Important notes
Before you travel
Back up important dat a stored on your hard disk.

Switch off the radio c ompon ent for data security reasons. With data trafc via a wireless
connection, it is also possible for unauthorised third parties to receive data.
Information on activating data encryption is provided in the documentation
for your radio component.
If you wish to use your notebook during a ight, rst check with the ight
attendants if it i s OK to do so.
When travelling in other countries
If you are travelling abroad, check that the ma ins adapter can be operated with the
local m ains voltage. If this is not the case, obtain the appropriate mains adapter for
your notebook. Do not use any other voltage converter!
Check whether the local power supply and the s pecications of the power cable are compatible.
If this is not the case, buy a power cable that matches the local conditions. Do no t use
a connection adapter for electrical devices to connect the notebook.
Enquire with the corresponding g overnment ofce of the country you will be
travelling in as to w hethe r you may operate the radio component integrated in you r
notebook there (see also "
CE markin g", Page 57).
If you are planning to use a modem, please b e aware that it may not necessarily be compatible
with the local telephone system. This may result in poor perfo rmance, or the modem may not work
at all. You may require a country-specic telephone adapter (available as an optional accessory).
Transporting the Notebook
Remove all disks (e.g. CD, DVD) from the drives.

Switch the notebook off.
Unplug the mains adapter and all external devices from the power socket.
Disconnect the mains adapter c
able and the data cables for all external devices.
Close the LCD screen so that it locks into place.

Protect the notebook from severe shocks and extre me temperatures (e.g. direct sunlight in a car).
