Using the microwave oven controls. Throughout this manual, features and appearance may vary from your model. Microwave Oven Control Features and Settings Display Time Defrost Displays the time during cooking functions, the power level being used, the Auto Codes, the Auto Defrost food weights, the cooking mode and instructions. Use Time Defrost to defrost foods other than meat, poultry and fish. NOTE: The time on the microwave display is shown in minutes and seconds (1:30 is one minute, 30 seconds).
GEAppliances.com Microwave Oven Control Features and Settings Sound Level Reminder The beeper sound level can be adjusted. Press the Sound Level pad. Choose 0–3 for mute to loud. The Reminder feature can be used like an alarm clock, and it can be used at any time, even when the oven is operating. The reminder can be set up to 24 hours later. Start/Pause After all selections are made, press this pad to start the oven. The Start/Pause pad must be pressed to turn on any function.
Changing the microwave power level. The power level may be entered or changed immediately after entering the time for Time Cook, Time Defrost or Express Cook. The power level may also be changed during time countdown. To change the power level… Press the Time Cook pad. Enter cooking time. Press the Power Level pad. Select desired power level 1–10. Press the Start/Pause pad. Variable power levels add flexibility to microwave cooking.
Using the timed microwave features. GEAppliances.com Time Cook I Allows you to microwave for any time up to 99 minutes and 99 seconds. Power level 10 (High) is automatically set, but you may change it for more flexibility. Press the Time Cook pad. Press the Start/Pause pad. You may open the door during Time Cook to check the food. Close the door and press the Start/Pause pad to resume cooking. Enter cooking time. For example, press 1, 5, 0 and 0 for 15 minutes.

See the Defrosting Guide for suggested times. (Auto Defrost explained in the Using the microwave auto feature section.) Press the Time Defrost pad. Enter defrosting time. Press the Start/Pause pad. Turn food over when the oven signals. At one half of selected defrosting time, the oven signals TURN.
Using the microwave sensor cooking features. The Sensor Features detect the increasing humidity released during cooking. The oven automatically adjusts the cooking time to various types and amounts of food. Sensor Cooking The proper containers and covers are essential for best sensor cooking. GEAppliances.com Beverage Press the Beverage pad to heat a cup of coffee or other beverage. Drinks heated with the Beverage feature may be very hot. Remove the container with care. Reheat The Reheat feature reheats single servings of previously cooked foods or a plate of leftovers. Place covered food in the oven. Press the Reheat pad. The oven starts immediately. (less time) (more time) The oven signals when steam is sensed and the time remaining begins counting down.
Using the microwave sensor cooking features. To reduce time by 10%: Press the 1 pad after the feature pad. To add 10% to cooking time: Press the 9 pad after the feature pad. Potato The Potato feature cooks 1/2–2 lbs. of potatoes. (less time) (more time) Pierce skin with fork and place potatoes on the turntable. If cooking three or more potatoes, arrange in a star pattern. Press the Potato pad. The oven starts immediately. The oven signals when steam is sensed and the time remaining begins counting down.
Using the microwave auto feature. GEAppliances.com Auto Defrost Use Auto Defrost for meat, poultry and fish up to 6 pounds. Use Time Defrost for most other frozen foods. Auto Defrost automatically sets the defrosting times and power levels to give even defrosting results for meats, poultry and fish. Press the Auto Defrost pad. Using the Conversion Guide at right, enter food weight. For example, press pads 1 and 2 for 1.2 pounds (1 pound, 3 ounces). Press Start/Pause.
Using the other microwave features. Cooking Complete Reminder: To remind you that you have food in the oven, the oven will display FOOD IS READY and beep once a minute until you either open the oven door or press the Clear/Off pad. Clock Press to enter the time of day or to check the time of day while microwaving. Press the Clock pad. Enter time of day. Press the Start/Pause pad or the Clock pad. Delay Start Delay Start allows you to set the microwave to delay cooking up to 24 hours.
GEAppliances.com Child Lockout You may lock the control panel to prevent the microwave from being accidentally started or used by children. When the control panel is locked, an L will be displayed to the extreme right. To lock or unlock the controls, press and hold the Clear/Off pad for about 3 seconds. Sound On/Off To turn the beeper sound on or off, press and hold the 8 pad for about 3 seconds. Sound Level The beeper sound level can be adjusted. Press the Sound Level pad. Choose 0–3 for mute to loud.

Arcing is caused by: the temperature probe staying in the oven but not inserted in the food. metal or foil touching the side of the oven. foil that is not molded to food (upturned edges act like antennas). metal such as twist-ties, poultry pins, gold-rimmed dishes. recycled paper towels containing small metal pieces.

Lower Oven Control, Clock and Timer Features and Settings Display Shows the time of day, oven temperature, whether the oven is in the bake, broil or self-cleaning mode and the times set for the timer or automatic oven operations.
Using the lower oven. Before you begin… CAUTION: To avoid possible burns, place the racks in the desired position before you turn the oven on. The racks are designed so that when placed correctly in the oven on the supports, they will stop before coming completely out, and will not tilt. CAUTION: Never place cooking utensils, pizza stone, or any other items on the oven floor. There is a heating element beneath the oven floor.
GEAppliances.com Aluminum Foil and Oven Liners CAUTION: Do not use any type of foil or oven liner to cover the oven bottom. These items can trap heat or melt, resulting in damage to the product and risk of shock, smoke or fire. Damage from improper use of these items is not covered by the product warranty. Foil may be used to catch spills by placing a sheet on a lower rack, several inches below the food. Do not use more foil than necessary and never entirely cover an oven rack with aluminum foil.
Using the lower oven clock and timer. To Set the Clock Make sure the clock is set to the correct time of day. The clock must be set to the correct time of day for the automatic oven timing functions to work properly. The time of day cannot be changed during a timed baking or self-cleaning cycle. Press the Clock pad. Press the number pads. Press the Start pad until the time of day shows in the display. To Set the Timer Press the Kitchen Timer On/Off pad. The timer is a minute timer only.
Using the lower oven timed baking and roasting features. Using the lower oven probe. For many foods, especially roasts and poultry, internal food temperature is the best test for doneness. The temperature probe takes the guesswork out of roasting by cooking foods to the exact doneness you want. CAUTION: To prevent burns, do not unplug the probe from the oven outlet until the oven has cooled. Plug Cable Probe NOTE: The probe is for use in the lower oven only. Use of probes other than the one provided with this product may result in damage to the probe.
Using the lower convection oven. Convection Fan In a convection oven, a fan circulates hot air over, under and around the food. This circulating hot air is evenly distributed throughout the oven cavity. As a result, foods DUH HYHQO\ FRRNHG DQG EURZQHG³RIWHQ LQ OHVV time with convection heat. GEAppliances.com NOTE: The convection fan will cycle on and off while cooking to best distribute hot air in the oven. The convection oven fan shuts off when the oven door is opened.
Using the lower convection oven. Grid Broiler pan Convection Roast Good for large tender cuts of meat, uncovered. The convection fan circulates the heated air evenly over and around the food. Meat and poultry are browned on all sides as if they were cooked on a rotisserie. Heated air will be circulated over, under and around the food being roasted. The heated air seals in juices quickly for a moist and tender product while, at the same time, creating a rich golden brown exterior.
GEAppliances.com How to Set the Oven for Convection Roasting when Using the Probe CAUTION: To prevent burns, For best results when roasting large turkeys and roasts, we recommend using the probe included in the convection oven. do not unplug the probe from the oven outlet until the oven has cooled. Do not store the probe in the cooking center. When the oven starts to heat, the word LO will be in the display.
Using the lower oven timed features for convection cooking. You will hear a fan while cooking with these features. The fan will stop when the door is opened, but the heat will not turn off. Using the warming and proofing features. GEAppliances.com How to Set the Lower Oven For Warming The Warm feature keeps cooked foods hot. This feature is not designed to reheat cold food. To use the Warm feature, press the Warm/ Proof pad once and then the Start pad. To use the Warm feature after Timed Baking or Roasting, follow these steps: Press the mode of cooking that you want to use (Bake, Convection Bake Multi, Convection Bake 1 Rack or Convection Roast).

If you still think your new oven is too hot or too cold, you can adjust the thermostat yourself. Do not use thermometers, such as those found in grocery stores, to check the temperature setting of your oven. These thermometers may vary 20–40 degrees.
Using the self-cleaning lower oven. GEAppliances.com The oven door must be closed and all controls must be set correctly for the cycle to work properly. Before a Clean Cycle We recommend venting your kitchen with an open window or using a ventilation fan or hood during the first self-clean cycle. Remove any broiler pan, broiler grid, probe, all cookware and any foil from the oven. WARNING FIRE HAZARD: Wipe up heavy soil on the oven bottom.
Using the self-cleaning lower oven. The oven door must be closed and all controls must be set correctly for the cycle to work properly. How to Delay the Start of Cleaning Press the Self Clean pad for a 4-hour clean time. If a time other than 5 hours is needed, use the number pads and enter the desired clean time. You can change the clean time to any time between 3 hours and 5 hours, depending on how dirty your oven is. A 3-hour self-clean time is recommended for use when cleaning small, contained spills.
Special features of your lower oven control. GEAppliances.com Your new touch pad control has additional features that you may choose to use. The following are the features and how you may activate them. The special feature modes can only be activated while the display is showing the time of day. They remain in the control’s memory until the steps are repeated. When the display shows your choice, press the Start pad. The special features will remain in memory after a power failure.
Special features of your lower oven control. Tones at the End of a Timed Cycle + At the end of a timed cycle, 3 short beeps will sound followed by one beep every 6 seconds until the Clear/Off pad is pressed. This continuous 6-second beep may be canceled. To cancel the 6-second beep: Press the Bake and Broil Hi/Lo pads at the same time for 3 seconds until the display shows SF. Press the Kitchen Timer On/Off pad. The display shows CON BEEP (continuous beep). Press the Kitchen Timer On/Off pad again.

Using the Sabbath Feature. Press and hold both the Bake and Broil Hi/Lo pads, at the same time, until the display shows SF. Tap the Delay Start pad until 12 shdn or no shdn appears in the display.
Care and cleaning of the cooking center. GEAppliances.com WARNING: Be sure electrical power is off and all surfaces are cool before cleaning any part of the cooking center. How to Remove Packaging Tape To assure no damage is done to the finish of the product, the safest way to remove the adhesive left from packaging tape on new appliances is an application of a household liquid dishwashing detergent, mineral oil or cooking oil. Apply with a soft cloth and allow to soak.
Care and cleaning of the cooking center. Lift-Off Oven Door The door is very heavy. Be careful when removing and lifting the door. Do not lift the door by the handle. Slot To remove the door: Fully open the door. Pull the hinge locks down toward the door frame, to the unlocked position. A tool, such as a small flat-blade screwdriver, may be required.
