1 Getting Ready LOADING THE BATTERIES AND THE MEDIA Compatible batteries h AA-size alkaline batteries (2), Rechargeable Battery NH-10 (sold separately), or AA-size Ni-MH batteries (sold separately) (2). 2 Using the Camera BASIC OPERATION GUIDE You’ve read the chapter on getting ready and the camera is now set up and ready to take pictures. “Using the Camera” describes the basic camera operations of “Taking Pictures”, then “Viewing Images” and “Erasing Images”. This section describes the camera’s functions. 0 Changing modes Turn the Mode switch to change modes. Still photography mode: Still image shooting. Playback mode: Photographed image playback. Movie mode: Movie recording.
STILL PHOTOGRAPHY MODE 1 01 2 0 SHOOTING STILL IMAGES (a AUTO MODE) 1 Turn the Mode switch to “q”. 2 Open the lens cover. 3 Slide the “POWER” switch sideways to switch the camera on. 4 To zoom in on your subject, press Zoom switch “a” ([ telephoto). To zoom out, press “b” (] wideangle). A “zoom bar” appears on the LCD monitor to zoom in or out. h Focus distance: Approx. 80 cm (2.6 ft.) to infinity A 1M ３３ 3 0 ! For subjects closer than 80 cm (2.6 ft.), use Macro photography ● Zoom bar (➡P.27).
STILL PHOTOGRAPHY MODE SHOOTING STILL IMAGES (a AUTO MODE) Press the Shutter button down halfway. Focusing is complete when the AF frame on the LCD monitor shrinks and the viewfinder lamp (green) stops blinking and remains lit. 7 NUMBER OF AVAILABLE FRAMES The number of available frames in this card is displayed on the screen. ! If “{” appears on the LCD monitor, the camera cannot focus. ● ! Pressing the shutter button down halfway, the image on the ● LCD monitor freezes briefly.
STILL PHOTOGRAPHY MODE SHOOTING STILL IMAGES (a AUTO MODE) USING THE ZOOM (OPTICAL ZOOM/DIGITAL ZOOM) USING AF/AE LOCK 1 1M A ３３ In a shot with this type of composition, the subjects (two people in this case) are not in the AF frame. If the shot is taken at this point, the subjects will not be in focus. Zoom in and out by pressing “a ([)” and “b (])” respectively. When zooming switches between optical and digital, the “ ■ ” indicator stops.

The “e” appears on the LCD monitor indicating that you can take close-up shots. To cancel Macro mode, press the “e ” Macro button again. h Focus distance Approx. 0.1 m to 1.0 m (3.9 in to 3.
STILL PHOTOGRAPHY MODE e MACRO (CLOSE-UP) PHOTOGRAPHY/d FLASH b Red-Eye Reduction Use this mode to ensure that the subject’s eyes appear natural when photographing people in low-light conditions. The flash fires a pre-flash just before the picture is taken and then fires again to take the actual picture. The flash fires automatically as required by the shooting conditions. The self timer is used in situations such as group shots where the photographer is included in the shot. Setting the self-timer to “ON”, “*” appears on the LCD monitor.
STILL PHOTOGRAPHY MENU PHOTOGRAPHY MENU MOVIE MODE D EV (EXPOSURE COMPENSATION) This mode can be selected in the “s” photography mode. Use the Brightness setting to obtain the correct brightness (exposure) when the subject is much brighter or darker than the background. Card. ! See P.77,79 for the available recording time with xD-Picture Cards. ● ! You cannot switch the LCD monitor off in this mode.
MOVIE MODE 4 r SHOOTING MOVIES MOVIE MENU Press the Shutter button down fully to start shooting. ! For better image quality, select “ $ ”, and for longer photography time, select “#”.

Movies ● cannot be played back using multi-frame playback. Press the “DISP” button to select single-frame playback. Note that mistakenly erased frames (files) cannot be recovered.
PLAYBACK MENU o ERASING SINGLE/ALL FRAMES FRAME 1 0 2 0 PLAYBACK MENU u DPOF SET FRAME HOW TO SPECIFY PRINT OPTIONS (DPOF) 1 Press “d” or “c” to select the frame (file) to be erased. 2 Press the “MENU/OK” button to erase the currently displayed frame (file). To erase another image, repeat steps 1 and 2. When you have finished erasing images, press the “BACK” button.
PLAYBACK MENU 3 01 u DPOF SET FRAME 1 Press “a ” or “b ” to select “WITH DATE” or “WITHOUT DATE”. By selecting the “WITH DATE”, the date is imprinted on your prints. 2 Press the “MENU/OK” button. 2 0 RESET ALL 1 01 2 0 1 Turn the Mode switch to “w”. 2 Press the “MENU/OK” button. ! By selecting the “WITH DATE” setting, you can have the date ● imprinted on your shots when you use the Print Service or a DPOF-compatible printer.
PLAYBACK MENU 1 01 i PROTECTING IMAGES: FRAME/SET ALL/RESET ALL 2 0 1 Turn the Mode switch to “w”. 2 Press the “MENU/OK” button to display the menu screen. FRAME RESET 1 Press “d” or “c” to select the protected frame (file). 2 Press the “MENU/OK” button to unprotect the displayed frame (file). Protection is a setting that prevents frames (files) from being accidentally erased. However, the “FORMAT” function erases all the frames (files), including protected frames (files) (➡P.48).

The Power Save function does not operate during playback. ● ! Movie starts automatically. When the preview movie or movie ● ends, playback moves on to the next frame.
SET-UP ■ SET-UP Menu Options Settings Display POWER SAVE SETTING Default setting Explanation IMAGE DISP. ON/OFF ON This option specifies whether or not an image checking screen (photography results) is displayed after you take a shot. The photographed image is displayed for a few moments and then automatically recorded. POWER SAVE ON/OFF ON This option allows you to specify whether the LCD monitor switches off to conserve power if the camera is not used for 30 seconds. See P.47 for details.
5 Software Installation SET-UP FORMAT Formatting erases all the frames (files). Initialize the xD-Picture Card for use in the camera. Copy important files onto your computer or another media. 1 Press “d” or “c” to select “OK”. 2 Press the “MENU/OK” button to erase all the files and format the xD-Picture Card. Formatting erases protected files also. ! If ● the “ å ” “ ˚ ” “ ƒ ” or ” message appears before formatting “ the media, refer to P.72 and take the appropriate measures. © 5.

5.3 INSTALLATION ON A Mac OS 8.6 TO 9.2 10 Install QuickTime as directed by the on-screen instructions and then restart your Macintosh. 5.4 INSTALLATION ON A Mac OS X Pre-installation Checklist ■ Hardware and software requirements If you have already installed QuickTime version 5.0.2 or later, this installation is not performed. Click [Agree] button in the “License” window. To run this software, you must have the hardware and software described below.
5.4 INSTALLATION ON A Mac OS X FinePixViewer and RAW FILE CONVERTER LE are installed on Mac OS X. ! AVI movies cannot be played back on version 10.0.4. ● 1 2 Switch your Macintosh on and start up Mac OS X. Do not launch any other applications. 8 9 Click the [Continue] button in the “Software License Agreement” window. 10 11 12 Click the [Install (upgrade)] button. Select the Mac OS X startup disk as the installation destination and click the [Continue] button.
6 Viewing Images 6.1 CAMERA CONNECTION 6.1.1 Using the optional AC Power adapter It is recommended that you use the AC Power Adapter AC-3V (sold separately) or the AC Power Adapter AC-3VW bundled with the cradle (sold separately) for the connection. Constant power supply will prevent unsuccessful data transfer caused by an interrupted power supply. Use only the FUJIFILM “AC Power Adapter AC-3V” or the “AC Power Adapter AC-3VW” bundled with the PictureCradle CP-FXA10 (➡P.67).
6.1 CAMERA CONNECTION a computer 3 Set Windows 98/98 SE/Me/2000 Professional/Macintosh Use at DSC mode 1 Set a camera 1 0 1 Insert an xD-Picture Card containing photographed images into your camera. Plug the AC power adapter connector into the DC IN 3V socket on the camera and then plug the adapter itself into the main power outlet. 2 Slide the power switch to the side to turn the camera on. 3 Set the “USB MODE” setting in the “SET-UP” menu to “¶” (➡P.46).
6.2 USING FinePixViewer 6.1 CAMERA CONNECTION 6.1.4 Disconnecting the Camera 1 6.2.1 Mastering FinePixViewer 1 Quit all applications (FinePixViewer etc.) that are using the camera. 2 Check that the viewfinder lamp is lit green or that the self-timer lamp is off (no data is being exchanged with the computer). For a DSC connection, proceed to step 2. For a PC CAMERA connection, proceed to step 3.
6.2 USING FinePixViewer 7 When the confirmation message appears, click the [OK] button. Check your selection carefully since the process cannot be cancelled once you click [OK]. i Automatic uninstallation begins. When uninstallation ends, click the [OK] button. Explanation of Terms Safety Notes Deactivated batteries: Leaving an Ni-MH battery unused in storage for a long period may cause a rise in the level of substances that inhibit current flow inside the battery and result in a dormant battery. A battery in this state is referred to as deactivated. Because current flow is inhibited in a deactivated Ni-MH battery, the battery's original level of performance cannot be achieved.
Safety Notes WARNING Do not heat, modify or attempt to disassemble the batteries. Do not drop or subject the batteries to impacts. Do not attempt to recharge lithium or alkaline batteries. Do not store the batteries with metallic products. Do not use chargers other than the specified model to charge the batteries.
