1 Getting Ready LOADING THE BATTERY AND THE MEDIA Compatible Batteries Use only the special Rechargeable Battery NP-40. The use of other brands of rechargeable battery could cause faults or damage to the camera. 4 Close the battery cover. h Rechargeable Battery NP-40 (1) ! CHECKING THE REMAINING BATTERY CHARGE Switch the camera on and check whether one of the battery level warnings (X, C or V) is displayed on the LCD monitor. If nothing is displayed, the battery has sufficient charge. Lit white 2 Lit white 3 Lit red 4 Blinking red 1 1 There is ample remaining battery charge. SWITCHING ON AND OFF/SETTING THE DATE AND TIME Slide the Power switch to turn the camera on and off. Because these actions involve precision mechanisms, you should take care not to obstruct the lens with your hand or fingers.
SELECTING THE LANGUAGE 1 01 03 SETTING UP AND USING THE FinePix F610 CRADLE CP-FX610 1 Press the “MENU/OK” button to display the menu screen. 2 Press “a”, “b”, “d” or “c” to select “SET–UP” from the “F” OPTION menu. 3 Press the “MENU/OK” button. 2 0 Just by putting the camera in the cradle, you can ensure that your camera is always charged. The cradle will also automatically launch the “FinePixViewer” image viewing software when you switch the cradle on.

2 Using the Camera BASIC OPERATION GUIDE You’ve read the chapter on getting ready and the camera is now set up and ready to take pictures. “Using the Camera” describes the basic camera operations of “Taking Pictures”, then “Viewing Images” and “Erasing Images”. 0 g button Photography: Changes the page on the display panel. Playback: Change frame. This section describes the camera’s functions. 0 Photography mode selector You can select the photography mode by turning the Mode dial.

STILL PHOTOGRAPHY MODE SHOOTING STILL IMAGES (B AUTO MODE) USING THE VIEWFINDER TO TAKE PICTURES H FOCUSING MODE To take pictures using the viewfinder, press the “DISP” button to switch the LCD monitor off (Switching the LCD monitor off conserves power). 1 AUTO 1M OFF A This mode can only be selected in “ B ” photography mode for shots taken using the LCD monitor. Each time the “T” button is pressed, the focusing mode switches between “I ” (AF (MULTI)) and “O” (AF (CENTER)).
STILL PHOTOGRAPHY MODE SHOOTING STILL IMAGES (B AUTO MODE) USING THE ZOOM (OPTICAL ZOOM/DIGITAL ZOOM) USING AF/AE LOCK In shots composed in this way, the camera may be unable to focus on the subject (the 2 women in this case). Set the focusing mode (➡P.25) to “O” (AF (CENTER)). 1 Press “a” or “b” to zoom in or out. The digital zoom can be used with the “5”, “3”, “2” and “1” quality mode setting. When zooming switches between optical and digital, the “■” indicator stops.
PLAYBACK MODE 1 0 VIEWING YOUR IMAGES (w PLAYBACK) 2 0 Single-frame Playback 1 Set the Power switch to “w”. 2 Press “c” to scan forward through your images and “d” to scan backwards. ! When ● you set the Power switch to “w ”, your last shot is played back. ! If the lens is extended during playback, the lens automatically ● retracts as a protective measure if the camera is not used for approx. 6 seconds.
PLAYBACK MODE VIEWING YOUR IMAGES (w PLAYBACK) Trimming After playback zoom has been used to adjust the area to be viewed, the image can be saved as a separate file. 1 1 01 1 Set the Power switch to “w”. 2 Press “d” or “c” to select the frame (file) to be erased. 2 0 Mistakenly erased frames (files) cannot be recovered. Take care when erasing frames (files). Copy important frames (files) that should not be erased to a PC’s hard disk, etc. Use playback zoom to adjust the area to be viewed (➡P.29).

When you set the self-timer to ON, “*” appears on the LCD monitor. SELF−TIMER *: The shot is taken after 10 seconds. (: The shot is taken after 2 seconds. OFF WB AUTO ! The ● self-timer function is automatically cancelled in the following situations.

However, “FORMAT” erases all images, regardless of a “SET ALL” setting (➡P.74). Mistakenly erased frames (files) cannot be recovered. Take care when erasing frames (files).
PLAYBACK MENU i PROTECTING AND UNPROTECTING ALL FRAMES RESET ALL Press the “MENU/OK” button to unprotect all the frames (files). p PHOTO MODE PLAYBACK u HOW TO SPECIFY PRINT OPTIONS (DPOF) DPOF stands for Digital Print Order Format and refers to a format that is used for recording printing specifications for images shot using a digital camera on media such as an xDPicture Card. 5 Software Installation SET–UP FORMAT (media initialization) All the frames (files) are erased. The xD-Picture Card is initialized for use in the camera. You should copy important frames (files) that you do not want to be erased to your computer or other media. 1 Press “d” or “c” to select “OK”. 2 Pressing the “MENU/OK” button erases all the frames (files) and initializes the xD-Picture Card. Protected frames (files) are also erased.

6 Viewing Images 6.1 CAMERA CONNECTION 6.1.1 Connecting to a TV 1 DC IN 5V (power input)socket USE AT DSC MODE Turn off the camera and TV. Open the connector cover for the camera’s A/V OUT (audio-visual output) socket. Then plug the included A/V cable (provided with the camera) into the A/V OUT (audio/visual output) socket. 1 Set a camera 1 0 1 Insert an xD-Picture Card containing photographed images into your camera.

6.2 USING FinePixViewer 6.1 CAMERA CONNECTION 6.1.3 Disconnecting the Camera 1 2 6.2.1 Mastering FinePixViewer Quit all applications (FinePixViewer etc.) that are using the camera. For a DSC connection, proceed to step 2. For a PC CAMERA connection, proceed to step 3. Perform the steps shown below before you turn the camera off. This procedure differs depending on the operating system software (or PC) you are using.
6.2 USING FinePixViewer 7 When the confirmation message appears, click the [OK] button. Check your selection carefully since the process cannot be cancelled once you click the [OK] button. System Expansion Options eBy using the FinePix F610 together with other optional FUJIFILM products, your system can be expanded to fill a wide range of uses. ■ Image input/output to the PC ( USB ) PictureCradle CP-FX610 i Automatic uninstallation begins. When uninstallation ends, click the [OK] button.

Explanation of Terms Safety Notes AF/AE Lock: On the FinePix F610, pressing the shutter button down half way locks the focus and exposure settings (AF and AE lock). If you want to focus on a subject that is not centered in the frame or change the picture composition after the exposure is set, you can obtain good results by changing the composition after the AF and AE settings are locked.
WARNING Do not heat, modify or attempt to disassemble the battery. Do not drop or subject the battery to impacts. Do not attempt to recharge lithium or alkaline batteries. Do not store the batteries with metallic products. Do not use chargers other than the specified model to charge the battery. Any of these actions can cause the battery to burst or leak and cause fire or injury as a result. Use only the battery or AC power adapters specified for use with this camera.
