Ports and operating elements Ports and operating elements This chapter presents the individual hardware components. You can obtain an overview of the ports and operating elements of the notebook. Please familiarise yourself with these components before you start to work with your notebook.
Ports and operating elements Switching on the notebook ► Slide the release button in direction of the arrow (1) and open the LCD screen (2). 2 1 ► Press the ON/OFF switch (1) to switch the notebook on. The power-on indicator is lit. If you have set a password, you must enter this when asked to do so in order to start the operating system. Further information can be found in the "Professional Notebook" operating manual, "Security functions" chapter.
Ports and operating elements Switching off the Notebook ► Close all programs and shut down your operating system (please see operating system manual). If the notebook cannot be shut down properly, press the Suspend/Resume key for approx. four seconds. The notebook switches off. However, any data which have not been saved may be lost. ► Close the LCD screen so that it locks into place.

Status indicators A 1 The meanings of the symbols are as follows: Radio components indicator Indicator lights up: One or more radio components are switched on. Ports and operating elements Key combinations The following description of key combinations refers to functions when using Microsoft Windows. Some of the following key combinations may not function in other operating systems and with some device drivers. Key combinations are entered as follows: ► Press and hold the first key in the combination. ► While holding the first key down, press the other key or keys in the combination.
Ports and operating elements Decrease the screen brightness This key combination decreases the brightness of the screen. Fn + F8brightness Screen Increase the screen brightness This key combination increases the brightness of the screen. Fn + F9brightness Screen Turn Wireless LAN, Bluetooth and UMTS on and off (optional) This key combination starts the LaunchManager. The radio components activated in the BIOS Setup can be turned on and off individually.
Ports and operating elements Country and keyboard settings If you want to change the country and keyboard settings, proceed as follows: Country and keyboard settings ► Click on Start – Control Panel. ► Double-click on Regional and Language Options. The current settings are displayed in the Regional Options tab. ► Select the country settings you want to use. ► Click on Apply. ► Click on the Details… button in the Languages tab. ► Click on Add… to add other keyboard layouts to the selection.
Ports and operating elements Easy Launch keys Easy Launch keys Your notebook is equipped with three Easy Launch keys. You can start the following applications or functions by pressing a single key. Radio components: Wireless LAN / Bluetooth / UMTS (optional) This Easy Launch key starts the LaunchManager. The radio components activated in the BIOS Setup can be turned on and off individually.
Ports and operating elements Battery Removing the battery ► ► ► ► Switch the notebook off and pull the power plug out of the mains socket. Close the LCD screen so that it locks into place. Disconnect all cables connected to the notebook. Turn your notebook over and place it on a stable, sturdy, flat surface. If necessary, lay an anti-slip cloth on this surface to prevent the notebook from being scratched. ► Push the battery lock in direction of the arrow (1).
Ports and operating elements SIM card Follow the instructions supplied by the provider of the SIM card. Inserting the SIM card ► ► ► ► ► Switch your notebook off. Close the LCD screen. Unplug the mains plug of the mains adapter from the mains socket. Disconnect all cables connected to the notebook. Turn your notebook over and place it on a stable, sturdy, flat surface. If necessary, lay an anti-slip cloth on this surface to prevent the notebook from being scratched.
Ports and operating elements ► Open the SIM card holder (1). ► Push the SIM card (2) into the holder (3). Make sure the contacts of the SIM card point towards the inside of the notebook. 3 2 1 ► Re-close the SIM card holder. ► Lock the SIM card holder by gently pushing the holder in the opposite direction to that shown by the arrow on the holder. You will feel the SIM card holder lock into place. ► Close the cover of the SIM card slot. ► Install the battery again (see "Battery: inserting", Page 12).

You will feel the SIM card holder unlocking. ► Open the SIM card holder (1). ► Remove the SIM card (2) from the holder (3). 2 3 2 1 ► Re-close the SIM card holder. ► Lock the SIM card holder by gently pushing the holder in the opposite direction to that shown by the arrow on the holder. You will feel the SIM card holder lock into place.
Ports and operating elements Radio components: Wireless LAN/ Bluetooth/UMTS Wireless LAN UMTS Bluetooth The installation of a wireless LAN module not approved by Fujitsu Siemens Computers GmbH voids the permits issued for this device (see chapter "Technical data", Page 19). Depending on the device variant, wireless LAN, Bluetooth and/or UMTS may be integrated in your notebook. On delivery, WLAN components are switched on, Bluetooth components off.

Unauthorised opening or incorrect repair may greatly endanger the user (electric shock, fire risk) and will invalidate your warranty.
