GUIDE FORM SPECIFICATIONS
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The traditional decorative post top luminaire designated
_______ (identify) shall be a GE Americana luminaire, order-
ing number _______ specify AM8X, AM9X, AM8F or AM9F, plus
ordering number logic from catalog), or approved equal, to
operate one _______ (specify [50, 70, 100 or 150] watt high
pressure sodium [HPS] or [ 70, 100 or 175] watt metal halide
lamp from a nominal _______ (specify 120, 208, 220, 240, 277
or 347 volt, 60 Hz or 220, 230 or 240 volt, 50 Hz) power source
and shall be capable of starting and operating the specified
lamp within the limits specified by the lamp manufacturer. The
luminaire shall contain a completely prewired integral ballast
and a polycarbonate resin acorn globe that shall provide an IES
Distribution Type _______ (specify from Photometric Selection
Guide in catalog). Standard construction is IP54. The luminaire
shall be UL/cUL Listed SUITABLE FOR WET LOCATIONS.

MECHANICAL CONSTRUCTION
The luminaire shall include a clear polycarbonate acorn globe
impact resistant at -40
o
C, socket, ballast, and ornamental
black painted textured heavy gauge cast aluminum fitter to
fit a 3-½-inch (89 mm) maximum diameter pole. An internal
photoelectric control receptacle is available. The luminaire with
photoelectric receptacle shall have a hinged housing secured
by a stainless steel spring latch, with internal twist-lock photo-
electric receptacle.
The luminaire shall include an aluminum canister containing
integral ballast capacitor and ignitor.
The optical assembly shall have a one-piece, impact resistant,
glare-reduced, UV stabilized for color clarity, formed polycar-
bonate acorn globe; and shall contain a mogul base E39 sock-
et with superior lamp gripping. The socket shall have added
insulation, giving it the ability to handle the higher pulse ratings
of newer HID systems. The IES Distribution choices include an
integral glass refractor that shall mount to the ballast cover
without the use of tools.

BALLAST OPERATION
The luminaire shall have a _______ (specify) ballast*. The plug-
in type ignitor (for HPS only) and ballast shall be prewired to the
lamp socket requiring connection of power supply leads only.
The ballast shall be in full compliance with lamp-ballast speci-
fications available to the fixture manufacturer from the lamp
manufacturers at the time of fixture manufacture.
The ballast shall reliably start and operate the lamp in ambi-
ent temperatures down to -20
°
F for mercury or metal halide or
-40
°
F for HPS.
