About myDashboard ➌ ➊ ➋ ➍ 6 Plug the other end of the vehicle power cable into a power outlet in your vehicle. 7 If necessary, connect the external antenna to the traffic receiver and secure it to the windshield using the suction cups. Use myDashboard to register your device, check for software and map updates, access product manuals and support, and more. Setting Up myDashboard 1 Connect the USB cable to the USB port on the device. ➋ ➊ 2 Connect the USB cable ➊ to the USB port ➋ on your computer.
Registering the Device 1 From myDashboard, click Register Now. 2 Follow on-screen instructions. About Sleep Mode Use sleep mode to conserve battery power when your device is not in use. Sleep mode uses very little power, and a battery charge lasts for weeks when your device is in sleep mode. Entering Sleep Mode Press the Power key.
Enabling Automatic Volume Your device can increase or decrease the volume automatically based on the level of background noise. 1 Select Volume > > Automatic Volume. 2 Select Enabled > Save. Status Bar Icons The status bar is located at the top of the main menu. The status bar icons display information about features on the device. Viewing GPS Satellite Signals For more information about GPS, go to www.garmin.com/aboutGPS. Hold . Transportation Modes Automobile mode Pedestrian mode Routing and navigation are calculated differently based on your transportation mode. For example, in Automobile mode, the estimated time of arrival is calculated using the speed limit of the roads on the route. Pedestrian mode calculates time of arrival based on walking speed. NOTE: Pedestrian routes do not include highways.
• Select to see a menu of options for the current screen. Using the On-screen Keyboard See Language and Keyboard Settings to change the keyboard layout (page 67). Select a character on the keyboard to enter a letter or number. • Select to add a space. • Hold to delete a character. • Select to erase the entire entry. • Select to select the keyboard language mode. • Select to enter special characters, such as punctuation marks. • Select to change character capitalization.

Finding a Location Using the Search Bar You can use the search bar to search for locations by entering a category, brand name, address, or city name. 1 Select Where To?. 2 Select the search bar ➊. ➊ 3 Enter a search term. Suggested search terms appear below the search bar as you type. 4 Select an option: • To search for a type of business, enter a category name, such as “movie theaters.” • To search for a business by name, enter all or part of the name.
Changing the Search Area By default, your device finds locations closest to your current location. You can find a location near another city or location. 1 Select Where To? > Searching Near. 2 Select an option. 3 If necessary, select a location. Reporting a Closed or Missing Location If your search results include an outdated or incorrect location, you can report the error to Garmin and remove the location from future searches. 1 Search for a location (page 8).
3 Select . 4 Select the stars to rate the point of interest. The star rating updates on your device. About Search Tools You can search for locations by using the onscreen keyboard or by entering the location’s address or coordinates. Finding Fuel Stations and Prices Before you can use this feature, you must subscribe to the Fuel Price service, and your device must be connected to a supported phone running Smartphone Link (page 36). This feature is not available in all areas.

Finding an Intersection Before you can find an intersection, you must add a shortcut to the intersection search tool (page 7). 1 Select Where To? > Categories > Intersections. 2 Select a state or province. Finding a Location by Browsing the Map Before you can find places included in the map data, such as restaurants, hospitals, and fuel stations, you must enable the map layer for places along the road (page 26). 1 Select View Map. 2 Drag and zoom the map to display the area to search. 3 If necessary, select , and select a category icon to view only a specific category of places. Location markers ( or a blue dot) appear on the map. 4 Select an option: • Select a location marker.
Saving a Home Location You can set your home location for the location you return to most often. 1 Select Where To? > > Set Home Location. 2 Select Enter My Address, Use My Current Location, or Recently Found. The location is saved as “Home” in the Saved menu (page 15). Going Home Select Where To? > Go Home. Editing Your Home Location Information 1 Select Where To? > Saved > Home. 2 Select > > Edit. 3 Enter your changes. 4 Select Done.

The address of the location appears at the bottom of the screen. 5 Select the location description. 6 Select Set Location. Saving Locations You can save locations so you can quickly find them and create routes to them. To assign categories to the Favorite, select Categories. • To save a photo with the Favorite, select Assign Photo (page 45). • To change the symbol used to mark the Favorite on a map, select Change Map Symbol. 7 Edit the information. 8 Select Done. • • • Assigning Categories to a Saved Location You can add custom categories to organize your saved locations.
6 Enter one or more categories that apply to the location, and select Done. 7 Select Share. This information is sent to Garmin when you connect to Smartphone Link or when you connect your device to myGarmin using your computer (page 36). Deleting a Saved Location NOTE: Deleted locations cannot be recovered. 1 Select Where To? > Saved. 2 Select > Delete Saved Places. 3 Select the box next to the saved locations to delete, and select Delete.
2 Enter a new wakeup phrase. The device indicates the strength of the wakeup phrase as you enter the phrase. 3 Select Done. Activating Voice Command Say your wakeup phrase. The Voice Command menu appears. Voice Command Tips • • • • 18 Speak in a normal voice directed at the device. Reduce background noise, such as voices or the radio, to increase the accuracy of the voice recognition. Speak commands as they appear on the screen. Respond to voice prompts from the device as needed.
A list of locations appears. Muting Instructions You can disable the voice prompts for Voice Command without muting the device. 1 Select Apps > Voice Command > . 2 Select Mute Instructions > Enabled. 4 Say the line number. Disabling Voice Command You can disable Voice Command, which prevents you from accidentally activating Voice Command while speaking. 1 Select Apps > Voice Command > . 2 Select Voice Command > Disabled. 5 Say Navigate. Adding a Point to a Route Before you can add a stop to a route, you must be navigating a route in Automobile mode. 1 While navigating a route, select to return to the main menu. 2 Select Where To?. 3 Search for the location (page 8) 4 Select Go!. 5 Select Add to Active Route.

Using the myTrends™ feature, your device predicts your destination based on your travel history, the day of the week, and the time of day.

2 Select Add Avoid Road. 3 Select the starting point of the section of road to avoid, and select Next. 4 Select the ending point of the road section, and select Next. 5 Select Done. Disabling a Custom Avoidance You can disable a custom avoidance without deleting it. 1 Select Settings > Navigation > Custom Avoidances. 2 Select an avoidance. 3 Select > Disable. Deleting Custom Avoidances 1 Select Settings > Navigation > Custom Avoidances.
4 If necessary, select a road to detour around. Navigating Off Road If you are not following roadways as you navigate, you can use Off Road mode. 1 Select Settings > Navigation. 2 Select Calculation Mode > Off Road > Save. The route will be calculated as a straight line to the location. Map Pages Customizing the Map Customizing the Map Layers You can customize which data appear on the map, such as icons for points of interest and road conditions. 26 1 From the map, select . 2 Select Map Layers.
Changing the Map Perspective 1 Select Settings > Map and Vehicle > Driving Map View. 2 Select an option: • Select Track Up to display the map in two dimensions (2-D), with your direction of travel at the top. • Select North Up to display the map in 2-D with North at the top. • Select 3-D to display the map in three dimensions. Customizing Map Buttons You can include up to three icons on the right side of the main map. 1 Select Settings > Map and Vehicle > Map Buttons. 2 Select an icon, and select OK.
Viewing Turns 2 Select Viewing a List of Turns Viewing the Next Turn When you are navigating a route, you can view all of the turns and maneuvers for your entire route and the distance between turns. 1 Select the text bar on the top of the map. 2 Select a turn. The details for the turn appear. If available, an image of the junction appears for junction on major roadways. Viewing the Entire Route on the Map 1 While navigating an automobile route, select the navigation bar at the top of the map.
you approach a junction in a route, the image of that junction appears briefly, if available. From the map, select to view the junction, if available. TIP: If you make frequent stops, leave the device turned on so it can accurately measure elapsed time during the trip. From the map, select > Trip Computer. Viewing Traffic Alerts Resetting Trip Information 1 From the map, select > Trip Computer. 2 Select > Reset Field(s).
• • Select Reset Max. Speed to reset the maximum speed. Select Reset Trip B to reset the odometer. Viewing Current Location Information You can use the Where Am I? page to view information about your current location. This feature is helpful if you need to tell emergency personnel your location. From the map, select > Where Am I?. Finding Nearby Services You can use the Where Am I? page to find nearby services, such as hospitals or police stations. 1 From the map, select > Where Am I?.
NOTE: You can change the types of public transit and limit the distance spent walking during a pedestrian route (page 64). About Map Icons • Using the Pedestrian Navigation Map See page 21 for more map functions. ➊ • ➋ • • • Select ➊ to switch between sections of the route. Select ➋ to view the route itinerary. nüvi 3500 Series Owner’s Manual • When you are navigating in Pedestrian mode, indicates your approximate position and your direction of travel on the map.
2 Select the transit type to include in your routes, and select Save. Hands-Free Phone Calls About Hands-Free Calling Using Bluetooth® wireless technology, your device can connect to your mobile phone to become a hands-free device. To determine whether your mobile phone with Bluetooth technology is compatible with your device, go to www.garmin.com/bluetooth. Your phone may not support all of the handsfree phone features your device provides.
6 Select your phone from the list, and select OK. 7 If necessary, on your phone, confirm that the device is allowed to connect. 8 If necessary, enter the device Bluetooth PIN (1234) into your phone. Disconnecting Your Phone 1 Select Settings > Bluetooth. 2 Select Phone > None > Save. Your phone is disconnected from your device but remains paired with your device. Tips After Pairing the Devices • • After the initial pairing, the two devices can connect automatically each time you turn them on.

Saving a Home Phone Number TIP: After you save a home number, you can edit the home number by editing “Home” in your list of saved locations (page 15). Select Phone > > Set Home Number, enter your phone number, and select Done. Calling Home Before you can call home using the Call Home button, you must enter a phone number for your home location. Saved locations and recently found locations are synchronized with your phone each time your device connects to Smartphone Link. Downloading Smartphone Link Smartphone Link supports phones running Android™ operating system version 2.1 or newer. Download Smartphone Link from the application market on your supported phone. See your phone owner's manual for information on downloading and installing applications.
Sending a Location from Your Phone to Your Device Smartphone Link is registered as a navigation application on your phone. 1 From your phone, select the button to start navigating to a location (see the owner's manual for your phone). 2 Select Smartphone Link from the application menu. The next time you connect your device to your phone, the location is transferred to the recently found items on your device.

Setting Up the Vehicle Profile The first time you use the ecoRoute features, you must enter vehicle information. 1 Select Apps > ecoRoute™. 2 Enter fuel and mileage information. Changing the Fuel Price 1 Select Apps > ecoRoute™ > At the Pump. 2 Enter the current price of fuel, and select Next. 3 Select Yes.
Viewing ecoChallenge Scores • View your current score in the ecoChallenge icon on the map. • Select to view detailed scores. About the ecoChallenge Score Current: Displays the score for your current driving activity. Overall: Displays an average of the speed, acceleration, and braking score. Speed: Displays your score for driving your vehicle at the optimal speed for conserving fuel (45–60 mph for most vehicles). Acceleration: Displays your score for smooth and gradual acceleration.
Viewing a Mileage Report You can view saved mileage reports on the device. TIP: You can access mileage reports in the Reports folder on the device drive/volume (page 62). 1 Select Apps > ecoRoute™ > Mileage Report. 2 Select a report. Resetting ecoRoute Information 1 Select Apps > ecoRoute™ > Vehicle Profile. 2 Select > Reset. Viewing Weather Near a Different City 1 Select Apps > Weather > Current Viewing Weather Alerts Viewing the Weather Radar Checking Road Conditions 1 Select Apps > Weather. 2 If necessary, select a city. 3 Select > Road Conditions. Location. 2 Select an option: • To view weather for a favorite city, select a city in the list. • To add a favorite city, select Add City, and enter a city name. You can view an animated, color-coded radar map of current weather conditions, as well as a weather icon on the map.
Loading Audiobooks onto Your Device Before you can load audiobooks onto your device, you must subscribe to Audible.com. Go to www.audible.com/garmin for more information. 1 Connect your device to your computer (page 2). 2 On your computer, log in to your Audible.com account. 3 Follow the instructions from Audible.com. Playing an Audiobook 1 Select Apps > Audible. 2 Select Browse. 3 Select Titles, Authors, Narrators, or Bookmarks. 4 Select a book.
Resuming Playback from a Bookmark 1 While playing an audiobook, select . 2 Select a bookmark. Renaming a Bookmark By default, the device names a bookmark using the time stamp of the bookmark. You can rename a bookmark. 1 While playing an audiobook, select > > Rename Bookmarks. 2 Select a bookmark. 3 Enter a name, and select Done. Deleting a Bookmark 1 While playing an audiobook, select > Delete Bookmarks. 2 Select a bookmark.

To change the transportation mode or route preference for a trip leg, select a leg, and select Transportation Mode. To view the trip on the map, select Map. Using the Media Player On some models, the media player can play MP3 music files. You can load music files into the Music folder on your device or onto a memory card. See page 62 to add files to your device. 1 Select Apps > Media Player. 2 Select an option: • To play a song, select . • To adjust the volume, select . • To toggle between songs, select and . • To shuffle songs, select . • To view the current playlist, select the title of the playing song. • To repeat the playlist, select .
Editing a Playlist You can edit the songs or the order of songs in a playlist, or you can delete a playlist. 1 Select Apps > Media Player > Browse > Playlists. 2 Select a playlist. 3 Select Edit Playlist. 4 Select Add Song, Remove Song, Reorder Songs, Rename Playlist, or Delete Playlist. 5 Follow the on-screen prompts. 3. Finding Parking Before you can use this feature, you must subscribe to the Dynamic Parking service, and your device must be connected to a supported phone running Smartphone Link (page 36). Setting Currency Conversion Rates Before you can use this feature, your device must be connected to a supported phone running Smartphone Link (page 36). This feature is not available in all areas. You can update the currency conversion rates for the unit convertor. 1 Select Apps > Unit Converter. 2 Select the button next to Convert. 3 Select Currency, and select Save. 4 If necessary, select a currency button, select a different currency, and select Save.

Changing Your Nickname The first time you power on your device, you are prompted to enter the nickname that identifies you when you use Tracker. 1 Select Apps > Tracker > > Profile. 2 Beside Nickname, select Edit. 3 Enter a nickname, and select Done. Viewing Your Tracker ID Your Tracker ID identifies your device uniquely to other Tracker users. Other users can use your Tracker ID to invite you as a follower. Select Apps > Tracker > > Profile.
Inviting a Follower You can invite another person to follow your location for a specified period of time. 1 Select Apps > Tracker > Follow Me. 2 Select an option: • Select the check box next to each recipient. • Select Enter Email or Tracker ID, and enter the recipient email address or Tracker ID (page 52). NOTE: The Tracker ID is case-sensitive. Select Next. 3 4 Select an option: • Select a message. • Select Enter Message, and enter a customized message.

NOTE: In some areas, traffic information may be received from FM radio stations using HD Radio™ technology. Traffic information may not be available in all areas or countries.
Receiving Traffic Data Using a Traffic Receiver Traffic Receiver ➊ notices Heated (metallized) windshields could degrade the performance of the traffic receiver. When the receiver is within a traffic coverage area, your device will begin displaying traffic information. The traffic receiver and the device may need to be in data range of an FM station transmitting traffic information. 1 Connect the traffic receiver to an external power source. 2 Connect the traffic receiver to the device.
Receiving Traffic Data Using Smartphone Link You can purchase a traffic subscription to receive traffic data using Smartphone Link. When your device is connected to Smartphone Link and within a traffic coverage area, your device will begin displaying traffic information. Traffic data is not available in all areas. 1 From your phone, purchase a traffic subscription from Garmin Live Services (page 38). 2 Connect your device to Smartphone LInk (page 36).
Traffic on Your Route 3 Select an event. When calculating your route, the device examines the current traffic and automatically optimizes the route for the shortest time. If a severe traffic delay occurs on your route while you are navigating, your device automatically recalculates the route. The traffic icon changes color to indicate the severity of traffic conditions on your route or on the road you are currently traveling.
Traffic in Your Area Searching for Traffic Delays 1 From the map, select . 2 Select Traffic Conditions > . 3 Select an item in the list. 4 If there is more than one delay, use the arrows to view additional delays. Viewing a Traffic Incident on the Map 1 From the map, select . 2 Select Traffic Conditions. 3 Select a traffic icon. Understanding Traffic Data The traffic legend explains the icons and colors used on the traffic map. 1 From the map, select . 2 Select Traffic Legend.
Viewing a Traffic Camera Before you can view a traffic camera, you must save a traffic camera. 1 Select Apps > myCameras. 2 Select a camera. Traffic Subscriptions Subscription Activation You do not need to activate the subscription included with your FM traffic receiver. The subscription activates automatically after your device acquires satellite signals while receiving traffic signals from the pay service provider. 60 Lifetime Subscriptions Some models include subscriptions to lifetime features.
2 Select an option: • 3 4 5 6 7 For non-North American units, select Subscriptions > . • For North American units, select . Write down the FM traffic receiver unit ID. Go to www.garmin.com/fmtraffic to purchase a subscription and get a 25-character code. The traffic subscription code cannot be reused. You must obtain a new code each time you renew your service. If you own multiple FM traffic receivers, you must obtain a new code for each receiver. Select Next on the device. Enter the code. Select Done.
About Memory Cards You can purchase memory cards from an electronics supplier, or purchase pre-loaded Garmin mapping software (www.garmin.com /trip_planning). In addition to map and data storage, the memory card can be used to store files such as maps, images, geocaches, routes, waypoints, and custom POIs. Installing a Memory Card The device supports microSD™ and microSDHC memory cards. 1 Insert a memory card into the slot on the device. 2 Press it in until it clicks.

Deleting Files NOTICE If you do not know the purpose of a file, do not delete it. Faster Time: Calculates routes that are faster to drive but can be longer in distance. Shorter Distance: Calculates routes that are shorter in distance but can take more time to drive. Less Fuel: Calculates routes that could use less fuel than other routes. Off Road: Calculates a direct line from your location to your destination. Display Settings Select Settings > Display.

NOTE: You need this information when you update the system software or purchase additional map data (page 72).

About nüMaps Lifetime Some models include subscriptions nüMaps Lifetime, which provides quarterly map updates for the life of your device. You can purchase a new region or extend an existing subscription at any time. Each region that you purchase has an expiration date. Custom Points of Interest Custom POIs are customized points on the map. They can contain alerts that let you know if you are near a designated point or if you are traveling faster than a specified speed. The device automatically turns on and goes into USB mass storage mode. 4 Verify your device is connected to a USB port and not a USB hub.
