BEFORE YOU BEGIN Thank you for selecting the revolutionary NORDICTRACK® 890 INTERACTIVE treadmill. The 890 INTERACTIVE treadmill offers an impressive selection of features designed to make your workouts at home more effective and enjoyable. And when you’re not exercising, the unique treadmill can be folded up, requiring less than half the floor space of other treadmills. reading this manual, please see the front cover of this manual.
PART IDENTIFICATION CHART Use the drawings below to identify small parts used for assembly. The number in parentheses below each drawing is the key number of the part, from the PART LIST near the end of this manual. The number following the key number is the quantity used for assembly. Note: If a part is not in the hardware kit, check to see whether it is preattached. Extra parts may be included.
ASSEMBLY • Assembly requires two persons. • To identify small parts, see page 9. • Place all parts in a cleared area and remove the packing materials. Do not dispose of the packing materials until you finish all assembly steps. • Assembly requires the following tools: the included hex key • After shipping, there may be an oily substance on the exterior of the treadmill. This is normal. If there is an oily substance on the treadmill, wipe it off with a soft cloth and a mild, non-abrasive cleaner.
2. Make sure that the power cord is unplugged. 2 Remove the tie securing the Upright Wire (83) to the front of the Base (93). A 83 83 Next, identify the Right Upright (84). Have a second person hold the Right Upright near the Base (93). 84 See the inset drawing. Tie the wire tie (A) in the Right Upright (84) securely around the end of the Upright Wire (83). Then, insert the Upright Wire into the lower end of the Right Upright as you pull the other end of the wire tie through the Right Upright.
4. Hold the Right Upright (84) against the Base (93). Make sure not to pinch the Upright Wire (83). 4 23 Attach the Right Upright (84) with two 3/8" x 2 3/4" Screws (23), two 3/8" x 1 1/4" Screws (20), and four 3/8" Star Washers (21) as shown; do not fully tighten the Screws yet. 21 Attach the Left Upright (not shown) in the same way. Note: There are no wires on the left side. 23 21 83 93 21 84 20 21 20 5. Identify the Left and Right Upright Covers (89, 90).
6. Carefully slide the Upright Crossbar (76) between the Right and Left Uprights (84, 91). Attach the Upright Crossbar with four 5/16" x 3/4" Screws (1); start all four Screws, and then tighten them. 6 76 1 1 84 7. Hold the Tray (79) near the Right Upright (84). Next, locate the tie in the indicated hole (F) in the Upright. Wrap the tie around the end of the fan wire (G), and pull the fan wire into the hole and out of the top of the Upright. Then, remove the tie (A).
9. Set the console assembly (I) face down on a soft surface to avoid scratching the console assembly. 9 I Remove and discard the four indicated screws (J). Then, remove the Pulse Crossbar (80). J 80 J 10. IMPORTANT: To avoid damaging the Pulse Crossbar (80), do not use power tools, and do not overtighten the #10 x 3/4" Screws (6) or the 5/16" x 2" Screws (2). 10 2 6 8 Orient the Pulse Crossbar (80) as shown.
11. With the help of a second person, hold the console assembly (I) near the Handrails (74). 11 See the inset drawing. Connect the Upright Wire (83) to the console wire (K). The connectors should slide together easily and snap into place. If they do not, turn one connector and try again. IF YOU DO NOT CONNECT THE CONNECTORS PROPERLY, THE CONSOLE MAY BECOME DAMAGED WHEN YOU TURN ON THE POWER. I Next, connect the two fan wires (G, L).
14. Identify the #8 x 3/4" Truss Head Screws (24). IMPORTANT: Do not confuse the #8 x 3/4" Truss Head Screws with the #8 x 3/4" Screws (5). The #8 x 3/4" Truss Head Screws have flatter heads. 14 Set the Left Handrail Top Cover (73) on the left Handrail (74). Start four #8 x 3/4" Truss Head Screws (24) into the Left Handrail Bottom Cover (75), the left Handrail, and the Left Handrail Top Cover. Slide the Left Handrail Top and Bottom Covers forward against the console assembly (I) as shown.
16. Remove the 5/16" Nut (9) and the 5/16" x 2 1/4" Bolt (4) from the bracket on the Frame (52). 16 9 O 52 Align the upper end of the Storage Latch (56) with the bracket on the Frame (52). Insert a 5/16" x 2 1/4" Bolt (4) through the bracket and the Storage Latch. This will push a spacer (O) out of the other end; discard the spacer. 4 56 Next, tighten the 5/16" Nut (9) onto the 5/16" x 2 1/4" Bolt (4). Do not overtighten the Nut; the Storage Latch (56) must be able to pivot.
. Insert the wires and the coaxial cable (P) from the TV (97) through the hole (Q) in the TV Bracket (87) as shown. 18a 18b 97 115 87 See drawing 18b. Attach the TV Bracket (87) to the TV (97) with the four M4 x 12mm Screws (115) that you removed in step 17. R Then, remove and discard the two indicated screws (R). P Q 97 87 19. Attach the Upper TV Bracket Cover (88) to the TV Bracket (87) with two #8 x 3/4" Screws (5). 19 5 87 88 20. Remove and discard the four indicated screws (S).
21. Attach the TV assembly (T) to the console assembly (I) with the four 5/16" x 3/4" Screws (1) that you removed in step 20; start all four Screws, and then tighten them. Do not pinch the wires. 21 T Then, attach the Lower TV Bracket Cover (103) with four #8 x 3/4" Screws (5); start all four Screws, and then tighten them. Do not overtighten the Screws. I 1 5 22. Raise the Left Upright Cover (89), and connect the coaxial cable from your wall (or device) to the Upright Coaxial Cable (78).
23. Firmly tighten the four 3/8" x 2 3/4" Screws (23) and the four 3/8" x 1 1/4" Screws (20). 23 Next, slide and the Left and Right Upright Covers (89, 90) downward until they snap into place. 89 23 20 90 23 23 20 24. Make sure that all parts are properly tightened before you use the treadmill. If there are sheets of plastic on the treadmill decals, remove the plastic. To protect the floor or carpet, place a mat under the treadmill.
Before operating the TV, you must connect an antenna or a 75 ohm CATV cable to the 75 ohm terminal, an AV cable to the audio/video input jack, or an HDMI cable to the HDMI input jack. Note: Use a CATV cable to connect to an external source such as a cable box, satellite TV box, VCR, or analog cable. No CATV cable, antenna, or adapter; AV cable; or HDMI cable is included. HOW TO CONNECT AN ANTENNA Place an indoor VHF antenna or an outdoor combination VHF/UHF antenna in the desired location.
HOW TO CONNECT A VCR, DVD PLAYER, OR OTHER DEVICE USING AN AV CABLE HOW TO CONNECT A DVD OR BLU-RAY PLAYER OR OTHER DEVICE USING AN HDMI CABLE 1. Connect the three-pronged end of an RCA AV cable to your VCR, DVD player, or other device. 1. Connect one end of an HDMI cable to your DVD or Blu-ray player or other device. 2. Plug in the power cord of your device. See your VCR, DVD player, or other device’s user’s manual for proper grounding instructions. 2. Plug in the power cord of your device.
THE CHEST HEART RATE MONITOR HOW TO PUT ON THE HEART RATE MONITOR • Store the heart rate monitor in a warm, dry place. Do not store the heart rate monitor in a plastic bag or other container that may trap moisture. If the heart rate monitor looks like the one shown in drawing 1, press the transmitter (A) onto the snap fasteners on the chest strap (B). If the heart rate monitor looks like the one shown in drawing 2, insert the tab (C) on one end of the chest strap (D) into one end of the transmitter (E).
HOW TO USE THE TREADMILL HOW TO CONNECT THE POWER CORD more amps. To avoid overloading the circuit, do not plug other electrical devices, except for lowpower devices such as cell phone chargers, into the surge suppressor or into an outlet on the same circuit. IMPORTANT: If the treadmill is connected to an AFCI-equipped outlet and your circuit breaker trips repeatedly when the treadmill is used, see the front cover of this manual to purchase an arc filter.

With your new iFit-enabled fitness equipment, you can use an array of features on iFit.com to make your fitness goals a reality: When you use the manual mode, you can change the speed and incline of the treadmill with the touch of a button.
HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER HOW TO USE THE TOUCH SCREEN IMPORTANT: If the treadmill has been exposed to cold temperatures, allow it to warm to room temperature before you turn on the power. If you do not do this, you may damage the console displays or other electrical components. The console features a tablet with a full-color touch screen. The following information will help you become familiar with the tablet’s advanced technology: Plug in the power cord (see page 24).
HOW TO SET UP THE CONSOLE To use the manual mode, see page 27. To use an onboard workout, see page 29. To use a set-a-goal workout, see page 30. To use an iFit workout, see page 31. Before using the treadmill for the first time, set up the console. 1. Connect to your wireless network. To use the equipment settings mode, see page 32. To use the sound system, see page 34. To use the Internet browser, see page 34. To use the maintenance mode, see page 34. To use the wireless network mode, see page 35.
3. Start the walking belt and adjust the speed. 5. Monitor your progress with the displays. Touch the Start button on the screen or press the Start button on the console to start the walking belt. You can also press the Manual button on the console, and then touch the Resume button on the screen. The walking belt will begin to move at 1 mph. As you exercise, change the speed of the walking belt as desired by pressing the Speed increase and decrease buttons.
6. Measure your heart rate if desired. 8. When you are finished exercising, remove the key from the console. Note: If you use the handgrip heart rate monitor and the chest heart rate monitor at Contacts the same time, the console will not display your heart rate accurately. For information about the chest heart rate monitor, see page 23. Step onto the walking platform and touch the home button or the back button on the screen or press the Stop button on the console.
3. Start the workout. Note: The calorie goal is an estimate of the number of calories that you will burn during the workout. The actual number of calories that you burn will depend on various factors such as your weight. In addition, if you manually change the speed or incline of the treadmill during the workout, the number of calories you burn will be affected. Touch the Start Workout button to start the workout. A moment after you touch the button, the walking belt will begin to move.
To select a calorie, time, distance, or pace goal, touch the Calories, Time, Distance, or Pace button. Then, touch the increase and decrease buttons on the screen to set a calorie, time, distance, or pace goal and to set the speed and incline for the workout. The screen will show the duration and distance of the workout, and the approximate number of calories you will burn during the workout. 7. Turn on the fan if desired. See step 7 on page 29. 8.
To compete in a race that you have previously scheduled, touch the Compete button. To view your Workout History, touch the Track button. To use a set-a-goal workout, touch the Set A Goal button (see page 30). Note: You can also press one of the iFit buttons on the console. 9. 6. Select an update time. You can disable the key so that the treadmill does not require the use of the key, if desired. Touch the Safety Key button. To disable the key, touch the Disable checkbox. CAUTION: Read the safety warning on the screen before disabling the key. To enable the key again, touch the Enable checkbox. To select a time for automatic console updates, touch the Update Time button and select the desired time. Then, touch the back button on the screen.
HOW TO USE THE SOUND SYSTEM To enter a different web address in the URL bar, first, slide your finger down the screen to view the URL bar, if necessary. Then, touch the URL bar, use the keyboard to enter the address, and touch the Go button. To play music or audio books through the console sound system while you exercise, plug a 3.5 mm male to 3.
HOW TO USE THE WIRELESS NETWORK MODE Note: Occasionally, a firmware update may cause your console to function slightly differently. These updates are always designed to improve your exercise experience. The console features a wireless network mode that allows you to set up a wireless network connection. 1. Select the settings main menu. 4. Calibrate the incline system of the treadmill. See step 1 on page 32. Touch the Calibrate Incline button.
To use the keyboard, see HOW TO USE THE TOUCH SCREEN on page 26. 3. Select the desired channel. To select the desired cable channel, press the Chan increase and decrease buttons or the Key Pad button. Note: If you press the Key Pad button, a ten-number button pad will appear on the console screen. Touch the numbers for the desired cable channel. When the console is connected to your wireless network, the WiFi menu option at the top of the screen will display the word CONNECTED.
HOW TO USE THE ENTERTAINMENT MODE Press the numbered channel buttons and the dash button (–) or the Channel (CH) increase or decrease button to select a channel. The console features an entertainment mode that allows you to access an on-screen remote control. Press the return button ( channel. 1. Access the settings main menu. HOW TO REPLACE THE BATTERIES IN THE REMOTE CONTROL 2. Adjust the image settings. The Picture menu offers numerous features for adjusting the TV display. Use the arrow buttons to navigate through the various settings and personalize the image settings. To replace the batteries, first locate the battery cover on the back of the remote control. Push down on the clip on the battery cover and pull off the battery cover. 3. Adjust the audio settings.
5. Adjust the parental control settings. 7. Adjust the advanced television settings. The Parental menu allows you to block or allow various settings on the TV. The Others menu offers several advanced television settings. You can also restore the original television settings. First, enter the Lock Parental Code password, which is a 4-digit PIN. Note: The default password is 0000. Once the password has been entered, the Parental menu will be unlocked.
HOW TO FOLD AND MOVE THE TREADMILL HOW TO FOLD THE TREADMILL HOW TO MOVE THE TREADMILL To avoid damaging the treadmill, adjust the incline to zero before you fold the treadmill. Then, remove the key and unplug the power cord. CAUTION: You must be able to safely lift 45 lbs. (20 kg) to raise, lower, or move the treadmill. Before moving the treadmill, fold it as described at the left. CAUTION: Make sure that the storage latch is locked in the storage position. Moving the treadmill may require two people.
MAINTENANCE AND TROUBLESHOOTING MAINTENANCE c. Check the power switch located on the treadmill frame near the power cord. If the switch protrudes as shown, the switch has tripped. To reset the power switch, wait for five minutes and then press the switch back in. Regular maintenance is important for optimal performance and to reduce wear. Inspect and properly tighten all parts each time the treadmill is used. Regularly clean the treadmill and keep the walking belt clean and dry.

SYMPTOM: The incline of the treadmill does not change correctly • Blue Screen—If your fitness equipment is located in the fringe area of a TV station where the signal is weak, the picture may be of poor quality or a blue screen may appear. If the signal is weak, it may be necessary to install an external antenna to improve the picture. a. Calibrate the incline system (see step 4 on page 35).
EXERCISE GUIDELINES Burning Fat—To burn fat effectively, you must exercise at a low intensity level for a sustained period of time. During the first few minutes of exercise, your body uses carbohydrate calories for energy. Only after the first few minutes of exercise does your body begin to use stored fat calories for energy. If your goal is to burn fat, adjust the intensity of your exercise until your heart rate is near the lowest number in your training zone.
