Baud Rate
This setting is the communication rate between the transceiver and the instrument to which it is
connected. It is important to note that this is independent of the baud rate for the other transceiver(s) in
the network. For example, a pair of transceivers may be used in an application to send data from remote
process instrumentation to an engineer's computer. In this application, the baud rate for the transceiver
on the instrumentation might be set to 9600, and the transceiver on the engineer’s computer might be set
to 57,600.
Set Baud Rate
1. Selecting 1 Set Baud Rate from the Main Menu displays the following window.
2. Select the appropriate baud rate or option by typing in the associated number or letter after Enter
Choice. As this is the baud rate for the data port, it must match the baud rate of the device
attached to the transceiver.
3. When the selection is accepted, the Set Baud Rate menu will refresh and display the updated
mode.
4. Press the Esc key to return to the main Setup menu.
Note: The Setup Baud Rate will ALWAYS default to 19,200 Baud no matter what the data port Baud
Rate is set to. The only exception would be Mode 6, see Application Note LAN5476xx Mode 6
for more information about Mode 6.
Note: With a Baud Rate setting of 38400 or higher, it is recommended that the Flow Control lines be
used. See the RS-232 Pin Assignments and RF Board Level Pinout sections later in the manual
for more information.
