Introduction Introduction When you see text in blue, click the text with your mouse to follow a link for more information. You will see small arrows (>) in the text. They indicate that you should select a series of items. For example, if you see “select Where to? > My Locations” you should use the trackball to select Where to?, and then select My Locations. Getting Started Getting Started Completing Software Installation 1. After downloading Garmin Mobile™ for BlackBerry®, open the Garmin Mobile for BlackBerry application on your device. 2. To activate the software, enter the activation code. Pairing your Phone with an External GPS Receiver If you receive a message prompting you to test your Bluetooth® GPS receiver, you need to pair your phone with an external receiver using Bluetooth wireless technology to acquire satellites.
Getting Started Using the Main Page Where to?—find addresses, Points of Interest (restaurants, hotels, attractions), intersections, and a variety of other locations. See page 5–9 for information on finding destinations. View map—see a map of your current location. The map moves as you move to constantly show your current location. Traffic—view traffic events near your current location, or any location found using the Where to? menu.
Getting Started The position icon shows your position on the map. As you travel, your Garmin Mobile for BlackBerry guides you to your destination with voice prompts, arrows on the map, and directions at the top of the map. A checkered flag marks your destination. If you depart from the original route, your nüvi recalculates the route and provides new directions. Your current speed and estimated arrival time appear at the bottom of the page.
Getting Started To deactivate this setting, select (Menu >) Settings > Avoidances. Select Traffic. A list of nearby traffic events appears. To view details, select a traffic event from the list. To show a traffic event on the map, select an event and then select Map. Severity Color Code Green = Low severity; traffic is flowing normally. Yellow = Medium severity; traffic is a bit congested. Red = High severity; traffic is heavily congested or stopped.
Where to? Where to? Use the Where to? menu to find addresses, restaurants, attractions, and a variety of other locations up to 50 miles away from your current location. You can also find nearby flight times and fuel prices. To learn how to perform a standard search, see page 6. • Find Nearby—search for locations near the selected destination. • Save—save the location to My Locations. • View Map—view the location on a map. • View Traffic—view traffic near the location. See page 3.
Where to? 4. Enter all or part of the street name or number, and then select the street from the list. Note: If too many address results are found you will be prompted to enter a city or a zip code to refine you search. 5. If many addresses match your search criteria, select the correct address from the list. The information page for the address opens. Finding Points of Interest 1. From the main page, select Where to? > Food, Hotel…. 2. Select a category.
Where to? 1. Select Where to? > Local Search. 2. Select Spell Name. My Locations You can save places in My Locations so you can quickly find them and create routes to them. For more information on saving locations see page 13. Navigating to a Contact 3. Using the keypad, enter letters for what you want to search for. Select OK. Where to? Finding Recently Found Places Garmin Mobile for BlackBerry keeps track of the last 10 locations you have found so you can find them again quickly. From the main page, select Where to? > Recent Finds to view your recently found items. Finding Cities 1. From the main page, select Where to? > City. Finding Intersections 1. From the main page, select Where to? > Intersection. 2. Select a state/region (if necessary). 3.
Where to? Checking Flight Status The flight status feature displays airports with flight information in ascending order with the nearest major airport to your location listed first. 1. Select (Menu>) Where to? > Flight Status. 2. Select Airports Nearby to see a list of airports in ascending order with the nearest major airport to your location listed first. Select Choose City to search a different location. 3. Select an airport from the list.
Routing Routing After you select Start Navigating, Garmin Mobile for BlackBerry automatically creates a route to your destination. Viewing the Route Overview 1. Push the BlackBerry menu button. 2. Select Route Overview. The map appears with your route highlighted in magenta. Viewing the Upcoming Turns After you have created a route, you can view each of your upcoming turns on the map. 1. Push the BlackBerry menu button. 2. From the list, select View Turns.
Routing Finding Points of Interest while Navigating While navigating with Garmin Mobile you are able to search for POIs near your current location, active route, or destination. 1. From the Map page, push the BlackBerry menu button and select Main Menu. 2. Select Where to? and choose either Food, Hotel… or Local Search. 3. Select a destination to search near. Stopping Your Route With a route active, select the BlackBerry menu button. From the menu, select Stop Navigating.
Routing View and Edit Avoidances 1. Select (Menu >) Settings > Avoidances. 2. Select the avoidance you want to edit. To deactivate an avoidance without deleting it, select (Menu >) Settings > Avoidances, then uncheck the avoidance. Incoming Calls and Emails If you choose to answer an incoming phone call while navigating with Garmin Mobile, press the Answer key on your phone. You will automatically return to the map page after disconnecting your call.
My Locations My Locations Saving a Location 1. After you have found a place you want to save, select (Menu >) Save. 2. Select OK. The place is saved in Favorites. • Find Nearby––find locations near the saved location. • Remove––delete this location from My Locations. • Rename––rename the location. • View Map––view the location on the Map page. • View Traffic—see current traffic incidents near the location. • View Weather––view the current weather conditions for the saved location.
Mobile Manager Mobile Manager Mobile Manager is a free online service that makes it easy to locate addresses, plan trips, search POIs, and save your favorite locations. Creating a Mobile Manager Account 1. From your BlackBerry, select Where to? > My Locations > Mobile Manager > Create Account. 2. Choose a username. 3. From your desktop computer, login to Mobile Manager at http://mobile. .garmin.com using your temporary password. 4. Choose a new password.
Mobile Manager To save a location using your computer: 1. Log into your Mobile Manager account 2. Find a location by using the Address, Name, or Browse search options. 3. Select the location from the results list. The details of the location are displayed. 4. Change the name, if needed. 5. Select a category, and select Save. Navigating to a Saved Location 1. Select My Locations > Mobile Manager. 2. Select the category of the location you wish to find, and then select the location from the list.
Contacts Contacts Assigning a Location to a Contact 1. Select Where to? > Contact. 2. Select a contact in the list, then select Start Navigating. 3. If the contact does not have a GPS location set, Garmin Mobile for BlackBerry asks if you want to assign a GPS location. Select Yes. 4. Select a method to set a GPS location for this contact. Editing Contacts 1. Select (Menu >) Where to? > Contact. 2. Select a contact, and then select an option: • Start Navigating––create a route to the location.
Settings Settings The Settings menu provides access to many helpful features of the Garmin Mobile for BlackBerry application. Note: Some phone settings such as screen timeouts, automatic call answering with hands-free kits, and power management cannot be changed using the Garmin Mobile for BlackBerry application. Refer to the owner’s manual for your phone for information about changing these settings. Avoidances—check the types of roads or areas you want to avoid when creating routes.
Settings Route View—select a map perspective. • Track Up (2D)—display the map in 2D with your direction of travel at the top. • North Up (2D)—display the map in 2 dimensions (2D) with North at the top. • 3D—display the map in three dimensions (3D) with your direction of travel at the top. Volume—select the volume level. Locale—customize the GPS and select units of measure. Color Mode—adjust display settings, such as backlight, software text language, and color scheme.
Settings Network Connections (not available on all devices)—change this setting only if Garmin Mobile is having difficulties accessing the network. Select BIS to use the public BlackBerry Internet Service, or select BES to use a corporate BlackBerry Enterprise Server. About—contains information about Garmin Mobile for BlackBerry, including software version, unit ID, and copyright information.
