Priorto descentpathinterception,theSelectedAltitude mustbe setbelow thecurrent aircraft altitude
byatleast75feet.FortheightdirectortotransitionfromAltitudeHoldtoVerticalPathTrackingMode,
acknowledgment is required within five minutes of descent path interception by:
•PressingtheVNV Key
•AdjustingtheSelectedAltitude
If acknowledgment is not received within one minute of descent path interception, the white ‘VPTH’
annunciationstartstoash.Flashingcontinuesuntilacknowledgedorthedescentpathisintercepted.If
thedescentisnotconrmedbythetimeofinterception,VerticalPathTrackingModeremainsarmedandthe
descent is not captured.
Inconjunctionwiththe“TOD[topofdescent]within1minute”annunciationinthePFDNavigationStatus
Boxandthe“Verticaltrack”voicemessage,VNVindications(VNVTargetAltitude,verticaldeviation,and
verticalspeedrequired)appearonthePFDsinmagenta(Figure7-18).
