Reciprocating compressors Reciprocating compressors move gasses by volumetrically compressing them to higher pressures. They convert rotational crankshaft motion into pumping piston motion, while valves outside the compression chamber allow flow in and out, based on pressure differentials. The number of cylinders range from 1 to 10 with 41,000 kW maximum power. SHMB (fully balanced version), which is particularly well suited to offshore applications, is also available.
