GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The complete luminaire designated ________ (identify) shall be
a GE MINI.GARD
TM
luminaire, ordering number_______ (specify
MGH or MGHU, plus ordering number logic from catalog),
UL844 Listed for use in Class I, Division 2, Groups A, B, C and D;
Class II, Division 1, Groups E, F and G; Class II, Division 2, Group
G; Class III, Divisions 1 and 2; and Simultaneous Presence: Class
I, Division 2 and Class II, Divisions 1 and 2 locations, or ap-
proved equal, to operate ________ (specify one [50, 70, 100 or
150(55V)] watt high pressure sodium [HPS] or [70, 100 or 175]
watt metal halide or [13 or 26] watt or two 26-watt fluorescent)
lamp(s) from a nominal ________ (specify 120, 208, 240, 277, or
480) volt, 60 Hertz power source and shall be capable of start-
ing and operating the specified lamp within the limits specified
by the lamp manufacturer. The luminaire shall contain a com-
pletely prewired integral ballast and optical assembly suitable
for continuous service, either indoors or outdoors, in an ambi-
ent temperature of _______ (40, 55 or 65) degrees C. Standard
construction is IP65.
The luminaire shall have a clearly visible NEMA lamp identifica-
tion decal and a nameplate including pertinent luminaire rating
data. Labeling shall be in accordance with UL and NEMA List-
ings.
MECHANICAL CONSTRUCTION
For ease of installation and to facilitate maintenance and re-
placement, the MGA luminaire shall be supplied as components
- ballast, mounting, optical and accessories. A lamp shall be
included with fluorescent units, but shall not be installed. The
MGHU unit whall be shipped all in one carton with lamp and
optical installed (HPS and metal halide only).
The luminaire shall include a die-cast low copper aluminum
housing with electro-epoxidized gray paint finish inside and
outside. All external hardware shall be stainless steel. There
shall be provision for a ballast safety chain.
The luminaire shall be ________ (specify ceiling, flexible pen-
dant, angle stanchion, pendant, straight stanchion or wall)
mounted. A stainless steel closure screw in the ballast housing
shall mate with a polymer coated insert in the mounting com-
ponent .
BALLAST OPERATION
The luminaire shall contain a standard ________ (specify Au-
toreg; HPF Reactor or Lag; or NPF Reactor or Lag) type ballast*
in full compliance with lamp-ballast specifications available to
the fixture manufacturer from the lamp
manufacturers at the time of fixture manufacture.
The ballast shall reliably start and operate the lamp in
ambient temperatures down to - 20°F for metal halide, - 40°F
for HPS and - 32°F for fluorescent.
The luminaire and ballast shall be from the same
manufacturer.
The optical assembly shall include a ________ (specify small
glass globe with or without Maxi-Lux
®
guard, refractor glass
with or without Maxi-Lux
®
guard with a Type II or Type V dis-
tribution for HPS or metal halide or large glass globe with or
without Maxi-Lux
®
guard for fluorescent). The optical assembly
shall also include as an accessory ________ (specify no reflec-
tor or dome, deep dome or angle dome reflector).
External reflectors shall be aluminum with a chemically bonded
lightweight non-breakable ALGLAS
®
finish on inside and outside
surfaces for corrosion resistance.
The die cast aluminum Maxi-Lux guard shall be of inverted
design for improved photometric performance.
The optical assembly shall be charcoal filtered.
