SETTING THE DATE AND TIME After purchasing the camera, first time when you turn camera on, the date and time are cleared. STILL PHOTOGRAPHY MODE TAKING PICTURES (a AUTO MODE) USING VIEWFINDER To take pictures using the viewfinder, press the “DISP/BACK” button to turn the LCD monitor off (Turning the LCD monitor off conserves battery power). 1 ! The ● viewfinder cannot be used to take pictures in Macro mode. Brace your elbows against your sides and hold the camera with both hands. Position of your right thumb so that it is handy for using the zoom.
NUMBER OF AVAILABLE FRAMES Ｎ The number of available frames appears on the LCD monitor. ２０ ! See P.29 for information on changing the quality setting. ● ! The default quality “y” set at shipment is “3 N” (FinePix ● A330),“4 N” (FinePix A340). ■ Standard number of frames per xD-Picture Card The table below shows the standard number of frames for a new xD-Picture Card formatted on the camera.
STILL PHOTOGRAPHY MODE TAKING PICTURES (a AUTO MODE) USING AF/AE LOCK 1 Ｎ ２０ In this shot, the subjects (two people in this case) are not in the AF frame. Taking the picture at this point will result in the subjects being out of focus. 2 Ｎ ２０ Move the camera slightly so that one of the subjects is in the AF frame. 3 Bebeep Press the Shutter button down halfway (AF/AE lock).
USING THE ZOOM (OPTICAL ZOOM/DIGITAL ZOOM) Press the “a ([)” or “b (])” switch to zoom in or out. The digital zoom can be used with the “2” and “1” quality mode setting. When zooming changes between optical and digital, the “■” indicator stops. Press the same Zoom switch again to start the “■” indicator moving again. ! The digital zoom cannot be used with the “3 ” (FinePix ● A330), “4” (FinePix A340) setting. ! See P.29 for information on changing the quality mode.
PLAYBACK MODE VIEWING YOUR IMAGES (PLAYBACK) 1 0 2 0 Single-frame playback 1 Press the “Playback” button for approx. 1 seconds to change to Playback mode. 2 Press “c” to scan forward through your images and Press “d” to scan backwards. ! When ● the camera is set to Playback mode, the last image shot appears on the LCD monitor. ! If the lens is extended during playback, the lens automatically ● retracts as a protective measure if the camera is not used for approx. 6 seconds.
Playback zoom Press the “a ([)” or “b (])” switch during singleframe playback to zoom in (enlarges) or out on a still image. A zoom bar appears. PLAYBACK MENU u DPOF SET FRAME HOW TO SPECIFY PRINT OPTIONS (DPOF) DPOF stands for Digital Print Order Format and refers to a format that is used for recording printing specifications for images shot using a digital camera on media such as an xD-Picture Card. The recorded specifications include information on which frames are to be printed. This section gives a detailed description of how to order your prints with the FinePix A330/FinePix A340.

If the camera remains unused for an additional interval (2 minutes or 5 minutes), it is turned off. Use this function when you want to get the maximum possible running time from your batteries.
TIME DIFFERENCE (TIME DIFFERENCE SETTING) This function sets a time difference relative to the date and time currently set. When this setting is enabled, the specified time difference is applied when pictures are taken. Use this function when traveling to destinations in different time zones. Press “d” or “c” to change between “™ HOME” and “£ LOCAL”. To set the time difference, select “£ LOCAL”.

5 Software Installation 5.1 INSTALLATION ON A Windows PC Pre-installation checklist To run this software, you must have the hardware and software described below. Check your system before you begin the installation.
5.1 INSTALLATION ON A Windows PC Do not connect the camera to your PC until the software installation is completed. 1 Install FinePixViewer as instructed in the Quick start guide. ◆ Launching the installer manually ◆ 1 Double-click the “My Computer” icon. ✽ Windows XP users should click “My Computer” in the “Start” menu. 2 Right-click “FINEPIX” (CD-ROM drive) in the “My Computer” window and select “Open”. 3 Double-click “SETUP” or “SETUP.exe” in the CD-ROM window.

6 Viewing Images 6.1 CAMERA CONNECTION 6.1.1 Using the optional AC Power adapter Always use only the FUJIFILM “AC Power Adapter AC-3V” or the “AC Power Adapter AC-3VW” bundled with the PictureCradle CP-FXA10 (➡P.73). Use the AC power adapter to avoid losing power at inconvenient times, such as when you are downloading photographed images to your computer. You can take pictures and play back images without worrying about depleting the batteries. ! See P.75 for notes on using the AC power adapter.
6.2 CONNECTING THE CAMERA DIRECTLY TO THE PRINTER FOR PRINTING IMAGES (PictBridge FUNCTION) If a printer that supports PictBridge is available, images can be printed by connecting the camera directly to the PictBridge-compatible printer without using a computer. 6.2.1 Specifying images for printing on the camera 1 Set to “¢ ” in the “USB MODE” setting in the “SET-UP” menu (➡P.48).

6.3 CONNECTING TO A COMPUTER 6.3.1 Connecting to a Computer The “Connecting to a Computer” section explains how to connect the camera to your computer using the USB cable (included) and describes the functions you can use once the camera and computer are connected. If the power cuts out during data transmission, the data will not be transmitted correctly. Always use the AC power adapter when connecting the camera to a computer. Refer to Section 5 the first time you connect the camera to your computer.
6.3 CONNECTING TO A COMPUTER USE AT DSC MODE 1 Set a camera 1 0 1 Insert an xD-Picture Card into your camera. Explanation of Terms Deactivated batteries: Leaving an Ni-MH battery unused in storage for a long period may cause a rise in the level of substances that inhibit current flow inside the battery and result in a dormant battery. A battery in this state is referred to as deactivated. Because current flow is inhibited in a deactivated Ni-MH battery, the battery’s original level of performance cannot be achieved.
