131) into the Ramp (130). 5 131 130 10. Apply grease to a Link Arm Axle (114). Insert the Link Arm Axle (114) into the Right Upper Body Leg (6) and the Right Link Arm (43) from the side shown. Insert a hex key into the M8 x 35mm Screw (149) in the Link Arm Axle (114).
11. Identify the Right Upper Body Arm (8) and orient it as shown. Have a second person hold the Right Upper Body Arm (8) near the Right Upper Body Leg (6). Attach the Right Upper Body Arm (8) to the Right Upper Body Leg (6) with three M8 x 16mm Screws (102) and three M8 Split Washers (103). Attach the Left Upper Body Arm (9) to the Left Upper Body Leg (7) in the same way. See step 4 on page 8. Tighten the M8 x 16mm Screws (102).
. Note: If you purchase the optional chest heart rate monitor (see page 25), see step 17 on page 15 to install the receiver included with the heart rate monitor. Orient the Rear Upright Cover (25) as shown. Attach the Rear Upright Cover (25) to the Upright (5) with four M4 x 19mm Screws (125). 13 125 25 5 14. Untie and discard the wire tie attached to the Main Wire (60).
15. Orient the Front Upright Cover (24) as shown. 15 Attach the Front Upright Cover (24) around the Upright (5) by pressing the tabs on the Front Upright Cover into the Rear Upright Cover (25). 24 25 5 16. Make sure that all parts are properly tightened before you use the elliptical. Note: Extra parts may be included. Place a mat beneath the elliptical to protect the floor.
If you purchase the optional heart rate monitor (see page 25), follow the additional step below to install the receiver included with the heart rate monitor. 17. See steps 15, 14, and 13. Remove the Front Upright Cover (24), the Console (33), and the Rear Upright Cover (25) if necessary. 17 Remove the paper from the adhesive pad on the back of the Receiver (A). Press the Receiver onto the indicated location on the inside of the Rear Upright Cover (25) below the Accessory Tray (26).
HOW TO USE THE ELLIPTICAL HOW TO PLUG IN THE POWER CORD A temporary adapter may be used to connect the power cord to a 2-pole receptacle as shown at the right if a properly grounded outlet is not available. This product must be grounded. If it should malfunction or break down, grounding provides a path of least resistance for electric current to reduce the risk of electric shock. The power cord has a plug with a grounding pin.
HOW TO MOVE THE ELLIPTICAL Next, raise the pedal arms until the magnets on the pedal arms touch the handlebars; the magnets will hold the pedal arms in place. Then, hold the handle and lift the frame until it locks in a vertical position. To move the elliptical, first fold it as described on page 16. Next, stand in front of the elliptical, hold the upright, and place one foot against one of the wheels. Pull the upright until the elliptical rolls on the wheels.
HOW TO LEVEL THE ELLIPTICAL HOW TO EXERCISE ON THE ELLIPTICAL If the elliptical rocks slightly on your floor during use, turn one or both of the leveling feet beneath the rear stabilizer until the rocking motion is eliminated. To mount the elliptical, hold the upper body arms or the handlebars and step onto the pedal that is in the lowest position. Next, step onto the other pedal. Push the pedals until they begin to move with a continuous motion.
CONSOLE DIAGRAM FEATURES OF THE CONSOLE The console also features revolutionary iFit Live technology that enables the console to communicate with your wireless network through an optional iFit Live module. With the iFit Live mode, you can download personalized workouts, create your own workouts, track your workout results, race against other iFit Live users, and access many other features. HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER HOW TO USE THE MANUAL MODE IMPORTANT: If the elliptical has been exposed to cold temperatures, allow it to warm to room temperature before turning on the power. If you do not do this, you may damage the console displays or other electrical components. 1. Begin pedaling or press any button on the console to turn on the console. Plug in the power cord (see HOW TO PLUG IN THE POWER CORD on page 16). Next, locate the power switch on the frame near the power cord.
4. Follow your progress with the display. Stride—This display mode will show the total number of strides you have pedaled. The display can show the following workout information: Time—When the manual mode is selected, this display mode will show the elapsed time. When a workout is selected, this display mode will show the time remaining in the workout. The matrix offers several display tabs. Press the Display button until the desired tab is shown.
When a wireless iFit Live module is connected, the wireless symbol at the top of the display will show the strength of your wireless signal. Four arcs indicate full signal strength. When your pulse is detected, a heart symbol will flash in the display each time your heart beats, one or two dashes will appear, and then your heart rate will be shown. For the most accurate heart rate reading, hold the contacts for at least 15 seconds.
HOW TO USE AN ONBOARD WORKOUT At the end of each segment of the workout, a series of tones will sound and the next segment of the profile will begin to flash. If a different resistance level, ramp incline level, and/or target rpm is programmed for the next segment, the resistance level, ramp incline level, and/or target rpm will appear in the display for a few seconds to alert you. The resistance of the pedals and the incline level of the ramp will then change. 1.
HOW TO USE AN IFIT LIVE WORKOUT 5. Select an iFit Live workout. You must have an iFit Live module to use an iFit Live workout. To purchase an iFit Live module at any time, go to www.iFit.com or call the telephone number on the front cover of this manual. Press the iFit Live button to download the next workout in your schedule. Press the My Trainer button, the My Maps button, the World Tour button, or the Event Training button to download the next workout of that type in your schedule.
7. Follow your progress with the display. HOW TO USE THE SOUND SYSTEM See step 4 on page 21. To play music or audio books through the console sound system while you exercise, plug the included audio cable into the jack on the console and into a jack on your MP3 player or CD player; make sure that the audio cable is fully plugged in. The My Trail tab will show a map of the trail you are walking or running or it will show a track and the number of laps you complete.
HOW TO CHANGE CONSOLE SETTINGS If no module is connected, the display will show the words NO IFIT MODULE. If no module is connected, go to step 10. The console features a user mode that allows you to view usage information, select a unit of measurement, and adjust the contrast level of the display. 6. Select an audio setting for the voice of the personal trainer if desired.
MAINTENANCE AND TROUBLESHOOTING Inspect and tighten all parts of the elliptical regularly. Replace any worn parts immediately. Next, look into the access opening and locate the Reed Switch (69). Rotate the Large Pulley (74) until a Pulley Magnet (75) is aligned with the Reed Switch. To clean the elliptical, use a damp cloth and a small amount of mild soap. IMPORTANT: To avoid damage to the console, keep liquids away from the console and keep the console out of direct sunlight.
HOW TO ADJUST THE DRIVE BELT Loosen the Pivot Screw (97). Tighten the Belt Adjustment Screw (85) until the Drive Belt (38) is tight. When the Drive Belt is tight, tighten the Pivot Screw. If you can feel the pedals slip while you are pedaling, even when the resistance is adjusted to the highest level, the drive belt may need to be adjusted. 38 38 97 To adjust the drive belt, first unplug the power cord.
EXERCISE GUIDELINES Burning Fat—To burn fat effectively, you must exercise at a low intensity level for a sustained period of time. During the first few minutes of exercise, your body uses carbohydrate calories for energy. Only after the first few minutes of exercise does your body begin to use stored fat calories for energy. If your goal is to burn fat, adjust the intensity of your exercise until your heart rate is near the lowest number in your training zone.
SUGGESTED STRETCHES The correct form for several basic stretches is shown at the right. Move slowly as you stretch—never bounce. 1. Toe Touch Stretch 1 Stand with your knees bent slightly and slowly bend forward from your hips. Allow your back and shoulders to relax as you reach down toward your toes as far as possible. Hold for 15 counts, then relax. Repeat 3 times. Stretches: Hamstrings, back of knees and back. 2. Hamstring Stretch Sit with one leg extended.
