DVDs offer the latest in optical disc storage technology and
reliably store an enormous amount of data - 4.7GB single
sided - over 7 times that of a CD-R and 3,350 times the data
stored on a floppy disk.
Fujifilm has complied this step-by-step guide to help you
choose the right DVD for your drive and ensure that you
care for them correctly.
Step 1: Choosing the right DVD format
DVDs, like CDs are available in two forms - write once (R)
and re-writable (RW).
A write once format DVD can have information burned to it
only once, the data is then indelible and cannot be altered or
changed in any way. However, a re-writable DVD can be
edited and changed as many times as you like. DVD-R for
example is perfect for recording movies whereas data requir-
ing regular updates is best saved on a DVD-RW.
Additionally, a DVD-RAM format disc is, by nature, re-writable.
Fujifilm's DVD+RW can be re-
recorded over 1,000 times
Step 2: Write-once or Re-writable?
A question often asked is what is the difference between
the various DVD formats: -plus, minus and RAM?
The simple answer is that essentially, each is a recordable/
re-writable variation of the DVD format. Each is backed by a
group of major electronics manufacturers. The three formats
are incompatible with one another and the blank discs are not
interchangeable**.
The type of disc you should use will depend upon which DVD
reader or writer you use. The guide at the back should help
you choose the right DVD format for your drive.
