INSTALLING THE WATER LINE

When connecting your refrigerator to a GE Reverse
Osmosis Wa t er Syst em , t h e o nl y ap pr oved i nst alla t io n
is with a GE RVKit. For other reverse osmosis water
systems, follow the manufacturers recommendations.
If the water supply to the refrigerator is from a
Re v e r s e Os m o s i s W a t e r Fi l t r a t i o n Sys t em (RO)
AND the refrigerator also has a water filt er,
use the refrigerator’s filter bypass plug. Using
the refrigerators water filtration cartridge in
conjunction with an RO water filter can result
in hollow ice cubes. Some models do not come
equipped with the filter bypass plug. To obtain a
free bypass plug, call 800-GECARES. In Canada call
800.561.3344.

these instructions carefully to minimize the risk of
expensive water damage.
Water hammer (water banging in the pipes) in
house plumbing can cause damage to refrigerator
parts and lead to water leakage or flooding. Call a
qualified plumber to correct water hammer before
installing the water supply line to the refrigerator.

up the water line to the hot water line.
Do not install the ice maker tubing in areas where
temperatures fall below freezing.
When using any electrical device (such as a power
drill) during installation, be sure the device is double
insulated or grounded in a manner to prevent the
hazard of electric shock, or is battery powered.
All installat ions must be in accordance with local
plumbing code requirements.
BEFORE YOU BEGIN
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
Copper or GE SmartConnect
Refrigerator Tubing
kit, 1/4 outer diameter to connect
the refrigerator to the water supply. If using
copper, be sure both ends of the tubing are
cut square.

measure the distance from the water valve
on the back of the refrigerator to the water supply
pipe. Be sure there is sufficient extra tubing to allow
the refrigerator to move out from the wall after
installation.
