1.1 Topologies in SAS Interface
As shown in Figure 1.1, SAS drives have two connection patterns: point-to-
point connection and expander connection.

SAS supports the three protocols listed below. Among these protocols, SAS
drives support only SSP.
• Serial SCSI Protocol (SSP)
• Serial ATA Tunneled Protocol (STP)
• Serial Management Protocol (SMP)
